Chapter 2 The Grass Trouble
The alarm sounds echo in the room, but neither Ash and Goh wake up from their sleep. Pikachu was the first one to wake up as he can not endure the sound of the alarm.
"Pikapi…Pikapi…Pikapi…" Pikachu tried to wake Ash up. He slapped his face and stretched his cheeks. In the end, Pikachu gave Ash an electric shock.
"Ahhhhhhhh," Shock made Ash jump out of the bed. His hair was fried and smoking. Because of this commotion, Goh also wakes up.
"What's going on here?" He asked in his half sleep state.
"Nothing, just a normal start of the day," Ash said jokingly. Goh, now fully awake, stares at Ash with question marks hovering above his head.
"It smells good," Ash said as he sniffed the delicious smell coming out from the kitchen.
"Pikapika," Pikachu agreed with his trainer.
When Ash entered the kitchen, he saw a girl with Maroon colored hair. The girl also noticed Ash but said nothing.
"Oh, hey Chloe. I don't know you were here," Gah said as he stood behind Ash. Chole shifts her attention from Ash to Goh.
"I was also here yesterday," Chole dug into her bag and took out a bundle of paper. She walks up to Goh and hands him over the bundle.
"These are handouts for homework that the teacher asked me to deliver to you. I meant to give this to you yesterday but you never showed up," Chloe said than leave the kitchen.
"Who was she?" Ash finally asked after Chloe left.
"She's my childhood friend Chloe and she is also the daughter of Professor Cerise. She's not very good with strangers," Goh answered, explaining why she ignored Ash.
When Ash and Goh were eating breakfast, Goh's phone rings. He checked it and it was a message from Professor Cerise.
[Come to the lab, it's urgent] the message read.
"We need to go Ash, Professor Cerise wants us at the lab," Goh picks up his bags and runs towards the lab.
"Wait for me, Goh," Ash said as he and Pikachu quickly ate up what they could and followed Goh to the lab.
At the lab, everyone was watching various holographic screens which were showing various Ivysaur roaming around the city.
"What's going on in the city," Ash said.
"There is a massive outbreak of Ivysaur happening in the city," Chysao answered. The screen shows various parts of Vermillion city flooded with Ivyaour.
"But they all head in the same direction, the new gym that had been under construction for sometime,," Cerise's other assistant Ren said. After thinking about it for a moment, Professor Cerise turned toward Ash and Goh.
"Ash and Goh, I want you to investigate the cause behind Ivysaur's strange behavior. This will be your first task as a research fellow," He said. Upon hearing that they both become excited.
"Yes sir," They both shouted in unison then ran out of the lab.
"Will they be okay? What if the problem was bigger than they could handle?" Ren asked
"Of course. I have complete faith in them. Goh is smart kid, he can find a way out in difficult situation and Ash from what I heard from Professor Oak and from what he himself told us, he's a capable trainer who can keep his cool and make the right decision in challenging situation," He explained his reasoning behind choosing Ash and Goh for this task.
As Ash and Goh heading towards the gym, they spotted Office Jenney as she directed the traffic around the hordes of Ivysaur. Goh stops for a second to scan the Ivysaur with his phone's pokedex.
"What could have made them come out in such a large number?" Goh thought. He checked the map on his phone to get the correct location of the gym.
"The gym is in that…" Goh looked beside him and saw an empty space where he thought Ash was standing.
"Huh," His wide eyes blink twice.
"Now what am I going to do?" Ash also noticed that he had been separated from goh. Apparently when Goh had stopped to scan Ivysaur, Ash continued to run forwards without realizing that his partner had been stopped.
"Pikapikapi," Pikachu hung his head down, he was extra worried because he knew his trainer's directional ability was very bad.
"It will be alright buddy. We just need to follow that tower," Ash pointed towards the tower at a distance which was the gym according to Goh.
"Pi," But Pikachu has some doubts. He was not convinced that his trainer could pull it off.
"Do you not believe me?" Ash asked hurtfully.
"Pika," Pikachu nodded, which made Ash nearly fall on the ground.
"Just you wait, I will prove to you that I can go to any place without getting lost," Ash said with determination as he ran towards the building but the first turn he made ended up being a dead end.
"O come on," Ash yelled in frustration.
