I do not own the Vampire Diaries
Zach: I can't tell you what to do. But coming back here was a mistake.
[Opens a door. Pulls out a journal with what looks to be a really old picture of Elena. The writing under the picture says Katherine 1864]
"You know I found it really disturbing that the both of you fell for a girl with the exact same face as a girl who had played with both of your feelings and ruined your relationship with each other. Even after Katherine comes back and makes it her mission to make your lives as miserable as possible, you still dote on Elena. I mean seriously, she had not only broken your hearts a number of times but she's also the reason all your lives are a living hell and still you look at Elena and see a completely different person, which is beyond me considering the fact that when I look at her, all I see is Katherine number 2, just a less attractive and more dumber version." Aiden said with a shrug of his shoulders.
"I am not Katherine!" Elena shouted out in anger.
"You're right Elena," Lucy said and just as Elena calmed down slightly at the girl finally agreeing with her, she then said, "As I've told you before, you're worse. Frankly, everyone would have been better off without you. Your friends wouldn't be caught in between this drama, getting tortured, hurt or losing people they care about, just to save you. The Salvatore brothers would definitely be happier, even if they never restored their brotherly bond, they were still far better off without you in their lives." Lucy said, she didn't care how harsh it may have sounded, it was the truth. The Mikaelsons smirked at that, well except Elijah who didn't say or do a thing to agree to Lucy's words but nor did he defend Elena.
"That was harsh," Matt commented his brows furrowed despite how much some parts of what she said were true, in the sense that they had all, got hurt one way or another whilst protecting Elena but that wasn't Elena's fault, the girl didn't need to be so harsh about it.
"Believe me after you've watched everything I have, you'll probably be thinking along the same lines." Lucy commented with a shrug of her shoulders and before anyone else could say anything she quickly said, "Anyway, back to the screen."
Mystic Falls High School
[In history class.]
Tanner: The Battle of Willow Creek took place right at the end of the war in our very own Mystic Falls. How many casualties resulted in this battle? Ms. Bennett?
Bonnie: Um...a lot? I'm not sure. Like a whole lot.
Tanner: Cute becomes dumb in an instant, Ms. Bennett. Mr. Donovan? Would you like to take this opportunity to overcome your embedded jock stereotype?
"I just want to stop and say thank you from the bottom of my heart for killing the bastard Damie. It may seem heartless and all but I honestly don't care, he's a douchebag that finds happiness in bullying his own students and the world was better off without him." Lucy proclaimed, and everyone couldn't help but agree, except Elena who was looking at her in disgust, how could she be so heartless?
"You're welcome. Finally, someone to appreciate my genius," Damon said with a smirk.
"Oh please, you did it in the heat of the moment to prove a point, there was hardly any genius in that," Stefan said mockingly.
"Stop ruining my fun Stef," Damon groaned annoyed as Alaric chuckled in his seat, it being cut off by the smack to his arm causing him to glare at Damon only for him to smirk back at him.
"Ok people we haven't even finished the first episode yet when we've got the rest of the 22 of the first Season to get through and there are 8 seasons in total, so let's get to it," Lucy said before resuming the memory not noticing their shocked looks, this was going to take a long time.
Matt: It's okay, Mr. Tanner, I'm cool with it.
Tanner: Hmm. Elena? Surely you can enlighten us about one of the town's most significantly historical events?
Elena: I'm sorry, I-I don't know.
Tanner: I was willing to be lenient last year for obvious reasons, Elena. But the personal excuses ended with summer break.
"I have to admit, that was pretty shitty of him. What kind of idiot expects a teenager to grieve for their parents in the span of a few months? The insensitive fool," Aiden scoffed at the stupid excuse for a teacher.
"I second that," Lucy said nodding her head at him.
"Tanner was an absolute d£$%," Tyler said in agreement.
"If there's one thing we can agree on, it's that," Jeremy said to him.
"You know in the show, you two had the potential of forming a very strong bromance but they had to go and ruin with all the sire bond shit," Lucy rolled her eyes before playing the show.
Stefan: There were 346 casualties. Unless you're counting local civilians.
Tanner: That's correct. Mister...?
Stefan: Salvatore.
Tanner: Salvatore. Any relation to the original settlers here at Mystic Falls?
Stefan: Distant.
"Distant my ass," Aiden scoffed as some of the others smiled in agreement.
Tanner: Well, very good. Except, of course, there were no civilian casualties in this battle.
