Chapter 15

It was dark. Very dark. Nothing could be seen in the unlit hallway. Nothing could be heard. It was tunnel of emptiness. The young man continued his silent journey through the dark building. He silently avoided every obstacle. He was not far from his destination. Just a few more turns and he would be there. He just hoped nothing went wrong. He placed his hand up in a fist signaling to halt. He pulled out a small mirror then looked around the corner. His partner wondered how he could see anything in it considering how dark it was. He turned then nodded. After giving the signal to move they proceeded around the corner. After traveling about halfway there was another hallway down the middle. There it was the door they were looking for. After making sure everything was definitely clear they moved forward. He gave two more signals before continuing to pick the lock. His partner looked confused. But because of the necessary silence keeping watch was better than asking any questions. A noise couldn't even be heard as the lock was picked, and the door opened. They silently made their way inside the small crack of an opening silently closing the door behind them.

The shorter of the two removed the beanie, and mask to relieve herself of some the heat. Her blue hair fell in a wave downward. Taking a deep breath she wiped her face with her sleeve. "Jeez it's hot in here. It's spring it's unusually hot today, but don't they use air conditioning." Kaname made sure to keep her voice low. She turned to see her partner had removed his face cover as well. Instead of taking a moment to breathe he was going through folders.

Without saying another word Kaname began to search through other ones. They were searching for about half an hour when they heard someone approaching the room. Sousuke quickly placed his folders back, as did Kaname. They heard the footsteps approaching the room getting closer. She hid under the large desk in the middle. Sousuke took a hiding place by the door but one that would give him the ability to hide still.

The door slowly creaked open. Sousuke watched as a medium sized figure stepped in. He was carrying something. A large weapon. A rifle perhaps. It was thin the bottom looked to be bristled. Sousuke pointed his gun at the offending figure. He did not fire or make a sound just watched for any suspicious movement. After about 30 seconds the figure left the room. 2 minutes after that Sousuke stepped from his hiding place to get Kaname.

"Come on, we don't have much time. He may return." After helping Kaname out from under the desk he began to search the other folders he hadn't looked through. There luckily wasn't much left. Kaname had finished her side so she decided to keep watch. She was using an optic cable Sousuke had brought to look through the door. She still wondered how he could see anything but all she would have to look for was a flashlight. She realized she didn't see any light before when the person entered so why would she see one now. Did that person not have one for a reason? This place has plenty of money to buy those Kaname brushed it away as she continued her vigilant watch. She took a moment to check the time. She lit her small flashlight toward her wristwatch. It was 10:00 pm. late for someone to be here. Even Janitors should be gone by now. There were about 8 janitors so this place was cleaned up quickly. No one should be here now.

Kaname jumped when she felt something tap her shoulder. She turned to see Sousuke had the folder they wanted in his hands. He had also left a gift for the next person to open any folders in the room. After quickly donning their proper disguise equipment they silently crept from the room. They slowly made their way back the path they took. Suddenly they heard someone coming from behind them. Sousuke pulled Kaname down then watched as the person returned down the hall they came from back towards the room. Sousuke sighed in missions you can calculate everything but the human factor. They continued on their way out. Suddenly a loud explosion could be heard behind them, then what seemed like screaming. The fire alarm and ceiling sprinklers went off.

"You didn't..."

Before she could finish Sousuke grabbed her wrist and began pulling towards the exit. They were running at a fast pace practically sprinting. Kaname said nothing more when Sousuke felt she could keep up he released her wrist, and let her run on her own. They finally reached the window they used for entrance then exited, and closed it leaving no trace of their existence here other then the present that wasn't meant to go off yet. He wondered why someone would go into the file but that didn't matter now. He could hear sirens approaching so they had to get away. He didn't worry about cameras catching them considering it was dark, and he had disabled the system before.

Once they were about 2 blocks away they hid in a small park inside a children playground one of the large round ones that were painted with an animal and had a few holes leading in. Kaname was breathing rapidly. She was trying to take deep breaths. Sousuke was calm. He placed the folder into a plastic container.

"Aren't you going to read it? Kaname was still breathing a little deeply but she had it under control. "Negative, we were told only to retrieve it. Also I'm sure his Excellency will show us the contents later."

"But he never said we couldn't look." Kaname inched closer to Sousuke. He looked at the container. Kaname had a point. But he did not like to break the trust of his employer. He decided he could wait.

"We will see it later I promise. I'll ask personally. For now we need to escape." Sousuke began to stand up when he noticed Kaname was still sitting. He crouched over to her.

"Kaname is something wrong?" He pulled out a small light then checked her pupil. She quickly closed her eyes then slapped the light.

"Hey that hurt. You shouldn't just point things in people eyes. Hmmphf!" She crossed her arms then looked away.

