Chapter 1: Rebirth
Kischur Zelretch Schweinorg, one of 5 true magic users in the entire world also known as the Kaleidoscope, with the ability to oversee and govern parallel realities was sitting in his office in the Clocktower, the headquarters of the Magus Association in London England, and he had a concerned look on his face, for good reason.
For the past year all the worlds mana had begun to act erratically and it affected every magus's ability to perform their magecraft properly leading to various accidents that pushed as far as deadly.
There have been uproars in the moonlight world to have this problem figured out, and that is exactly what he was attempting to do in the form of the Chaldea Security Organization as well as aid from some of his fellow true magic colleagues.
Zelretch was eventually snapped out of his thoughts when he heard a chipper girl's voice.
"You're thinking to hard you old vampire, surely there is a lead on what is causing the disturbance." Spoke a pink floating wand with a star tip at the end.
"Has the anomaly affected your abilities at all Ruby?" The wizard marshal asked.
"Not from what I can tell, I can still fly and absorb mana from multiple timelines, though I have been getting a strange feeling from the same source." Kaleidostick Ruby responded.
"Is that so." Zelretch said.
They were interrupted by a door opening up as a tired looking man with long black hair and a serious expression walked in.
"Waver, what news do you bring?" The wizard marshal asks.
"Sir please call me Lord El Melloi II, and I bring a report from Chaldea."
Lord El Melloi II gave Zelretch the report documents and the old vampire looked them over.
"This is very grave indeed, the world's mana is pooling into the upper atmosphere and condensing into a sphere, what could be causing this?"
"We don't know, but we believe it to be some outside force, even more alarming is that it is so powerful that Gaia cannot counteract it, nor can it see the source of the problem to call the counterforce to fight it."
Multiple thoughts crossed Zelretch's mind on any potential threats. Was it an alien god of sorts, or maybe the Umbral star? He sighed as he mulled over his options and found no clear answer.
Just then he felt a jolt in his mana and he quickly made a portal and ran through before it destabilized.
"Sir wait!!" Lord El Melloi called out but it was to late.
Stepping out of the portal Zelretch found himself in one of his personal chamber spaces which contained multiple glowing orbs depicting multiple parallel realities and lostbelts, each one containing the same problem of dense mana spheres.
"What in the name of Akasha, this is worse than expected."
Within moments he saw all the mana spheres erupt in a powerful omnidirectional wave at once.
"Well, things might get very interesting from here on out." Zelretch commented, but he was worried.
The mana eruptions were so powerful they ripped through space and time itself and even punched its way into the metaphysical, and it didn't stop there.
The Reverse Side of the World, a place cut off from the reality where all versions of Earth reside, where gods and phantasmal beasts flocked to when the Age of Gods had ended. Within that realm a goddess slept, or more precisely a beast, only to be awakened by the sound of a rip in fabric of space time, a massive portal opened up and generated a powerful suction as it attempted to swallow the beast like goddess whole, but for as powerful as she is she was no match and was eventually enveloped.
As the goddess was sent hurtling through the distortion in reality she felt her form shift as she felt herself getting smaller and smaller, her head flashing through all sorts of memories, especially of a facet of herself, Tamamo no Mae, eventually the journey ended with a flash of bright white light.
"M-mikooon, what?"
Darkness, that was the only thing Tamamo saw, where was she?
She began to emit sunlight from her body to see if she can illuminate her surroundings and find out where she is but to her dismay it didn't work.
"Hello!!" She called out. Then she immediately noticed the tone of her voice, her voice sounded…younger?
Before she could contemplate further she began to feel a heavy dread wash over her, wherever she was it quickly dawned on her that she shouldn't be here, and she began panicking.
"Hello!! Anybody!!"
She began to curl up as she continued to float in the seemingly endless dark space.
"Someone, please…help me, I don't want to be alone here…please." She silently cried. Soon enough her prayer would be answered as a light began to envelope her.
Opening her eyes and looking around she found herself in a forest of sorts, she uncurled herself from a sitting position and stood up, for some reason she felt…shorter.
