Unhappy Endings
It all felt different after. Everywhere she turned it reminded her of the visit with him. Still, as she unpacked her belongings from the suitcase she had carried with her, she could smell him. That calming, soothing sent that she couldn't get enough of. Never had she ever dreamt it would have been this hard. She unpacked everything, one by one, examining each article of clothing carefully. Winry hadn't stayed with him for that long so only a few of her shirts had been wrinkled, others still perfectly folded neatly. It was all so sudden. Almost like a dream. Everything that happened had not felt real at all. But it was. For some reason that wonderful dream had turned into a horrible nightmare. The kind where you just want to wake up and can't, no matter how hard you try. As soon as she got to the other side of her suitcase she saw a small piece of paper hidden within one of the flaps. On it, written in thick black ink, centered in the middle, yet slanted. It read:
"I love you. –Ed"
As she had read it, her eyes began to tear up. She glanced away quickly, hugging the small torn in half piece paper closely to her chest as she tried to stop herself from crying. It was harder then she had expected. Those three days had quickly desolved into small vivid memories. As clear as they all seemed, they were just a blur. Just like a dream.

She left. It wasn't her choice. It wasn't his choice. It was fate's choice. He had to go back to his daily rutine in Central and she had to go home and return to making automail repairs. He can remember that last day very well. As much as he didn't want to, it was going to stick in his memory just as clear as it had happened. It all was repetitive in his head. He remembers the last smile she gave him. The last look. Everything. He walked around the small room for a moment, eyeing every bit of it. He could still see her, sitting right there, giggling and smiling and shaking her head. He frowned, feeling his insides being torn up little by little as he made his way more around the room. He paused for a moment, simply just staring out in front of him, his body completely still. Frozen. He took in a deep breath. Yeah, that was her. He could still smell her sweet sent. His body trembled slightly as he slowly began to sit himself down on the couch. He glanced down to the floor, his hair slowly sliding across his face and convering it completely. He just hung his head. Ed wasn't one to cry, well not around others. This did it for him. Slowly he began to feel small tears roll down his face, his body trembling even more. He rested his face into his palms, shaking his head, feeling his heart pound angrily against his chest. He blamed himself for her leave.

As much as it hurt the two, it had to happen. There was nothing that could have been done about it. Distance was what was chosen for them. Responsibility, defiance, guilt, and long-term goals were chosen for him. Waiting, faith, hope, and patience was chosen for her.
Maybe next visit will have a happy ending.
A/N: Yeah I know. The story seems incomplete. But that's how this one is.