"I'm sorry I was just checking your condition." Sousuke sat back down.

"I'm sorry I snapped at you. The adrenaline and all is getting to me. You know I say we did pretty good." Kaname raised her nose in triumph.

"Yes in fact you did perfectly. It would have been a completely successful mission had that person not set off the explosives early." Kaname suddenly felt dread.

"Explosives, that's right. Sousuke you didn't you know, kill anybody did you?" Kaname felt a chill run up her spine.

"No Kaname, merely stun explosives, and a biological chemical that would destroy the rest of the documents in the room, and not harm a person."

"Oh." Kaname lifted her legs then wrapped her arms around them and rest on her knees.

"We make a good team Kaname. This reminds me of the first time we escaped Officer Wakana. Though we partially failed in our mission then we were still successful."

Kaname looked at him through the darkness a light smile on her face.

"Yeah we were weren't we?" She moved closer then leaned her head on Sousuke shoulder.

"Affirmative, I must also compliment on your stealth skills. You were very quiet, even when we had to escape in a hurry. You athletic skills are very useful. I do not believe any of my partners or the captain would have done better." Sousuke swallowed. He realized his mistake. He wasn't supposed to mention Tessa. Maybe since he said captain she would let him go. She did the exact opposite. She took his statement as the compliment it was and wrapped her arms around him. Sousuke slowly removed her from him.

"Come we must go. We cannot stay too long. However walking around at night in this closing may catch suspicion, and there are probably officers going around in search of us, I can here various sirens at different locations. Did you bring your change of clothes?"

Kaname pulled out a shirt, and long skirt from her bag.

"Ok we need to change." Sousuke began pulling his clothes out of his bag, and began removing his current attire.

Kaname watched silently a blush on her face before she turned around. What did he think he was doing changing his clothes in front of her like that?

"You know you should make sure the other person isn't looking when you change your clothes."

"Uhh." Sousuke blushed she wasn't looking now but he realized the point of her suggestion. He quickly finished changing then pulled out a pre-soaked rag to clear his face of the camouflage make-up. "I'm done." He quickly replaced his dark clothes in the bag.

He turned towards Kaname. She had already begun changing.

"Uhh." Kaname sill hadn't noticed she was turned around and trying to get her shirt on. After a few seconds she was successful. "Okay done lets go." She turned to find Sousuke wasn't there.

"Kaname I am out here." Kaname quickly exited through one of the holes in the side of the large piece of playground equipment. Sousuke had placed the container in the bag now slung across his shoulder.

"Let's go." Kaname wrapped her arm around Sousuke's and they exited the park. Sousuke kept looking around. He was listening for any sirens that came close. Even if they weren't recognizable not that anyone saw them, the cops could be trying to stop anyone close by. He knew he, and Kaname would be safe. It was a little past ten. So Tokyo still had plenty of people out. They would look like they were just out for a stroll.

He listened as a cop car began to approach. He changed his path so he could avoid the officer even seeing them. He and Kaname were hidden in a small alleyway when the car passed by. "Sousuke are we going to do this every time a car comes by?"

Sousuke looked around before exiting the alleyway. "Negative, just tonight. Being seen by an officer would be bad period. Having them check the bags would be really bad. Failing the mission would be worse. Putting you in more danger then I have already would be the worst." Sousuke continued his steady stroll down the sidewalk.

Kaname blushed then clung tighter to his arm. "Thank you." She said in an almost inaudible whisper.

"It's not a problem." Sousuke had still heard her. He turned to her. He wasn't smiling but he looked to be in a better mood. He suddenly gripped her hand as they continued down the street. "Would you like to take the train?" Sousuke pointed at the near-by station. Kaname smiled then pulled him along. "No walking is fine."

"Want to eat while were out?" Kaname looked around. They had entered a road with plenty of restaurants.

"But shouldn't we get back as soon as possible. I promise we will eat another time."

Kaname stopped in front of him. "But I'm hungry."

Sousuke looked around. He figured it wouldn't too bad to stop and eat though he did not want to risk it.

"We can quick order."

"No I want to eat inside." Kaname looked somewhat childish now.

Sousuke quickly thought up a solution.

"How about we quick order. Go to my apartment. Let me get my things. Then I will spend the night and morning with you at your apartment. That seems to be an efficient compromise."

Without answering Kaname took step next to him then began walking. "Pick a fast place."

-Tuatha de Danaan-

"So how'd it go?" Melissa tossed another beer as she finished her sentence. Tessa was still sipping her soda. They were in the 'hot tub' again.

"How did what go?" Tessa turned to look at Melissa. "The thing with you brother." Melissa popped the tab on another beer.