Stefan: Actually, there were 27, sir. Confederate soldiers, they fired on the church, believing it to be housing weapons. They were wrong. It was a night of great loss. The founder's archives are, uh, stored in civil hall if you'd like to brush up on your facts, Mr. Tanner.
"I swear I love sassy Steffie, he is the best," Lucy said with a smile. Silas and drunk Stefan were hilarious.
"Thank you, I guess," Stefan said awkwardly.
"You're welcome Steffie. You are just such a sweetheart," Lucy gushed. In real life, he was the guy that every girl would want to live their life with, he was the guy who would fulfill their white picket fence fantasies, he would love you forever no matter what, so it was just sad that in the end, he had died on his wedding day of all days and forced to spend the rest of his days alone without his brother or his beloved wife and wait until the day that they would return. It was depressing to think about to be honest.
Stefan coughed and looked away at that awkwardly, he wasn't used to compliments like this after all.
"You might want to dial down the compliments darling," Kol said, he knew that the younger Salvatore was feeling awkward about it but he could care less about that, he only stopped Lucy because he was really beginning to get irritated with her praising the others. He then internally scoffed and forced himself to think that he didn't care for her opinion, she would be leaving soon so there was no point. Yet despite that, he still couldn't control how angry he felt at her words when he was sitting right next to her.
"Oh, sorry, am I making you uncomfortable Steffie? I can stop if you want. I just...I'm a huge fan of TVD and seeing you all in person is taking some getting used to and I can now get everything out that I've held in watching the show so I can be a bit too forward sometimes," Lucy said apologetically.
"It's fine Lucy," Stefan said with a reassuring smile on her face.
"Is that an 'it's fine but please do stop with the compliments because it's really awkward' or an 'it's fine, you don't have to stop with the compliments, it's totally fine and only a little awkward'?" Lucy asked to clarify.
"The second one," Stefan replied and she beamed at that, he then noticed how two men were looking at her fondly, one being her best friend which was understandable, but the other being Kol, an original. He hoped that the girl wouldn't get hurt in any way because of him, she didn't deserve that after what they had all found out but were clearly trying to ignore, not wanting to make her uncomfortable.
"Yay!" Lucy said happily before she turned back to the memory and played it, not noticing Kol appraising her with fondness in his eyes.
Tanner: Hmm.
[Stefan arrives at the party and is listening for Elena.]
Bonnie: Just admit it, Elena.
Elena: Oh, okay, so he's a little pretty.
"Just what every guy wants to hear," Aiden said sarcastically as the other men in the room agreed.
Bonnie: He has that romance novel stare.
[Caroline walks up to Stefan.]
Caroline: Hey! You made it!
Stefan: I did.
Caroline: Well, let's get you a drink.
Stefan: Well, I'm-
Caroline: Oh, come on.
"Oh god, I was really overbearing, sorry Stefan, that must have made you feel so awkward," Caroline said apologetically embarrassed.
"It's fine Care, you don't need to keep apologizing," Stefan said completely fine with it, they were good friends now after all.
[Bonnie and Elena are still talking.]
Bonnie: So where is he?
Elena: I don't know. You tell me, you're the psychic one.
Bonnie: Right, I forgot. Okay, so give me a sec. Grams says I have to concentrate.
Elena: Wait, you need a crystal ball.
[She gives her a bottle. Bonnie takes it and touches Elena's hand. Bonnie spaces out for a while, comes back to her senses, and abruptly pulls her hand back.]
Elena: What?
Bonnie: That was weird. When I touched you, I saw a crow.
Elena: What?
Bonnie: A crow. There was fog, a man. I'm drunk. It's the drinking. There's nothing psychic about it. Yeah? Ok, I'm gonna get a refill.
"Have you had any of those premonition things after that?" Lucy asked curiously, having forgotten if there was anything like that later on or if the directors had just left it like they did Damon's control of the crow and fog.
"I think the last one I had was when I dreamt about being trapped in one of Klaus's coffins and my mother opening it. That's when I knew I needed her help," Bonnie said after thinking about it for a moment. Lucy remembered that moment before she just nodded with a smile at Bonnie before resuming the memory.
[Bonnie leaves Elena alone.]
Elena: Okay? Bonnie!
[She turns around Stefan is behind her.]
Stefan: Hi.
Elena: Hi.
Stefan: I did it again, didn't it?
Elena: Yeah.
Stefan: I'm sorry. You're upset about something.
Elena: Oh, uh, no, it's- it's just Bonnie. She's...You know what? Never mind. You're...here.
Stefan: I'm here.
[Bridge near the party.]
Elena: You know, you're kind of the talk of the town.