"Pikapi," Pikachu pointed towards a single Bulbasaur who was coming towards them. He stops near the wall and uses vine whip to hoist himself on the wall.
"Good idea Pikachu, if we follow Bulbasaur, he can lead us to the gym," Both Ash and Pikachu leap into action and climb the wall to pursue Bulbasaur.
In the meantime, Goh decided to investigate himself rather than finding Ash.
"It's his fault that he lost," Goh thought. As he arrived at the construction site, he saw the horde of Ivysaur going into the unfinished gym. He takes a peek inside the gym. He saw dozens of Venusaur captured in the net. Ivysaur were trying to free them but they were attacked by a Gyarados and a Tyranitar.
"How many of these stupid Ivysaur are in this city," said a magenata hair woman as she command Gyarador to use hydro pump on approaching Ivysaur.
"And where is the transport vehicle to take these Venusaur to HQ," said a blue-haired man as he ordered his Tyranitar to use dark pulse.
Goh continues to watch the battle between Ivysaur and those thieves as he doesn't have any pokemon to help them.
"I wish Ash was here," He thought as he now regretted his previous decision to not look for Ash.
"What're you doing here, kid," Goh freezes on the stop. He slowly turned around and saw a Meowth standing there. Goh was confused as he clearly heard someone's voice.
"If you don't answer then I have to try something else," Hearing a Meowth talking shocked Goh. He continued to stare at him with a dumbfounded expression.
"A talking pokemon!" Goh screamed in his mind. He forgets what situation he was in. Seeing this opportunity, Meowth kicked Goh which made him roll onto the ground.
"That's hurt," Goh tried to get up but was pushed down by a blue haired man as use his leg to keep Goh on the ground.
"Well well well, we had a wanna be hero kid," He taunt Goh.
"Can't we steal a pokemon without interrupting by some kid," magenata haired woman said in frustration.
"Who are you guys?" Goh asked.
"Glad you asked kid," said the man

"We are team rocket," They introduced themselves with their usual motto.
A sound of truck horn came as a truck entered the gym.
"They are finally here," Meowth said in satisfaction. Several team rocket grunts come out from the truck.
"Capture every single one of these pokemon, do not let a single pokemon escape," The woman ordered the grunts.
"Yes ma'am," They all said in unison.
Goh was tied with a rope in the corner. He watches as they use pokeballs to catch weakened pokemon. He felt completely helpless.
"Come on Ash, where are you?" Goh thought.
One of the grunt just about to catch a weakened Ivysaur, he was tackled by a bulbasaur.
"What the hell? Where that bulbasaur came from," He said. Bulbasaur takes a stand in front of injured Ivysaurs.
"Bulbasaur!" Ash shouted as he entered the gym but he quickly halted his pace, shocked by the scene in front of him.
"Ash! They are trying to steal all these pokemon," Goh yelled.
"Oh, if it isn't the twerp again," Jessie said.
"Team Rocket," Ash said under his breath as he saw the trio who pretty much followed him since the beginning. Something was different today, they were not alone today, they had a dozen people with them this time.
"That's right kid, we are not the same team rocket from before. Our boss finally saw our effort and gave us a promotion. Now we are the executive officer," James said.
"What're you waiting for? Capture him and his pikachu," ordered Meowth. Obeying the order, they released their pokemon which was all crobat.
"Crobat use air slash," All the crobat fire multiple light-blue blades of energy from its wings at Pikachu.
"Dodge with lighting speed then use electro ball on them,"
Pikachu zooms past barrage air slash as he moves in a zigzag pattern and then jumps into air to dodge remaining ones. While airborne he fires an electro ball at them. Crobat didn't have enough time to dodge the electro ball, thus the electro ball hits its target cerating a explosion and taking down multiple crobat at the same time.
"Thunder bolt," giving no time to the team rocket to respond, Ash issued another attack. Pikachu fires his thunder attack. It hits his target, as crobet were flying too close, the thunder jumps from one crobat to another taking many crobat down.
"It looks like we have to do this ourselves," Jessie said as she and James stood opposite Ash with their pokemon. Pikachu let out sparks of his cheek to show that he was ready for them.
"Gyarados use Ice Fang,"
"Tyranitar use Fire Fang,"
Jessie and James ordered as their pokemon rushed towards pikachu with their attacks.
