Yeah I know a flashback but an important one. The only other 'big one' might be how Naruto makes Azegeda submit as alluded in chapter 1. Let's face it strength or not the Ice Nation is not exactly 'okay' with being 'forced' to submit another rule.
AN1: Naruto is 'roughly' the same age as the delinquents in the present.
Chapter 3 Naruto's Ascension
Many Years Ago
Naruto sighed as he heard the cheers of the various clans sitting in the arena. He was sitting by himself in a waiting room with his arms crossed.
'Is this what it takes to get to peace in this world? Slaughtering my fellow black blooded brothers and sisters to become the leader who can actually make peaceful change.' Naruto thought sourly.
"Welcome delegates of the 11 clans!" Titus voiced announced as they could be heard the movement of bowing towards the current Flame Keeper. AN2:
"Today is a day of both anticipation and celebration. We have 9 Natblida here to fight for the right and honour of being our next Heda!" Titus stated as there was loud burst of clapping.
'Yeah great celebration. Asking children who were born special and different to fight to the death for your entertainment. Wow that definitely doesn't remind me of Jinchuuiki or anything.' Naruto scoffed rolling his eyes.
"I will give Titus can at least stir the crowd the right way. I suppose he must be persuasive and charismatic to still be Flame Keeper for 4 Commanders and not be killed off." Naruto mused as he flicked a knife in his hand absentmindedly.
"However Titus. When I become Heda do not think I will be some figure head you can 'speak on behalf of'. You will be my advisor and nothing else." Naruto promised coldly as his eyes narrowed.
"Due to the unusual number of Natblida in our midst we the order of the Flame have decided instead of a battle royale. It will shall be three groups of three warriors. Once one of each group has moved on to the next round there will be a final round where the three champions shall fight each other and the last one standing shall be our Heda!" Titus commanded as the crowd cheered in agreement.
"Now! We shall have our first warriors come to the arena!" Titus voice boomed.
"Elvar of Trishanakru!" Titus shouted as there was a loud cry of approval from people he knew were from Trishanakru. AN3:
"Felix of Azegeda!" Titus announced as there was another loud set of cheers from the Azegeda delegates.
"Finally, Naruto of Trikru!" Titus shouted with just the tiniest hint of pride in his voice making Naruto smile faintly. It was no secret that Titus favoured Naruto although as Flame Keeper would accept whoever was 'chosen by the spirit of the Commander'.
Naruto walked out to a massive burst of cheering. It was no secret that as Polis the current capital of the of the 11 clans that Trikru was the most favoured clan and that most of the population of the capital were considered Trikru.
Naruto walked to the center of the arena were Felix and Elvar gave him wary looks. It was no secret that Naruto was considered 'special' even among the Natblida due to his unusual abilities and physical abilities.
Naruto had a single knife which he kept to his side while Felix eyed the spear on the wall and Elvar eyed the axe hanging.
"Warriors. One shall be standing at the end and move on to the next round. The other two will be remembered and honoured for their blood and sacrifice in selecting our new commander." Titus said solemnly as he bowed his head being used to the process.
"You may continue and may the Spirit of the Commanders guide you to victory." Titus announced as he put his hand down to signal the start of the Conclave.
Instantly Felix and Elvar shared a look as they sprinted to grab the weapons they wanted. Felix picking up the spear and Elvar grabbing the Axe.
"Two on one. I should be flattered. However sadly male relations are not something I enjoy." Naruto sighed as the two males growled and glared at him.
Elvar roared and charged at Naruto who easily kept out of range of his axe with an amused smile. Felix hanged back watching them carefully.
"When I become Heda I will crush my foot on Trikru neck and make them fall on their knees! I shall bring honour to Trishankru!" Elvar declared as he kept swinging the axe at Naruto with Naruto effortlessly dodging with ease.
"Ah so you want to become the new Sheiheda huh." Naruto mused as the delegates winced at the name of the infamous Malachi of Sangedakru while Sangedakru members growled at the slight towards their clan.
"I will be the first to admit the history of our beloved Commanders is one born from blood and conquest. I do not believe besides the First Commander Becca we can claim any of the commanders would be considered benevolent." Naruto sighed as he sidestepped a thrust from Elvar and slapped away a thrust from Felix's spear.