Stefan: Am I?
Elena: Mmm hmm. Mysterious new guy, oh, yeah.
Stefan: Well, you have the mysterious thing going, too. Twinged in sadness.
Elena: What makes you think that I'm sad?
Stefan: Well, we did meet in a graveyard.
Elena: Right. Well, no, technically we met in the men's room. You don't want to know, it's...it's not exactly party chit-chat.
Stefan: Well, I've never really been very good at, uh, chit-chat.
Elena: Last spring. . my parents' car drove off of a bridge into the lake. And I was in the backseat and I survived, but...they didn't. So that's my story.
Stefan: You won't be sad forever, Elena.
[Woods by the party.]
Vicki: No, Ty. I'm not having sex against a tree.
"Oh my God!" Matt groaned immediately turning his face away, he did not need to see his sister like that.
Tyler: Oh, come on, it would be hot.
Vicki: For who? No, it's not going to happen. It's not going to happen, not here, not like this. No. I said no. I said no! Ow, that hurts!
The sound of a crack echoed through the room as Tyler's face went swinging to the side, blood pooling out of his now apparently broken nose that started to heal quickly.
"What the hell Tyler?" Matt asked having never felt so enraged in his life, he was about to go in for another punch before he felt his limbs lock in place and all he could do was glare at a guilty-looking Tyler. No one had ever heard nor seen Matt so angry before, like ever, and it was completely understandable since he had just watched his best friend literally sexually assault his now-dead sister.
"I'm sorry Matt. I was a d£$% back then, you have no idea how guilty I feel for how I treated Vicky and I..." Tyler began apologizing not wanting to lose his best friend.
"Save it Tyler." Matt snapped at him angrily not wanting to hear his apology or any excuse he had to make, even Caroline was looking at Tyler in disgust.
"Matt please, I'm sorry," Tyler said apologetically.
"I said save it," Matt said, not wanting to hear anything right now, he was too pissed off.
[Jeremy appears.]
Jeremy: Hey, leave her alone!
Tyler: You know, you're starting to get on my nerves, Gilbert.
Vicky: Just go, Tyler, get the hell away from me.
Tyler: Wow. Vicki Donovan says no. That's a first.
"Let go of me!" Matt said struggling in his chair but the pressure refused to move. He so wanted to hit Tyler again, he couldn't believe what he was seeing and hearing, that whilst Tyler had been playing best friends with him, behind his back he was treating his sister like this whilst knowing that she was all he had.
"Cinnamon Roll. I get that you're pissed off but you've gotta calm down," Lucy said understanding his frustration.
Matt was going to snap at her but he knew she was right and besides, he was going to get nothing out of saying something potentially horrible to the girl so he forcefully calmed himself down so that the pressure thing would let him go before he moved to sit on the other side of Jeremy. He couldn't sit next to Tyler right now when the urge to throttle him was getting increasingly tempting.
Once Lucy saw that he had calmed down, she played the memory after giving him a look of concern.
[Tyler leaves.]
Vicky: I didn't need your help.
Jeremy: It seems like you did.
Vicky: He was just drunk.
Jeremy: I'm drunk. Am I throwing myself at you?
Vicky: No, you're worse. You want to talk to me, get to know me, see into my soul and screw and screw and screw until you're done with me.
Jeremy: Is that what you think?
Vicky: That's what I know.
"Thanks for looking out for her Jer even if she didn't appreciate it," Matt said gratefully.
"No problem Matt," Jeremy replied.
[Bridge by the party.]
Stefan: I like Bonnie, she seems like a good friend.
"Thanks Stefan," Bonnie said gratefully now feeling a little more guilty for how she had acted with him at first.
"No problem Bonnie. You are a great friend after all," Stefan said smiling at her.
"As are you," Bonnie said smiling back at him. Her and Stefan never had been that close but in the times they had been together, he was a good friend to her.
Elena: Best friend in the world.
"Which you took advantage of thoroughly," Lucy couldn't help but say.
"I've had it with your comments. Leave me alone," Elena snapped annoyed.
"You know what, maybe I should have brought Kat instead, would have been so much more entertaining," Lucy said frowning.
"Don't you control who comes here? It's not a bad idea after all," Aiden said with a smirk that basically told everyone he loved causing mischief.
"Oh right I forgot," Lucy said brightly.
"No absolutely not. You cannot bring her here," Elena shouted angrily.
"Of course My lady, as you say, however you say, whenever you say, whatever you say. On second thought, you know what, I don't care," Lucy said with a mocking smile on her face.
