Chapter 2 - Family

Location: Mustafu City, Jetstream Hero Agency.

Date: December 27th 2129

Time: 6:13pm

Shinku looks at the agency on the outskirts of Mustafu city, he had been released from the hospital just earlier in the day, and was given documents to show the lead hero of the Jetstream Agency. The hero had been working on Shinku's case ever since he vanished.

Shinku doesn't even knock on the door before it opens and an old but tall man with sharp dark green eyes and short white hair looks down at him "Shinku Shigaraki, you were born in 2115, You and your mother went missing the day you were born, in 2119 a single strand of your mother's hair was found in Kamino and two weeks later she was found with a severe fever, for the next fifty days she struggled to even stay conscious. In the end she succumbed to the fever, her last words were that you were still alive, and that you were in his hands. Your father's name is" the old man scowls as if the name itself makes him angry "your father is Uragirimono Hassikai, only a month after you and your mother went missing he remarried into a Yakuza family, when your mother was found he never even made an attempt to visit or even contact her. Two weeks ago he and his wife Chijo Hassikai went missing leaving their daughter in the care of her grandfather."

Shinku absorbs the information as he stands at the front door of the agency, he puts his hand into the pocket of the All-Might hoodie he is still wearing, and he looks at the lead hero of the agency. "Yeah, you're definitely my grandfather."

The old man nods and holds out his hand "Hogo Shigaraki." Shinku looks at his grandfather's hand and notices the hole in the old man's palm and as he shakes his grandfather's hand he feels as if the air trapped between their hands is sucked into the hole.

Name: Hogo Shigaraki

Hero Name: Jetstream

Jetstream grants the user full manipulation of the air and wind. Allowing the user to create powerful winds through the palm of their hands.

Power: 4/5

Cooperativeness: 2/5

Shinku is brought inside the agency and immediately he feels a difference in the air, he isn't sure what it is, but he can tell something isn't quite right.

"I use my Quirk to push oxygen into the agency and carbon dioxide out of the agency, it makes us more efficient and the days more productive."

"Us" Shinku asks as they walk down the hallway of the agency.

Hogo stops in front of a meeting room "at my age I can't do everything myself, and with that said allow me to introduce you to my interns." Hogo then opens the door and walks in. "Interns, this is Shinku, treat him well."

Shinku looks at the two people sitting at the table, one is a girl with platinum blonde hair tied back into a ponytail, and her heterochromia eyes are light green on one side and a mix of yellow and purple on the other. She seems a bit older than Shinku and she is currently wearing a gray school uniform with a red tie "Hi I'm Tempest, I'm an intern studying at UA, Class 2-A, soon to be 3-A once our winter break is over, it's a pleasure to meet you!" She says with a smile and a salute.

The guy sitting next to her has green hair, Shinku can't tell if it is dyed or just his natural hair color, his light brown eyes glance briefly from his phone to Shinku "I'm Kagaku, also a UA student. I'm going to be in 3-B if you're curious." Kagaku wears a white lab coat with a green dress shirt underneath it, and black cargo pants with black boots.

Temple goes to climb over the table to approach Shinku but gets off the table as Hogo looks at her, dusts off her skirt and goes to shake Shinku's hand, on the side that is missing an arm.

Tempest then realizes her mistake and bows "SORRY!" She grabs Shinku's other hand and shakes it as hard as she can. "I didn't see that!"

Shinku raises his hand up "It's fine, I'm still getting used to it myself."

Tempest without warning grabs Shinku's shoulders and shakes him "STILL GETTING USED TO IT?! DID YOU JUST RECOVER FROM LOSING YOUR ARM?! I'M SOOO SOR-"

Hogo clears his throat to get his intern's attention "Shinku woke up on the twenty fourth, he is missing his memories, and-" Hogo is interrupted as his phone goes off and Hogo frowns as he reads a message "Change of plans. Kagaku, Tempest, I'm leaving Shinku in your care. I'm needed in Fukuoka."

"Is everything ok?" Tempest asks.

"I have to meet with an old student of mine" Hogo says "I'll be back in a few hours. If anything happens I'll need you both to handle it without me."

"Even if a No…" Tempest says before stopping as she remembers Shinku is in the room.

"If need be Shinku is strong enough to keep himself safe, but I expect you two to keep him safe. Strong or not he is not a hero."

Hogo then leaves and Tempest immediately races over to cling to Kagaku "AHH WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO?! We can't fight those things!"

"Those things?"

Kagaku pushes Tempest off of him and takes Shinku out of the meeting room and closes the door "Don't mind Tempest, her Quirk is a bit of a burden on her, so she tends to worry about unimportant stuff."

Shinku follows Kagaku down the hall "So what do you do here?"

Kagaku stops at a door with a plaque that has his name on it "as a future hero I typically go out on patrol, look for villains to stop or people to save, other than that I help out with the old man's paperwork and reports. In return" Kagaku opens the door to his office and it looks more like an apartment room than an office "I get to live here for free."