"Pikachu dodge it and then use electro web," Ash said as Pikachu jumped at the right time to dodge the attacks which made them miss the target and also collide with each other. Pikachu then used an electro web to trap them.
"Gyarrrrr,"
"Tyrann,"
Caught in the electro web, both pokemon struggle to escape. Ash smirks as his plan to neutralize Gyarados and Tyranitar works.
"Now pikachu use thunderbolt,"
"PikapikapikaPIKA!" Pikachu charged up his thunderbolt and then fired it upon Gyarados and Tyranitar.
"GYAAAAAA!"
"TYRAAAAA!" The whole area around both pokemon explodes.
"Gyarados!"
"Tyranitar!"
Jessie and James called out to their pokemon. When the smoke cleared both pokemon were heavily injured.
"Wow," Goh was amazed by Ash and Pikachu. They take down dozens of Crobat every easily and outclass powerful pokemon like Gyarados and Tyranitar with their tactics.
"This isn't over yet, twerp," Jessie shouted.
"Gyarados,"
"Tyranitar,"
"Use Hyper beam," Jessie and James shouted at the same time. Both pokemon fire a powerful orange energy beam at Ash and Pikachu.
"Ash, Pikachu look out," Goh shouted in worry.
"Pikachu uses thunderbolt at your full power," Ash shouted as Pikachu charged the thunder at its fullest. Both attacks collided in the mid air. At first both sides looked equal but then the double hyper beam began to overpower the thunderbolt. Ash grit his teeth in frustration as he didn't have any other pokemon to back up Pikachu.
"Bulba," The same Bulbasaur who Ash follows, stands beside Pikachu. A white-yellow energy swirled at his bulb on his back. After charging up, he fires an energy beam of white-yellow color which combined
"It's a solar beam," Ash was surprised, as a bulbasaur using a solar beam was quite rare.
With the combined power of solar beam and thunderbolt, Pikachu and Balbasaur were able to overpowered hyper beam
BOOM!
Both slammed the attack on Gyarados and Tyranitar which created a massive explosion. The explosion caused the Team rocket to blast off with their pokemon.
"That Pikachu definitely had some kind of cheat code," Jessie said.
"We'll definitely catch him" Meowth said
"But for now we are blasting off," James said as they flew far away and then turned into a star.
On the ground, Ash freed Goh and other Ivysaur and Venusaur. He also called the pokemon center to treat injured pokemon. Slowly every pokemon was evacuated from the gym.
"And that's the last one," Ash said as the last Venusaur left the gym.
"Because of you, they were saved. You should be proud of yourself, Ash," Nurse joy of Vermilion city compliments Ash.
"Yeah Ash, it was amazing how you and Pikachu take down team rocket's pokemon," Goh also praised Ash and Pikachu's battling skills.
"It would be impossible without this little guy," Ash kneeled down and patted the bulbasaur.
"Thank you for taking me here and also helping us defeat team rocket," Ash said. Goh and Nurse Joy smile at the interaction between Ash and Balbasur.
"Balba balbasaur," Balbasur responded with a smiley face then it started to glow. Everyone had a shocked expression. When the glow died down, Balbasur had evolved into Ivysaur.
"Ivysaurrrr,"
"Amazing he evolved into Ivysaur," Goh said with sparkling eyes as it was the first time witnessed a pokemon evolve in front of his eyes.
"Sure is it," Ash said with the same energy as Goh. Seeing the enthusiasm of both boys, Nurse Joy chuckled.
After saying goodbye to Nurse Joy and the newly evolved Ivysaur, they were walking towards the lab. Goh was silent the whole time.
'What's the matter, Goh? Is everything alright?" Ash asked worriedly.
"Pokemon are amazing creatures," Goh suddenly exclaimed, which surprised Ash.
"I decided that I will catch every pokemon in the world," Goh said, full of determination.
"Then what happened to catch Mew as your first pokemon," Ash logically asked.
"Well, it said that every pokemon DNA comes from Mew, so if I catch all the pokemon I will definitely be able to meet Mew," Goh explained his point of view.
"Well then what are you waiting for, lets first head back to Professor Cerise Lab and tell them about this," Ash said.
"Right, let go," Goh said as both boys ran toward the Cerise's Lab.