"Ok, uh, Lucy I might have to agree with the bitch. I really don't think bringing Katherine here is a good idea," Rebekah said, she had more than enough of doppelgangers.
"I brought all of you here though Bekah. It wouldn't be fair to leave out one of the main characters of the entire show. A lot of you are enemies here and yet I still brought you in the same room, I can't leave Kat out, that would be unfair," Lucy said with a frown on his face.
"But darling, another doppelganger, really? One's enough to deal with" Kol said annoyed.
"She's not just any doppelganger though, she's the best cause she's different from the rest," Lucy proclaimed. "None of you can hurt each other, the only way she'll annoy you is by talking and I'm sure you're all old enough for that not to affect you."
She didn't listen to anyone else's protests before she thought of bringing Kat here. "Ok she'll probably come in a little while with her usual dramatic entrance."
"You cannot be serious?" Elena asked completely pissed off.
"Nope, unfortunately he's dead," Lucy said sadly as she remembered what she told her.
"What?" Stefan asked confused.
"Nothing," Lucy said immediately before playing the memory. Damon furrowed his brows slightly before shaking it off, it was just a coincidence. He just remembered her talking about her Godfather and the joke he loved to use and the fact that he was dead. No, it was just a coincidence.
Stefan: And Matt, he can't seem to, uh, take his eyes off of us.
Elena: Matt's that friend since childhood that you start dating because you owe it to yourselves to see if you can be more.
"I dated you because I loved you, not because I was giving us a trial period like you were apparently doing. It meant a lot to me, clearly I was fooling myself to think it meant anything to you too because the way you just worded that seemed like you were giving me a chance just for the heck of it, not because there was anything from your side. You should have made sense of your feelings, figured out what you felt about me before you agreed to go out with me. It just hurt me more in the end but for you it was nothing though, wasn't it? You didn't feel anything, you just strung me along whilst you were still figuring things out." Matt snapped after hearing what had been the first love of his life, the first heartbreak worded so carelessly, then he realised. "The car crash was just your excuse to get away from me," Matt said not even knowing what to feel right now, anger, sadness, hurt. What should he feel knowing the girl he had loved more than anything thought of him as nothing but a temporary fling.
"Matt I..." Elena began before trailing off, not knowing what to say to that.
"Tell me I'm lying Elena." Matt dared but Elena just swallowed and looked away. "There's my answer. God, that was shitty of you. You used your parents death as an excuse to get away from me. Do you know how much that hurts?"
"I-I didn't...I just..." Elena stuttered at the looks she was getting from the others.
"Save it Elena," Matt said shaking his head swallowing the tears back, there was no point crying over something that had happened such a long time ago.
"Do you want me to play the memory?" Lucy asked softly feeling sad for him, it wasn't fair.
"Yeah just play it," Matt said after seeing that she was asking him.
Lucy frowned once again in sympathy for Matt, she didn't know why so many people hated Matt, his actor she got, but not him. He's been through so much more than people realise but just because he's not the main character, people don't see those things as important. If someone were to watch a movie about the main character having fallen in love with a girl, only for her to leave him and then fall in love with someone else, in the same school, so basically having to see them everyday being all lovey dovey and then adding in his home life, they'd be feeling so sad for him, they'd be cursing the girl for ruining the one actual good thing he saw in his life but because Matt's not the main character, he's not important in their eyes and therefore compared to the others, his life is considered meaningless. It was honestly just said she thought as she played the memory.
Stefan: And?
Elena: And then my parents died, and everything changes. Anyway, Matt and I, together we just, I don't know, it wasn't, um...it wasn't...
Stefan: Passionate?
Elena: No. No, it wasn't passionate...
[Stefan's eyes start to change.]
Elena: Hey, um, are you okay? Um, Your eye, it just, it's—
Stefan: Oh, um...Yeah, no. It's, um, it's nothing. Um, are you thirsty? I'm gonna get us a drink.
"Very subtle Stefan," Damon mocked but he wasn't in much of a jokey mood as he thought over what had just happened. That Elena had played Donovan, he didn't care about him but he could sympathise with a broken heart he supposed. Katherine had played him and Stefan, but Elena was different, well at least that's what he thought.
"Shut up Damon," Stefan rolled his eyes.
[He leaves.]
[Near the party.]
Vicky: Jeremy? Is that you?...Jeremy?
[Fog descends around her. A man is standing behind her. She is attacked.]
Matt glared at Damon angrily as he saw his sister get attacked, it was obviously him, who else could it be? He had been the one to turn her into a vampire, he was the reason she was dead.