"You live here?"

Kagaku shrugs, "It's not bad, clean air, a roof over my head, and I don't have to commute to my internship. Tempest also stays in her office, but I am yet to see the old man spend a night here. Then again, I've never been in his office so who knows. Anyways there's an empty office next to Tempest's so I'm guessing you'll be able to set up there."

"But I don't work here… I'm too young to work as well."

Kagaku shakes his head "I've been here since I was eleven, trust me when I say he'll find something for you to do.

"Ah… is it legal?"

"As long as you're training to be a hero" Kagaku answers "There was an incident a few years ago when another hero saw me doing the old man's paperwork, but when they found out the old man was training me to become a hero they looked the other way. I'm sure they'll do the same for you. Anyways, enough about me tell me a bit about yourself." Kagaku walks over to the mini-fridge in his room and tosses Shinku a can of cherry soda while grabbing a can of grape soda for himself.

"Hogo already said I woke up without my memories, and the past few days have been spent in a hospital while the doctors were checking my health. I did meet a hero who gave me this hoodie, but other than that not much else happened."

Kagaku takes a drink of his soda as he sits at his desk and props his feet up "so you've got nothing… no wonder the old man took you in." Kagaku reaches into a drawer in his desk "Here."

He tosses a package towards Shinku and it lands in his lap. Shinku looks at the package and notices the phone in it "A phone?"

"You're going to need one, and Tempest gave it to me for Christmas but my current phone is still good so you can keep it. Think of it as a late Christmas gift."

"Thanks," Shinku says, pocketing the phone "Speaking of Tempest, what's her deal? You said something about her Quirk being a burden?"

"It's really not my place to pry into other people's business, but just so you know her Quirk replaced one of her lungs with an organ that produces electricity. So she has a hard time doing things most normal people can do, still she tries her best and does everything she can to help out. She's just a bit insecure about herself."

"She lives here too?"

Kagaku takes another drink "Yeah, I found her in an alley one day. No idea what happened to her but I brought her here, the old man fixed her up and let her stay in one of the spare offices, in return she cleans and makes dinner while we go to UA to become heroes."

"Why do you want to be a hero?" Shinku asks.

"The pay is pretty good" Kagaku admits "I need money, and the old man is training me to be a hero anyways. So I might as well put that training to use and let him retire. As for Tempest… She has her own reasons, and they're not mine to say."

Shinku takes a drink "fair enough. What about Hogo, what's his deal?"

"He's an old man who lost his daughter and grandson" Kagaku says before sitting upright at his desk "But that's not entirely true, is it?"

"How can you tell?"

"It was a hunch" Kagaku admits "You do have similar features, but your answer confirms my suspicion. You're the old man's grandson. Now the question is where you came from, and what happened to you."

"That's what I wanted to ask my grandfather, but he seems like a busy guy."

Kagaku tosses his empty can of soda across the room and into a garbage can "Sometimes, sometimes he goes on patrol, sometimes he stays cooped up in his office, sometimes we train together, and sometimes he goes out to meet with an old student of his. Point is the old man doesn't stick to a schedule, so you'll have to ask your questions whenever you see him."

"Believe me I will" Shinku says "but in the meantime I want to try something myself, back at the hospital I learned a bit about my Quirk but I never got the chance to use it, and I want to see just what I can do."

"In that case we have a training room in the basement" Kagaku says, getting up from his seat "And you definitely should know how your Quirk works if you want to live a normal life. So let's get you started."

The two of them exit the room and walk through the agency, Kagaku pauses as he sticks his head into the meeting room "Hey, I'm going to test Shinku on his Quirk, you wanna wa-"

Tempest swings the door open "Way ahead of you" She yells running down the hall.

Kagaku looks at the paperwork in the room and then back at Shinku "Change of plans, I need that stuff done before the old man gets back. Tempest may not be as skilled with Quirks as me, but she's still good at what she does. There's a set of stairs past the kitchen that leads downstairs, you won't miss the training room. Now if you excuse me I need to finish Tempest's work."

Shinku walks through the agency, now all on his own. He follows Kagaku's instructions and enters the kitchen. Out of curiosity he checks the fridge and takes notes of the fruits, vegetables, and other items inside of it.

"Hungry? Don't worry once we're done I'll start making dinner" Tempest says, seemingly appearing right behind Shinku, having snuck up on the boy with no sound whatsoever.

Shinku jumps away in surprise, hitting his head against the wall of the kitchen.

Tempest tries her best not to laugh "Ah that never gets old, sorry about that, I tend to be a lot more sneaky than what most people expect, anyways is your head ok?"

"It's fine, I didn't hit it that hard."

Tempest shuts the fridge. "Welp, I guess Kagaku is busy with my paperwork, I've never really been good at it and my handwriting kind of sucks, so he's always done it for me."

