Moonlight Meeting
I sat staring at the night sky
not a year ago
In a place that children normally dwell
Thinking of the sickle moon
and how it was hung
with the backdrop of stars
clustering for its attention
This sight drew me in
until an acquaintance appeared
and followed my suit
A girl with an insight much like my own
But, only when she spoke did I realise.
"Gaze upon the moon's beauty
though missing some of its splendour
and contemplate
if its attractiveness
is lessened for existing in the suns shadow
or enhanced for being its opposite
You are like the moon
by you being with your friends
you balance the scale
while everyone else gravitates towards you
with noone wishing to leave
for they are basking in both the sun and moon
That is your gift.
And your curse.
To be the dependable one
for those who are as fickle as the day is long."
She left soon after saying that touching spiel.
My thoughts turned inwards
as her footsteps fled from my side
running deep into the inky night
She was just right for one such as me.
If only she hadn't captured my best friend's heart
one who's so hard to please
none of us thought it would ever be
So instead I decided to be her shadow
like she said I am to my friends
Now I protect her
support her
and pretend
that she is like all others in my eyes.
While always remembering
our talk we had in the moonlight.

For those reading this that have yet to finish the series I came up with the idea for this poem after reading the extra in the last volume 36. When Mimasaka is sitting in a park late at night and Makino happens upon him. So I hope you enjoyed the poem and once again please review.
