+ No Bravery +

Brothers lie In shallow graves Father's lost Without a trace A nation blind To their disgrace Since he has been here And I see No bravery In your eyes Anymore Only sadness

He would speak of death often, as though it was a fond friend and to him it was, a comforting shadow always at his feet. It was the one thing he knew his entire life, while all else deserted him, death was the only thing that stayed true and the only hope for pure eternal freedom, that of which Rome could not take. He never questioned why it was he who was chosen for such a cold and lonely fate, he never mulled over it.

"It is only one life I am given and I will not waste it by wondering why it was me, I will simply live what I have left." he would often say, I would smile and nod, knowing there was no argument.

To Galahad he felt the most loyalty owed, not to Arthur and not to any other knight, it was Galahad whose mother made him promise to care for. Gawain was a man of his word and kept his promises, even if some saw them as impossible. There were nights, towards the end of it all that I thought he held a greater love for Galahad then myself but by morning's light, he would return to my arms, falling asleep as soon as they wrapped about him.

Our relationship was not one of monogamy, he had his separate lovers and I had mine, we did not question this. To me he came when he could handle his emotions no more and to me he vowed his soul until the last breath left his lips, to him I gave my heart. Marriage we knew would follow but that was after his missions were complete, when we could return to Sarmatia.

To him, the thought of returning home included his brothers in arms and as one fell after another to the cold hand of death, I saw him begin to diminish within his eyes. It was not the same smile that graced his lips, it was not the same happiness that shadowed in his eyes and it was not the same kiss that rested upon my own lips, there was a certain coldness to it. It was as though he had all ready began to let go.