"He told me you usually do the cleaning and cooking, and that you're also a student at UA."

Tempest nods "soon to be in Class 3-A, but you already know that. Anyways let's see what your Quirk is… hmm I need a nickname for you… white hair… red eyes… oh! Candycane!"

"Candycane?" Shinku repeats "Why that?"

"Cause it's just a little past Christmas silly! And you're red and white, and you seem like a sweet person."

"Thanks… I guess?"

Tempest grabs Shinku's arm "Anyways Candycane, let's see that Quirk of yours!" Tempest practically drags Shinku down the stairs and into a room with padded walls, the floor seems like someone had burned it before and the lights flicker as Tempest walks into the room "Well? Let's see it."

Shinku takes off the All-Might hoodie and carefully sets it down on the ground.

Shinku aims his hand forward and closes his eyes. Like how a doctor suggested.

"My name is Shinku Shigaraki, I am missing my arm, my memories, and I've only been awake for a few days. In those days I've met some really nice people, doctors, a hero, my grandfather, and his interns." Shinku opens his eyes and looks at the other end of the training room. He focuses on a specific spot and puts everything he has into his arm.

A hole opens in his palm, and blood begins to spray outward. But the blood is then followed by red crystals that race out of his palm like water released from a floodgate. Slamming into the opposite side of the room, creating a sound that can only be described as hundreds of glass plates smashing and shattering against one another all at once.

Shinku falls over as his arm stops producing crystals but the hold in his hand does not close, slowly leaking out blood that crystallizes once it hits the floor.

"Ok wow" Tempest says, thoroughly impressed. "That's a lot of power, are you ok?"

Jasper stares at the crystals in front of him "So many people have helped me already, the least I can do is use this power to help them. I'm more than ok."

Hogo Shigaraki sits down at a secluded table in a restaurant, across from him sits a lean man wearing a gray suit, his dark green hair has three streaks of yellow in the front, and the man's yellow eyes look right through his triangular glasses and stare at Hogo "Good evening Sensei" Mirai Sasaki says "usually you're on time or early to our meetings, did something happen?"

Hogo takes a deep breath "Shinku, he arrived at my agency earlier today."

Mirai pauses, adjusts his glasses, and pretends to look at his menu "Alive I presume?"

Hogo nods as a waitress walks up, he orders a drink and sets the menu down "No memories and a missing arm, but other than that he was fine."

The hero known as Sir Nighteye looks up from his menu, having already decided to order a salad before Hogo had even arrived "No memories? Isn't that a little convenient."

"I agree, but one look at him and I could tell he was genuinely lost. Tempest and Kagaku should be showing him around the agency or seeing the potential of his Quirk right about now."

Nighteye pulls a file out of his suit "Speaking of which, do you think he has Overflow?"

Hogo looks down, the dim lights above hide his eyes "my daughter is no longer with us, so I have no doubt he is wielding it. Him being aware of it is still a question… I'd rather he figure things out himself."

"We still don't know if he is involved in this" Nighteye adds "The situation has his name written all over it."

"We don't know for certain" Hogo points out "Our enemy had many allies, and many have gone into hiding ever since his defeat. That friend of yours certainly hunted quite a lot of them down, but I'm sure there are still more of them out there."

"Yes, Toshinori has worked very hard, but I fear my vision can no longer be avoided. And if he truly is doomed to die, then I hope he comes to his senses and reconsiders his choice of successor."

"Ah, I forgot he chose some kid over Mirio" Hogo says "What was the kid's name again? Izkuu or something."

"Izuku Midoriya" Nighteye corrects "I've looked at his record, and there's almost nothing of note. Good grades, no criminal record… and no Quirk."

Hogo raises an eyebrow "Ah, now I see why Toshi picked him."

"Yes, Toshinori was also Quirkless so I can see why he empathized with the boy, but choosing him to be his successor? I just don't understand."

"Mirai" Hogo calls out to catch his student's attention "People are enigmatic. You'll never completely know a person."

The waitress returns with a bowl of salad and a mug of beer for Hogo.

"Drinking again Sensei?"

"In moderation" Hogo says, pulling a flask out of his jacket "some for the road." He carefully pours the alcohol into the flask and puts it back into his coat "And I'm going to need a drink when my grandson starts asking questions."

Nighteye stays quiet "As long as you're careful sir, I don't need to carry you back home again."

Hogo takes one long drink as his student speaks to him "Ahh, those were the days. You were so little back then."

"And your hair wasn't gray and white" Nighteye retorts before eating a bit of his salad "Still, you were a good teacher."

"Are" Hogo corrects "I still have interns to teach, and now Shinku." Hogo sets the empty mug down. "Speaking of whom, I should get back before it's too late, I'm sure the kid has a lot of questions." Hogo leaves enough cash on the table to cover his drink and gets up "Pleasure as always Mirai, I'll keep you updated as usual."

"As will I, Sensei."
