For a while, it was all just darkness. How long had he been out? Not a clue. For all he knew, he was out for hours.
Gumball woke up, his eyes blinking unsteadily and slowly. At first, his surroundings were blurry and unfamiliar, as he sat up and itched the back of his head a little bit. It was only when his vision cleared that he realized where he was.
Nobody accompanied him in the cell. He didn't know what that meant. Did police think of him that much a threat he couldn't be around others? Or was it the prisoners rather, afraid of him?
The horrid memories came back to him slowly.
He sat there for a moment, tears streaming down his cheeks. There was no way to fix this now. He had nobody to lean on, nobody to come to for help or comfort. He was.. Alone. Trapped. Possibly forever.
"Wow, what a sight, huh?" The voice appeared beside him, a grin on its face, as it sat on the floor.
Gumball didn't move. His mouth began to however, as he whispered in a low voice. "Get out."
"Hm?" It raised an eyebrow. "Ehh.. I don't really want to."
"I said, get out." The words were louder, yet the feline didn't look at it. He only stared at the cold cement before him, his expression dark and intense.
The voice only grins. "Feisty, aren't you? Not like I'm doing anything right now. Unless you want me to? I can do that easily." Suddenly, it floated over and phased through into Gumball, laughing as it did so. "See? Easy as cake. Haha!"
"GET OUT OF MY BODY!" The cat yelled with utter rage in his voice, as he desperately swayed side to side, hoping it would leave. It did not. "GET OUT! GET OUT!"
In a panicked manner, he soon unsheathed his claws, digging them into his arms as he scratched them over and over. He didn't care that he was bleeding. He wanted it out. The wounds stung as he continued over and over, as he screamed in agony, only hearing the voice laughing at him from inside his head.
"Hey! Hey!" Some police officers took notice of what was happening, quickly entering the cell, tasers at their sides. "Stop what you're doing now!"
As they tried to restrain him, Gumball burst into tears, not stopping his screams of pain. He flailed around as he did so. "Make him stop! Make him stop it hurts!"
"Quiet!" One policeman replied angrily. He turned to the other officer. "Come on, we're taking him to the canteen after he gets patched up. They'll shut him up."
The other nodded, and dragged the cat with them down the hallway, who still very much sobbed in their grip.
Prison cafeterias weren't supposed to be all happy and cheery. He knew this well. It felt rather intimidating however. Spoons clinking against bowls, the loud talking of the other prisoners, the orders barked by kitchen staff leaders.
The option of sitting at any table was a terrible choice to him. He had been placed in a generally older group, the others stronger and scarier. If anything, his insanity felt more like a whimper compared to most of these people.
Gumball stood by in the corner of the room, quietly picking at his excuse for food. It was laughable how similar it was to the school food. The thought of school however only soured his mood. He didn't want any reminders of it. The meal reeked of some unknown odor, and at this point he just gave up trying to consume any of it.
"Hey."
A rough deep voice had interrupted his thoughts. Terrified, the cat looked up warily, seeing a man towering over him, his anger easily noticed. What would he even say? Anything could probably tick him off. Instead, he sat there without a word, trying to muster whatever bravery he still had left.
"You're that skull guy aren't you?" The man's anger seemed to increase, studying the other. "What gave you the right to murder Hank eh?!"
"N-No! I-I don't know who you're talking about I didn't do that!" Gumball began to back away, feeling the flashbacks horribly crashing back into his head, just as painful as they always were. Why couldn't it stop?
This response does not appease the man. Rather, it only made him angrier, as he came closer, ready to throw fists right then and there. "I won't let him go until you're dead."
At this point, the feline's paws were shaking, the tray in his grip moving as if it were in an earthquake. Bits of food sloshed over onto the ground. Terrified, he tried to find a way out, to no avail. Darkness began to cloud his surroundings, much to his horror. "No, no not again! Please not again!"
The man was all he could see in front of him, the look of utter rage bold and scary. For a moment, he could've sworn he saw the voice cackling behind him.
The voice.
A loud thud erupted, to which Gumball looked down, realizing he had dropped his tray. The food was splattered everywhere, some having gotten on him as well. Once he glanced back up, he screamed, seeing Tobias now in place of the angry man. Panic filled his head, as voices got louder, some blending together into garbled language unbearable to listen to. He bumped into what appeared to be some kind of wall, preventing him from escaping.
Unable to think straight, he leapt at the dead Tobias. The cat scratched him across the face repeatedly, and bit him when he tried fighting back. He couldn't help but feel himself crying, as he continued hurting him. This was Tobias's fault. It has to be. He had caused the first murder to happen, hadn't he?
A mysterious force suddenly lifted the feline off the body, and threw him to a cold cement floor.
"W-What?.." Gumball looked around at his surroundings, the realization hitting him as the darkness faded from his view. Policemen surrounded him, menacing and angry, some fully prepared to tackle him if he even dared move. A body could be seen from behind one of them, a bit of blood dropped onto the floor. Slowly, his gaze fixed onto his paws, tiny drops of blood on his claws, as well as dripping lightly from what seemed to be coming from his mouth.
His vision was failing again, getting slightly blurrier as he clutched his head. All he could feel was utter horror. "Nonononono I didn't do it! I didn't do it! I-I didn't!"
Before he knew it, officers had his arms pinned behind his back, and he was sent back down the hall. On his way out, the feline noticed some other prisoners watching. Some shared sympathy, but only sat there continuing to eat. They couldn't do a thing. For all he knew, they didn't care.
He soon realized they had passed the cells.
The police were quick with their movements, ignoring his cries as they fastened the strait jacket on. One of them soon carefully strapped a muzzle onto him as well. After what had happened, it couldn't be more obvious why it was there. Completing their task, they tossed the cat into a securely padded room, locking the door behind them.
"NO WAIT!" Gumball had fell to the soft floor, and now sat up, panic filling him as he tried to get himself free of the restraints. Tears began to appear in his eyes. "IT WASN'T MY FAULT I SWEAR! IT WASN'T MY FAULT!"
Silence only remained. However, muttered talking could be heard through the door. Perhaps it wasn't as sound proof as he thought.
Cautiously, the feline scooted over to the locked entrance, placing an ear over it. The outdoor voices could be heard slightly better now. Were they talking about him?
"What should we do about the kid?"
"Just leave em' there Frank, it's not like he's going to escape all that anytime soon."
"That's true, but I'm getting sick of all the screaming in there."
"Ah right the soundproofing stinks in there."
"Exactly. That kid needs to be elsewhere."
"I've got an idea.. We can dump him at that hospital for however long he lives. Those folks will deal with him. Lock him up and all."
"Ah yeah that's perfect. Which hospital is that? The Ivyine's Institiute for the Insane?"
"That one yes."
"Let's do it then."
The cat had been listening through the door with utter horror. Being locked away once more. Hadn't everyone done that enough? He got the hint, he's a menace to society, but there was only so much that could be done with him, less they decide to finally just end him right there.
His thoughts were interrupted as the metal door began to open. Panicked, he scooted away, pretending as if he hadn't heard it. However, he hadn't been quick enough, as something struck him in the side. What was it? He wasn't sure. The feline's eyes began to droop, and he fell into a deep sleep.
