So... the two one-shots I made seem to have a little bit of success (at least judging from the people who have put them in their favourites and the fact that I got reviews from Batguy01, another author, shout-out to you!), which I'm very happy about. Now, it's time to go a little deeper.
There's currently two mini-series I'm writing for IC, mini-series that will show more shenanigans (and their consequences) provoked by the anonymous main character of my previous one-shots (that I will tentatively name "The Wild Card" as of now). I have finished the first chapters of each one and this is the first of the two.
During Multiversal Moves, the Wild Card contacted some video game characters and helped them escape into the real world and kill their creator. These characters are, out-of-universe, from the indie video game The Hex, by Daniel Mullins (if you are curious, go check a longplay or the TVTropes pages or buy the game on Steam). What I was implying was that most of the lore in Daniel Mullins' games (most notably Pony Island, The Hex & Inscryption) existed into the MCU and happened in some way, shape or form.
Here, we're gonna see each member of the Hex as they now live their lives in the MCU and try to trace their own paths for the first time. This will be a more "slice-of-life" and laid-back series. Which means it will probably be faster to complete. We'll see. Anyway, here's the chapter!
Disclaimer: I own nothing and Infinity Crisis was created by Michael Weyer.

« OK, I have to go now, thanks, Joe, that was cool ! »
A high five was done between a tall, lean black man with a mustache and the one who just talked, an anthropomorphic weasel with orange fur and wearing cropped pants, a red headscarf, sunglasses and had tattoos all over his body. Said weasel left immediately. This was a very good evening but now, he needed to go back to home.
Weasel Kid was his name. He was thinking about changing it, recently, and tested a bunch of names, none of them being quite satisfying. But he was sure he would find a good one as soon as possible. Though, he doubt he could change it legally.
After all, he was supposed to not exist for real, because of the fact that he was a video game character, originally.
He hadn't thought of his past life in a while. At least, since him and the others got out of the game world they were in, which meant… two weeks. And God, those two weeks were something. Not only for him, but also for his companions.
First of all, they had to escape Lionel' apartment after Reggie offed him. Then, they had to inform themselves about the world they were now in and what just happened. Several of the people they met told them about an even named « The Snap » that made a bunch of people disappear. Weasel had to refrain himself from laughing every time he was hearing one of the names they gave to this thing, because « Snap » and « Blip » were ridiculous names, no matter what anyone would say. Even when Reggie told him that it could be seen as disrespectful. He had to apologize to at least one person for that.
Then, the biggest question was : what do we do now ? Because even after achieving their goal and killing the one who made them suffer… well, they had nothing left to do and it was impossible for them to go back to their homeworld (not that they wanted to, anyway) so they were truly on their own.
Fortunately, luck seemed to still be with them. Five days later, while they were searching for something in various neighborhoods of New York, it was Chandrelle who found a place. It was a building in an area named Harlem. It also seemed mostly empty, as she didn't saw any kind of people while looking inside and many of the apartments had nothing as well. It was enough for them to decide that it would be the place they would live in. So, they went and made themselves comfortable.
While they decided to live all together (mostly for practical purposes), each member of the Hex decided mostly to do their own business and try to live a real life, to see what this world could offer them. It took time for Weasel Kid to find something to do and even now, he wasn't sure of what path he would take. He was attending regular rap battles and similar events that were happening at the evenings (including the one he just left) but, if you asked him, he wouldn't consider himself the best contestant but he would not deny that he liked the vibes of these events. His past self would have had different feelings about that, but being a free man changed him and the others, more than he would admit. Maybe he could try to write some raps. There was a chance people would find him weird because of his entire life up until that point but from what he understood, people here were accustomed to weird things.
The young man got interrupted in his thoughts when he saw that he arrived in front of the entrance of the building. He thought he should be more lost in his thoughts, that was making the walk more pleasant. After he ringed the alarm, the door unlocked itself and he entered. He called the elevator. Lucky for him, it was a day where it was willing to work, which wasn't every day. With that, it took him 10 seconds to go to the second floor, where their apartment was.
There was nothing unusual with the building but Weasel was still a bit uneasy with how the floors were long and dark. A feeling that was exacerbated when he was forced to take the stairs. He wasn't complaining too much since he had a home but if it could be a bit less fucking scary, he would be even more grateful.
He suddenly heard the noise of someone lighting a cigarette and looked up. He could see a man not too far away from him. He was entirely black, as black as a shadow, whether it was his skin or his clothes. The only way to perceive him was the fact that the upper half of his face, his right arm and his lower body (legs and feet included) were entirely made of metal, with a red left eye and a white eyepatch covering his right eye. With that, the trenchcoat and the classy fedora, he looked like a perfect fusion between a cyborg and a mafioso from these old movies that Rust enjoyed so much. Except this guy wasn't human at all. He could tell it from his anatomy and the way he looked, he couldn't be someone who was born in this world.
« What are ya looking at, runt ? »
The man just turned his head towards Weasel. His facial expression was of someone who didn't liked being disturbed, not to mention his deep, smokey voice. He had a certain presence and Weasel thought it was in his best interest to respond. Just for the pleasure of talking with someone, of course, not because he was a bit afraid he would be in trouble if the man got exasperated.
« N.. nothing, sir. I was going home and I just heard you lighting your thing. »
The former platformer icon tried his best to not sound like he was frightened but it half-failed, he still sounded awkward. His interlocutor didn't seem to mind too much.
« I see… you're living in this floor, right ? »
Weasel raised one eye.
« Yes ? I mean, yes, but I don't know how you know this, I'm… not sure I saw you before. »
« We're here since last week. Ya probably didn't saw me but you probably met my boys. Surely Deuce. Little bastard was way too happy to greet new neighbors, can't say I blame 'im. »
« Not the sociable type ? »
« Nah. We're the sort of people who do everything by themselves. When you gain habits, s'complicated to get rid of them. »
The animal just nodded his head in approbation and the place become silent again for a few seconds until the man spoke again.
« What's ya name, boy ? »
« Hm… Weasel Kid, sir. I know it sounds silly but hey, not everyone has luck at that. »
« Huh huh. I guess. By the way, don't call me sir. Name's Spades Slick. »
The name sounded pretty cool.
« OK, I'll keep that in mind. Uh… I will not disturb you more, I'll go home. Have a good evening ! »
He started to resume his walking but he could still hear Slick talking again.
« You too, boy. I'm sure we'll meet again at one point. »
Weasel didn't knew what he was implying but he still nodded his head. This world was definitely weird but he guessed he could live with that.
And here you go! That was fun to write.
In case you don't know, Spades Slick is another Homestuck character and one of my personal favourites. He's the leader of a ruthless quartet of film noir-styled gangsters named the Midnight Crew (at least, in the beginning) and many interesting things happened to him during the comic, which are too long to explain here. They were all dead at one point but as you can see, the Midnight Crew is now alive and living in the MCU too! What does this mean? I don't know, I haven't really planned much in advance but they'll be important, at least, it's what I want for them!
For the rest, I hope you liked this chapter. If you want something with more energy or plot, the first chapter of my other IC mini-series will be posted tomorrow (chapter that will partially explain, in an indirect way, why the Midnight Crew is alive again) and I also hope you'll like this one, I'm very excited to show you what I had in mind!
Don't forget the reviews and all that stuff if there's something you want to say and there's also a TVTropes page for Infinity Crisis in general! If you found a trope or a moment that you personally found awesome, funny, heartwarming... (and it goes for every story who is a part of it, not just mine) please, add it to the main page or the sub-pages!
See ya!