"However, to want to become like someone whose main claim to fame was killing 3 of his own Flame Keepers and being killed by his fourth. That is rather sad in my opinion." Naruto mused as used his single knife to parry both of his opponents at once.
'Naruto. What purpose is this to bring up the past during a fight like this?' Titus thought with a neutral expression.
Behind him stood a young teen called Gaia who looked at Naruto with great interest while her mother had a look of sorrow at the blonde.
'He hates war despite having the power to subjugate all the clans by force. Its ironic I who would preach strength above all still would want to follow his way of peace if he was chosen to be commander.' Indra thought.
"Quiet Trikru! You clan is weak and when I become Heda than your clan will nothing more then sacrifices needed to bring the Mountain people down!" Felix declared as there were cries of agreement from the Azegeda members with the Queen smirking at the annoyed look sent by Indra.
"Oh? I suppose that means I should keep Azegeda in line when I become Heda then." Naruto mused as he leapt in between Elvar and Felix in a front flip much to their shock.
Naruto knife blocked Elvar's Axe as Naruto sidestepped Felix's swing. With his free hand he pulled on Felix's spear forcing him to come closer before he sent a kick into his stomach. Felix coughed up blood before he let go of the spear and was sent flying into the wall cracking it and leaving him on the ground.
Nia Queen of Azegeda growled at her Natblida warrior being defeated in such a manner.
"Get up! Your Queen commands it!" Nia shouted in anger.
'Felix cannot lose. He is the only Natblida that Azegeda has in the Conclave. I can't afford to use Ontari yet. She is my secret trump card if the Heda will not kneel.' Nia thought urgently.
With Felix out of commission Naruto then focused on Elvar who was sweating trying to keep up. Despite Elvar much larger weapon Naruto was forcing him on the defensive with his quick swings on his knife. Elvar began to back up as he was being forced back.
Naruto kept his face neutral before much to the surprise of Elva and everyone else Naruto flicked his knife into the air. Elvar instantly tried to take advantage of the seemingly open position Naruto left himself.
However, Naruto caught the swing of the axe with two fingers on his left hand and much to Elvar's shock he couldn't pull the axe back. Naruto then sent a kick to his knees making him trip and stumble. The last thing he saw was Naruto catching his knife with his free hand as Naruto eyes were sad but resolved.
"Yu gonplei ste odon, (your fight is over). May we meet again." Naruto said solemnly.
Naruto stabbed his knife quick as lightning and Elvar knew no more as the knife buried itself into his skull in one quick thrust and he was gone.
"Elvar of Trishanakru has been defeated. Now only two remain in this round of the Conclave!" Titus announced as gong sounded showing the defeat of a champion.
Naruto plucked his knife out of Elvar's skull and flicked the blood off it with a sigh.
"Azegeda will never bow to you demon! No matter if you become Heda or onot, we shall never accept you as our commander!" Felix declared angrily as his mouth was dripping blood and he had a hand on his stomach.
Trikru was outraged at the disrespect that was shown to Naruto while he only raised an eyebrow.
'They do seem to be a problem.' Naruto mused. 'I guess Azegeda will only respect power and force and not the traditions of our people.'
"Well I guess Azegeda will either accept the results of the conclave or they won't. Sadly, you won't be here to find out which it will be." Naruto said stoically as he picked up the axe.
"For my Queen!" Felix screamed as he charged at Naruto at full speed with his spear aiming for Naruto heart.
Naruto threw the axe at Felix forcing him to stop and deflect it with notable effort as he redirected it to the side using the spear. What Felix was not expecting was for Naruto's knife to bury itself into his hand holding the spear.
"No!" Felix screamed in pain as he dropped to his knees as he held onto the stump of his hand with his free hand.
Felix looked up to see Naruto standing above him with tired but sad eyes.
"Finish it. We are not allowed to live in shame." Felix mumbled resentfully as he eyed Queen Nia glaring at him with disappointment.
"May we meet again my black blooded brother." Naruto stated as he plucked the knife out of Felix hand in one quick pull.
Felix closed his eyes with a smile as Naruto stabbed him in the heart with a painless thrust. Felix let out one single grunt before he collapsed dead.
