With Or Without You
The Beginning
Summer was just standing there, looking breathlessly at what had happened in the past five minutes.
Trey was lying on the floor, his mouth and eyes wide open, staring at the ceiling; his right hand pressed onto the wound where the bullet had hit him. It was so silent in the room you could hear the gun slipping out of Marissa's hand and falling to the floor. Marissa slid to the ground, leaning against the wall. Tears were streaming down her face. She was not able to speak, not even able to breathe after what she had done.
When she finally started speaking her voice was low.
"Oh my God," she gasped "Oh my God!"
Summer had to force herself to stop looking at Trey, in order to be able to take care of Marissa.
"We need an ambulance, quick!" Ryan cried "Seth! Call the hospital, goddamnit!"
While Seth dialed the number, Summer sat down next to Marissa and softly stroke over her head.
"Honey, everything's ok. The ambulance will come. Everything's gonna be ok, alright?"
Marissa didn't say a word.
"Marissa! Do you hear me? Everything's gonna be alright! He won't die! You did the right thing!"
"No, I didn't," she said, her voice shaking.
"Yes, you did. Otherwise he would have killed Ryan. You sure as hell did the right thing," she tried to stay as calm as possible.
"It's never good to shoot someone. I never wanted to do this. I never wanted it to end like that. It's my fault! It's only my fault!"
"It's nobody's fault, Marissa. Stop saying such things!"
Marissa's eyes slowly moved towards the gun lying next to her on the floor. Summer didn't notice she put one finger after the other on it, until she held the whole weapon in her left hand. She slowly raised it to her head and pressed it against her temple. Then she put her finger on the trigger. And did it.
