Author notes in the end of the chapter
Kyoko mulled over her computer for the 30th time this hour. Her shoulders stiff with tension.
She just couldn't, everything about this made no sense.
The problem started this morning when that damned police officer appeared in the door of her psychology class introducing this stupid program like no big deal.
'We thought it would be a good idea that teenagers nowadays and especially this soon to be adults to be the firsts on trying our new program of understanding more on whats going on the head of prisoners and even helping us while doing this.
I only need 4 students for this. 2 girls and 2 boys'
Kyoko tried so hard to be unnoticed by her teachers eyes. Another burden is the last thing she needed. Especially now, in her last year when her mind is more focused on the path she wants to follows than writing a letter to a prisoner.
If she would known what was going on her teachers mind kyoko wouldnt even tired herself by crouching so hard on her table trying to hide behind her classmates back.
The moment her teacher met her eyes they light up with something that terrified her and she was done for when she saw a smile forming on her lips as she gave her name first to the officer.
She felt like a mice. A lab mice ready to be experimented, tortured and dead. Kyoko knew everything her teacher was doing was for the best of her but she really didnt want this. Her psychology teacher was the only person in her 1 year being an echanged student in America she could talk to without her palms sweating or a knot forming on her throat.
She tried. Her teacher tired. But it just didn't work. Kyoko just couldn't talk or become close to this people. Its not like she was treated as an exotic animal here neither was she bullied in fact it was the opposite everyone around her was nice and tried to become close to her something that might be a little rare in Japan when usually people most of the time minded their business but she just couldnt.
Everytime someone tried to talk to her she felt her throat close itself and cold sweat breaking out and that only lead to giving people greetings as polite as she could and just being quiet in her desk. That was her solution for the whole year.
This is entirely on her. If it wasnt for her. Her so low self esteem. If it wasnt for his damned words maybe she would have had fun here. Maybe she would enjoy this once in a lifetime opportunity.
Her exchanged family were some of the nicest people she knew, this family was made by Julian and Sophie and their two years old twins Sasha and Maria. They all tried to shower her in the family affection and moments she never had and was denied of but it was so hard for her and she hated it.
She hated the big Impact her mom has in her life and her little to no concern in Kyoko to actually enjoy herself. She hated the amount of times she hurted and still hurts herself to exceed perfection and only than being satisfied with anything. She also hated hated so much herself for almost ruining her future for a man. For such a selfish arrogant narcissistic man as Shotaro Fuwa.
Shotaro Fuwa or Sho Fuwa like he now likes to be called was her trigger for everything to turn like this. She loved the boy so much so so much until she reached the age of 16. He was her prince. He was her knight in shining armor. He was the only person she loved so much and was not afraid to show her affection to. He as her knight was supposed to save her and they could live their happy ever after in a castle, she wouldn't care even if her dream catle was the Fuwa ryokan.
Well the boy instead of being the knight to save her, was the evil dragon that kept the princess locked in the tower.
He always choose to ignore her affection. Always turning a blind eyes to it especially as the years went on.
The boy hated the idea of being tied down and to him kyoko was his worst nightmare. He tried everything to break every ounce of her affection for him. From ignoring to reminding her of every flaw she had. From being next her to live up on his title as playboy and hoping on every pretty girl he found as a bee trying every flower.
Even if his actions broke the girls heart to bits as the years went on, her affection for him was so big that she still chose to follow him in Tokyo to achive his dream.
Thats where everything went sour.
Kyoko thought that maybe this would bring them closer. That she could finally have a place in Sho's heart and try to make it bigger. They actually got close at the beginning, maybe when watching the tv shows Sho loved so much together, Kyoko buying his favorite pudding or watching him coming up with new songs even if that was at the cost of Kyoko burning and overworking herself to the point she wouldn't feel her legs anymore.
Only his debut was needed for him to throw the girl he grew up with like a dirty old cloth finally breaking the poor girls heart and self esteem. Destroying every believe she had in love and that someone might love her.
It was difficult to get things back how they were. With the amount of cash she had saved from her 2 jobs to pay the rent of the apartment she decided to move back to Kyoto.
She thanked the kind couple of Darumaya for letting her work the few months she was there. The girl had grown on them alot even for the short amount of time and that was evident in the sad look on their faces, disappointment more on Taisho's side.
Kyoko made it back in the Fuwa ryokan apologizing and begging for them to take her back. In the end the Fuwa's forgave the girl knowing that most of the fault relied on their son but their disappointment on her was still evident.
Besides working really hard almost to perfection to make it up to the Fuwa's Kyoko felt like a broken shell in the first few months. Holding up anger and sadness.
Only later did she realize that she was really living up to Sho's expectations.
Being able to do nothing without him and that he was her will on most stuff.
So she decided. She started school again and worked so much trying to ace every one of her subjects and exams and that was also the first time the young girl asked the Fuwa's for something.
She wanted them to let her join the exchanged program in America. The Fuwa's were conflicted in the beginning on what to do since knowing how much of a help Kyoko is in the ryokan and how loved she is by the guest by than decided to do what was best for her. First they needed to contact Saena thought since she still was Kyokos legal guardian and most of all mother.
Her words still left a prickly feel on her skin. Her saying that she didn't care what "that girl" did and to not concern her anymore with minor matters.
Kyoko felt like crying but what did she expect more. Did she want a congratulation for achieving this or even a where has she been this whole time.
Kyoko had given up on trying to please Saena. This was for her own self now.
Before Kyoko went to America she wanted to be a new person and leave this dark memories here in Japan where they belong.
So she decided to cutt and dye her hair matching it with the color of her eyes. The actions didn't go unnoticed and disapproved by the Fuwa's but what could they do, it was her life in the end.
She left. She left everything behind and there wasn't anything holding her back anymore. She thanked the Fuwa's for everything they have done for her and left. Only holding in the back of her mind the memory of her little fairy prince that she missed so much….
Kyoko sighed at the uncalled memory. She looked at her clock on the wall and decided it was too late to hurt her head over this so she closed her computer and decided to concern herself about this tomorrow