Nia gripped her fist in anger while Trikru screamed their approval and the other clans gave Naruto wary looks of respect.
Naruto pulled his knife out and walked over to Elvar corpse closing his eyes as a sign of respect and last rights.
"Naruto of Trikru has won his battle! He shall advance to the final rounds after our next 2 champions are decided!" Tidus announced as Naruto nodded to him.
Naruto and Indra gave slight nods and Naruto slyly winked at Gaia who was barely holding back from grinning and hugging him in public.
"I am going to meditate. I will make sure to arrive back after the other champions have been selected." Naruto told Tidus who nodded.
"Take care." Tidus whispered showing just the slightest amount of approval on his usual stoic face.
Naruto walked back to his room nodding to the many shouts of approvals from the crowd.
Naruto flicked the blood off his knife and pocketed it as he sat down on his bench.
"It will probably come down to Lexa, Luna and myself. We did promise one of us would become Heda and change the system that have plaque our people since the spirit of the commanders was passed on." Naruto thought as he looked up at the roof.
He could vaguely hear the shouts of his people and others shouting as clangs of weapons clashed.
'I hope Luna doesn't have to fight her brother but I guess one way or another he will have to die if one of us is to be Heda.' Naruto thought sadly as he clenched his fist.
'Luna is good and Lexa as well but sadly her brother is not as good. May Becca welcome you soul in the afterlife.' Naruto prayed silently to the First Commander and saviour of the people who stayed on the ground after the Praimfaiya.
For several minutes he heard clashing of weapons and the shouting of happy people who wanted to see a fight making him sigh.
"Lexa Of Trikru has conquered and won her right to proceed!" Titus shouted as they were once again happy cries of Trikru shouting Lexa's name.
"Well done Lexa." Naruto said simply as he had a simple smile leaning against the wall.
'Now it is Luna's turn.' Naruto thought sadly as he had a gut feeling that Titus perhaps subtly influenced the matches so that the three of them would not be matched in the first rounds. Although he would not bother saying it if it was true.
Lexa walked in with a grim smile that turned warmer when she saw Naruto grin at her.
"It will be the three of us after all?" Naruto asked with a smile but sad eyes.
"Indeed. There is no other way." Lexa admitted as she sat next to Naruto resting her head on his shoulder. AN4:
"Did you have to…?" Naruto asked the unspoken question. Naruto could see in her eyes that Lexa was paired with Luna's actual brother. The only siblings of all the Nightbleeda that shared a bond deeper then mutual black blood.
Lexa looked down and nodded.
"I made it quick and painless." Lexa stated as Naruto nodded.
"I see. May he find peace." Naruto whispered as Lexa grabbed his hand.
"When it's the three of us. Please don't hold back. I don't want my end to be known as one of weakness." Lexa asked quietly as Naruto stood up.
"Lexa!" Naruto shouted in surprise as he looked at her with shock.
"I am not afraid. I am also sure Luna understands. We cannot beat you. You must win and make sure the clans respect you and change so peace can truly happen. You must show them the better way." Lexa told her sternly but she smiled.
"I…." Naruto replied with a destressed look.
Lexa put a hand on his face and whispered "As long as you remember us there won't be any need to feel sadness at our deaths. We will live on in your memories forever and in return we will be watching you."
Lexa and Naruto spent a few minutes unable to say another word as they just stood there. Naruto grabbed Lexa hand as he smiled softly at her.
Naruto was about to reply when Titus voice could be heard again.
"Luna of Trikru has triumphed and will advance to the final round!" Titus voice boomed.
"Now Lexa Kom Trikru and Naruto Kom Trikru please come to the arena for the final Conclave!" Titus announced.
"Lexa… I…" Naruto started not sure what to say to his fellow Trikru nightblood.
"We shall meet again." Lexa said simply as she smiled at him with warm eyes before she walked off.
"…. Is there truly no other way…" Naruto mumbled before he sighed.
Soon they walked through different doors into hallways.
"Now the final conclave round! Whoever is left standing shall be our new Heda! Will it be Lexa, Luna or Naruto Kom Trikru who triumphs?" Titus asked.