She began to feel herself over and to her shock it seemed she was reduced to a child's body, she looked exactly like she had when she was first found by her human parents in Japan! Further proof showed when she felt her chest, no longer was she the buxom foxy woman she was.
"WHAT'S GOING OOONNNN!!!" She wailed.
"I can't be a wife when I'm like this, how did this happen!? Why am I like this?!" She kept questioning as her ears continued to twitch and her tail shook about in waving fury and confusion.
Eventually Tamamo calmed as she began to realize something, she felt alive, truly alive, she could tell from recounting a flood of memories rolling through her head. The Moon Cell, the Grand Orders, old loves from previous life and when she was a heroic spirit, was she brought back to life and reborn? She began to feel the mana around her, it was abundant and everywhere within everything, in fact the mana presence was so great it might be comparable if not greater then the Age of Gods, and to top it all off there was no will of Gaia anywhere, the world simply radiated power.
With all those thoughts flooding her mind she once more sat upon the ground as she realized she was completely alone in an unknown place, Tamamo began to cry.
Her weeping was interrupted when when she heard a rustling noise in the brush nearby, she backed up and attempted to summon her Eight Fold Blessings mirror but couldn't, she felt weak, whatever had happened to her had affected her abilities by a huge margin, she only hoped it was temporary.
As she resigned herself to whatever fate had in store for her she was thrown for a loop when a 5 year old boy peaked out. He had black mop like hair, stormy gray blue eyes, a simple white shirt under a dark blue jacket, black pants and gray sneakers, it also looked like he had various bruises and bandages covering him which concerned Tamamo a bit about his well being, overall he didn't look that remarkable but Tamamo thought he was pretty cute. However, she couldn't sense anything from him, instead it was more like a distorted void, and it freaked her out a bit.
The two looked at one another not saying a word, the boy seemed to have a look of awe and wonder on his face, eventually he would be the one to break the silence.
"Who...are you?" The boy asked hesitantly.
Tamamo snapped out of her thoughts and replied.
"It would be courteous to introduce yourself first don't you think."
"Um, hi…my name is Touma Kamijou." The now name boy spoke as he quickly bowed.
Tamamo snickers a little as she then greeted in kind.
"I'm Tamamo no Mae."
Touma walked up to Tamamo and sat next to her.
"Nice to meet you Tamamo, are you ok? Why are you out here all alone?"
"I don't know, it all happened so fast, I can't make heads or tails of it."
Touma didn't know what else to say as awkward silence embellished them.
"Tamamo?"
"Hm?"
"Speaking of tails is yours real?" Touma asked innocently.
Tamamo didn't answer him right away, but instead opted to swish her tail his direction as telling him to touch it.
"Are you sure?" He asked hesitantly.
Tamamo gave a silent nod as Touma reached his right hand to pet her tail, as soon as he made contact a glass shattering noise went off as Tamamo felt her mana become suppressed, she quickly backed away from the boy.
"I'm sorry! I didn't hurt you did I?! He asked as an apologetic look crossed his face.
Tamamo felt bad, he really didn't look like he meant any harm, but what was that? She decided to shelve that question for now as she crawled her way back to Touma and once more presented her tail to him.
A smile quickly formed on his face as he made another reach but hesitated for a moment, only for Tamamo to give him another nod, once more he touched her tail and the glass shattering noise rung out again, she felt shivers down her back but didn't run, she finally relaxed into it.
As Touma continued to pet her tail Tamamo appreciated the amount of gentleness and care he showed.
"How did you find me Touma?" She then asked the big question.
"I heard you shouting and crying from the nearby road and I couldn't just ignore it, especially seeing you all alone out here."
"You said road, is there a town nearby?"
"Yep, it's where I live, I can take you there if you want." Touma offered.
Tamamo thought about it and it sounded better then scrounging in the woods so she accepted.
"Before we go…" Tamamo started, she used her shapeshifter ability to hide her fox features shocking Touma in the process.
"Shall we?" She said as Touma offered his hand to her which she took as Touma guided her to his hometown, unaware that this would be the start of a harrowing journey and a beautiful relationship.
However little did they know that someone was watching them from a far, and was making calculations to attempt to fit the anomaly that brought an interesting chess piece to the game, a wicked smile graced their face.