The Mystic Falls Gang all shot glares at Damon as he sat there unbothered, he had already apologised about this, he honestly didn't care that much to bother doing it again.
"Damon..." Elena began but she was cut off.
"How could you, you shouldn't have done that, she was innocent. I got it Elena, there's no point wasting your breath," Damon said rolling his eyes.
"Damon seriously what you did was wrong. When are you going to stop making jokes about serious things?" Elena asked shaking her head at him disappointedly.
"Despite how much I didn't like Vicky, she didn't deserve what she got and if you hadn't done what you did, Jeremy wouldn't have lost his first love and Matt wouldn't have lost his sister," Caroline added. Elena might think he has changed but she didn't think so, because if he had then he wouldn't have killed Tyler in the future and he wouldn't be so laidback about taking a life of an innocent girl.
"Why did you do it anyway?" Matt asked trying to control his anger because there was literally no point right now, for one, he wouldn't be able to move if he tried and two, Damon was much stronger than him.
"Boredom apparently," Elena answered from what she had heard from Stefan.
"You did that to my sister out of boredom. She was the only one I had left and she died because you got bored, seriously?" Matt asked angrily.
Damon didn't say anything, just stared straight ahead, there was no point saying anything because there was nothing he could say to defend himself other than saying Stefan was the one that killed her but the truth was despite the fact that Stefan had held the stake, it had been him who was the reason for it.
Lucy just played the memory in the silence that followed, she knew it wasn't going to get any better considering what Damon did later on in the memories but what could she do? She couldn't defend his earlier actions even if she wanted to because they were well and truly wrong. She just hoped they'd all see that he has changed from the man he used to be.
[At the party.]
Matt: Looking for someone?
Elena: Hey.
Matt: When you broke up with me, you said it was because you needed some time alone. You don't look so alone to me.
Elena: Matt, you don't understand. It's—
Matt: That's okay, Elena. You do what you have to do. I just want to let you know that...I still believe in us. And I'm not giving up on that.
Elena: Matt...
Caroline: Hey! There you are. Have you been down to the falls yet? Because they are really cool at night. And I can show you...if you want.
Stefan: I think you've had too much to drink.
Caroline: Well, of course I have. So—
Stefan: Caroline. You and me, it's not gonna happen. Sorry.
"Funny how wrong that was," Aiden snorted.
"You shouldn't have been so harsh on her Steffie. Living in Elena's shadow can make anyone like that," Lucy said defending Carebear.
"How did this come back to me?" Elena asked confused.
"For some reason I still don't get and nor do I think I ever will, boys used to look at you first, you were always first priority, always their first choice, and Caroline was left on the sidelines, even though she is so much better in every possible way," Lucy said and Klaus silently agreed.
"How is that my fault?" Elena asked angry.
"Did I blame you? All I said was that Carebear had to live in your shadow for so long, and that's why she wanted Steffie so badly because then it'd be the first time someone chose her over you, which should happen anyway. I mean, have you met her, she's gorgeous, adorable, sweet, kind and basically a ray of sunshine," Lucy said gushing about one of her favourite characters. Klaus was once again agreeing with everything she was saying because those were the aspects that appealed to him, that had interested him. Her beauty, her kindness and her light that just might balance out his darkness.
"Thanks Lucy," Caroline said happily with a bright smile on her face, she's never been complimented so much before and she's never felt so confident in herself.
"No problem Carebear, I was just speaking the truth. When I first saw you I thought you looked like a real life version of a Barbie Doll, you're just gorgeous." Lucy complimented her.
"You're calling me the doll? Have you seen yourself in the mirror?" Caroline asked.
"I'd much rather not," Lucy muttered under her breath but considering most of them were supernatural, they heard it anyway. Caroline just stayed quiet at that as she remembered what she had seen before, she could understand what she meant but she had to know that despite the scars she was beautiful. Kol was thinking along the same lines, she was gorgeous despite what had happened to her and no scar could ever change that, not for him.
"I'm sorry Caroline. Lucy's right. I shouldn't have said that so harshly," Stefan said apologetically after a moment of silence.
"No it's ok. I was being too much," Caroline said waving it off.
"Still, I feel bad," Stefan said furrowing his brows in guilt for hurting her because it was clear on her younger self's face that she had been hurt by his comment.
"Don't. It's fine. I've gotten over it," Caroline smiled at him reassuringly and he smiled back at her not noticing Elena glaring at the two of them looking at each other like that before Lucy played the memory.