There was general cheers from Trikru and outright booing from Azegeda. Most of the other clans appeared to be rather stoic seemingly not caring who won of the three Trikru nightbloods.
Naruto pushed the door open to reveal the arena that been mostly cleaned up besides some splotches of blood and vomit. He saw Luna and Lexa stand in opposite corners of arena.
Lexa and Luna had stoic expressions but there was a slight acceptance as if they knew they would not walking out of there alive.
"Warriors. The final round ends when one rises and the others falls. May the spirit of the Commanders choose their next Commander well." Titus told them as everyone bowed their head for a moment.
At this point it was believed that the Spirit of the Commanders 'chose' the next Commander through combat but Naruto could see it was merely a blood bath to show strength and be 'chosen' as the next commander.
"Now warriors! You may begin!" Titus declared a bell rang signifying the start of the final round.
Instantly Lexa grabbed a spear while Luna grabbed a sword while Naruto kept his knife sheathed and looked sadly at his two friends.
Lexa and Luna started to clash rapidly while Naruto stood there with his face showed reluctance.
"Fight Naruto! If not for yourself then for those that came before you!" Indra shouted as Naruto blinked he effortlessly avoided both thrusts at him with a simple side step.
"Naruto. If this is the end for us then let it be one that we can remember to the end!" Luna shouted as her sword did a series of fast slashes that Naruto avoided with quick footwork.
"…" Naruto was speechless as he continued to defended himself against Luna relentless assault.
Naruto grabbed his knife and finally parried Luna sword swing with the much smaller blade so he could use his threw hand to grab the wooden part of Lexa's spear and stop it in its track.
"Naruto! You were the one who was meant to carry the clans forward! With our deaths you can truly make the difference our people need!" Lexa declared as he eyes showed acceptance of her death.
Naruto eyes narrowed as he pushed Luna away by thrusting his knife forward and making Luna stumble. This left Naruto able to grab Lexa's spear fully with his hand as she tried to pull it free. Naruto yanked it towards him as she was forced to come towards Naruto. Naruto sent an elbow into her gut while he held his knife.
That single blow to her gut made her cough up blood as he sent another blow to her stomach before finally kicking her away as she was sent flying into the wall.
Indra was shocked at Naruto's brutality while Titus closed his eyes in resignation knowing this was the only way forward for Naruto. Queen Nia smirked at the bloodshed as the other clans roared their approval at Naruto's actions.
Luna had managed to get back to her feet as she rushed forward sword in hand. Naruto had sheathed his knife and met her charge head on. Luna started a string of impressive swings and thrusts of her sword that most people would be hard pressed to dodge let alone defend against. Yet against Naruto it was no good as Naruto easily dodged and weaved out of her swings with ease even as Luna tried her best to hit him.
Finally, Naruto seemingly inhumane reflexes allowed him to see a tiny gap in Luna fight pattern as his left hand reached forward and grabbed her sword hand wrist mid swing. This made her gasp in shock as she couldn't pull her hand back no matter how hard she tried.
Naruto sent his right-hand palm upwards towards her chin. There was a slight crack as Luna head was forced up as she coughed up black blood from the impact. Then he sent a series of light but still devasting punches into Luna body until she finally dropped her sword in defeat and pain.
Naruto picked her up and threw her towards Lexa as Luna fell in a heap next to the exhausted and a barely awake Lexa.
"Finish us and ascend." Luna whispered her eyes glossy as she closed her eyes.
"Our fight is over." Lexa added as she weakly nodded her head.
"Naruto Kom Trikru will finish the conclave when he delivers the final blow against the fallen warriors." Titus announced as the cheers ran out besides Azegeda.
Naruto stared down at them and picked up Luna sword and looked down at them with a neutral expression. The cheers continued and peaked in noise after a minute.
"No." Naruto simple word quieted the entire crowd as everyone including Luna and Lexa looked at him like they saw a ghost.
"Naruto? What did you say?" Titus asked with his eyes widened.
"I said no. I will not end the lives of Lexa and Luna." Naruto declared as he stabbed the sword into the ground and crossed his eyes.
Instantly the crowd booed him including Trikru.
"Traitor!"
"Blasphemy!"
"Finish them!"
"This is madness!"
Were some of the cries from the crowd as they booed Naruto.
Titus regained order by telling his aide to ring the bell.
"Naruto Kom Trikru. This has never happened in the history of the commanders. There has always been an ending to the conclave to decide who our next Heda is." Titus stated sternly crossing his arms.
"Bekka PramHeda saved us from Praimfaya all those years ago. I do not think her spirit wants or cares if we slaughter ourselves to honour them!" Naruto retorted as Titus frowned at him.
"I have shown my strength in front of all the clans and leaders. I do not think anymore bloodshed is needed to end this conclave and choose the next Heda!" Naruto declared as Titus thought carefully looking at Naruto critically.
"And Lexa and Luna? What should happen to those two? What happens if they suddenly want to be Heda while you live Naruto?" Titus asked as he gestured to the fallen two female Night Bloods.
"They will be excluded from any ascensions as they lost the conclave. Their lives will come at the cost of never being Heda regardless if I die first." Naruto suggested as Titus looked thoughtful.
"Do you accept these terms? I will need you to verbally agree in front of the clans right now." Titus commanded.
Lexa and Luna looked at each other and nodded. They weakly got to their feet and knelt towards Naruto bowing their heads.
"We accept the new Heda from now to our last days. We will never usurp him or ascend him no matter how long we live." Lexa and Luna chanted as Naruto smiled.
"So be it. The Keepers of the Flames accept this conclave to be over and accept Naruto Kom Trikru to be the next Heda of the clans!" Titus declared as he stomped his foot.
Trikru relaxed as Indra gave him a nod to accept the result.
However, the other clans shouted at Naruto and even Titus for this disrespect of their culture and traditions.
Naruto voiced roared over everyone as he glared up at everyone.
"Fine! If my blood does not convince you then let my strength! Send anyone you want at me and I will defeat them! If you beat me then we can have a new conclave without Trikru but if you lose then you will accept my ascension!" Naruto declared as he raised his hand up to 'come on'.
Dozens of people leapt after Naruto with whatever weapons they could find. However a short but brutal beat down where he broke limbs but did not cripple them Naruto was alone on his feet dozens of people at his feet defeated and humbled.
Azegeda was the only clan still in the stands as Naruto grabbed a sword and pointed at Queen Nia.
"Queen Nia of Azegeda will you fight me next?" Naruto asked as Nia glared at him with hatred.
The warriors of Azegeda looked at the Queen who grit her teeth but shook her head.
"No you have proven your strength…" Nia stated but with a 'for now' hanging in the air.
Soon the defeated clan members were returned to the stands as Naruto picked up Lexa and Luna with one arm each as they weakly clung to him as he returned them to their rooms with Trikru warriors guarding them.
The Clan delegates and leaders were led to the throne room as Titus returned with the 'Flame' in hand.
Naruto knelt in front of the throne as Titus picked up the "spirit of the commanders" and walked behind Naruto.
"Ascende Superius." (seek higher things) Titus whispered as the Flame activated and small meanchical tenacles focused on Naruto's neck. Naruto closed his eyes as the Flame tenacles extended and buried into Naruto's neck leaving a tiny trail of black blood. The Flame itself buried itself into Naruto neck and implanted into Naruto's brain.
After a few seconds Naruto eyes opened with a new clarity.
Naruto did the Ansension ritual naming all the past Commanders starting with Bekka Pramheda, and then Callie Kom Trikru AN5: all the way to himself including Sheidheda.
"Long live Naruto Kom Trikru the next Heda!" Titus declared as the 11 clans bowed to the new Commander who looked impassively to all his new people.
"Now time to make some changes for the good of all people."
AN2: At this point Flokru doesn't exist as in my story Luna is both the leader and creator of that clan. She doesn't start it till after the Conclave.
AN3: I just used a random name generator.
AN4: before the Clexa fans kill me remember this Lexa is not going to be Commander and she is a different person. Yes in canon she is Lesbian but here she trusts and loves Naruto.
AN5: Yes I know she was only stated to be a flamekeeper but in my story she ruled and protected the flame till the next Commander. I am not going to name all the Commanders as even the show blanks out most of them.