"Oh. Well he is going to join, but there are a lot of rules around it. A lot of rules. So many rules I…"

"Okay I got it." Melissa lifted her beer to take another drink. "I'm curious. With all this new stuff why are they letting your brother join Mithril? He was the bad guy, how can he be trusted so quickly?"

Tessa flinched at the end. "He can be trusted. He is my brother, and I asked for a chance for him not to be a prisoner. I did not expect him to be given the opportunity to join us. I am pleased he agreed though. The interrogation also went well. He told us plenty. He will be interrogated again of course to find any mishaps in his answers, and to get more information, but he'll be okay." Tessa took another drink of her soda when she was surprised by a splash of water. "Hey!"

Melissa laughed. "Calm down your bathing in the stuff. So you're happy with your brother. So what you gonna do about Sousuke? You gonna try to get him back. How's your probation going? C'mon tell me everything." Melissa took another drink as she walked over to Tessa.

Tessa lowered her head. She couldn't see Sousuke not now anyway. She was also fairly certain he was with Kaname now. "I don't know. I still have 2, and a half weeks of probation. Sagara-san isn't with us anymore. He's…" Suddenly a knock came at the door. Then a more then eager Kurz Weber rushed in. He quickly stood at attention saluting.

"Tessa-chan someone is here to see you!" His eyes roamed over the two naked women in front of him. They were submerged but this was better than nothing. Melissa began launching waves of cans at his groin, and head. They were empty but from Melissa still packed a punch.

"KURZ!"

"Will be forced to wash the clothes of the other men on board this submarine for the next week!" Tessa said before she finished her drink, and threw her can at him missing anyway.

"Bu-But!"

"Get out before I kick your butt!" Melissa had a towel around her as she walked towards Kurz. He took a moment to stare before she flattened a can on his crotch. She quickly dressed then dragged him out of the wash area.

"Tessa you should go see who's here to see you!" Melissa called back as she continued to drag Kurz down the hallway.

"Ahh! I forgot!" Tessa quickly jumped out dressed then walked as fast as she could toward the hangar.

Tessa finally reached the hangar. "Right this way ma'am" The soldier saluted before leading her farther towards a newly docked helicopter. She saw an unfamiliar person standing there. He was looking at his watch.

"She's here!" one of the workers called as she approached. When the man turned she turned red. He had perfectly white teeth. (So do most anime characters.) His hair was a bright red pulled back with a series of small spikes. He had one thin bang across his face. He wore a uniform similar to Mardukas just with less merits. He saluted when he noticed her. "Hello Tessa-dono."

"Hello." Tessa collected herself before finishing approaching him. She looked at Mardukas who was next to him, then back to the young man. She noticed Mardukas giving him a hard stare then realized why. Mardukas was overprotective. She had no doubt this man was a boy, about 17or 18 years old.

"William Alexander McNeil at your service!" Tessa quickly realized his reason for being here. He was to attempt at being a replacement for Kalinin. Adrian was still here so she would have 3 guys blowing air at her back. Right now that didn't sound like a bad idea to her with this new recruit. Suddenly she felt a strange feeling about her.

"You're whispered."

"Yes, my skill like yours makes me good with submarines." He smiled at her.

"Oh yeah please, every one calls me Mac." He took a moment to look around the hangar. He stopped when he came face to face with Mardukas.

"Yipes! Did I do something wrong?" He kept looking from Mardukas to Tessa.

"No that's alright, that's Commander Mardukas, he's very protective. If you come with me I'll show you around." Tessa smiled as she began to lead the new officer around.

"What the?" He caught a glimpse of a purplish-black haired woman pulling a blonde man along the floor. He was holding his groin area. He swore he could make out the words 'shit, pervert' and some other profanities.

-Jindai High school-

"Good job. This is excellent. Here take a look." Hayashimizu handed Kaname the folder. It didn't matter to her anymore. She slept particularly well last night, and woke up just as well this morning. After ordering food, taking it home and eating it. Sousuke gathered his stuff then they headed to her apartment. They watched another movie. A sweet one that Kaname wanted to see. Then with a little hesitation at first she got a lot of snuggling time with Sousuke, they had kissed and it became a little more. They didn't do anything else. She was still tired. She eventually settled on a lot of snuggling before she finally fell asleep. She had forgotten about the folder.

As it turns out there little excursion last night was to retrieve stolen files from another school, then destroy the rest of the information in the room. If they didn't have copies Jindai would be okay. Hayashimizu was making sure someone found out. This wasn't the first time they had to sneak into other schools to collect stolen information, they did it 3-4 times a night but they separated at the end except for last night. They had done it enough times that they were quite good at it. They took different precautions in removing information so that no one would point at Jindai. So far no one had.

Sousuke took the paper. "Jindai test scores soar. Cheaters loom in the darkness. Is this true? Though I have caught others cheating, I did not suspect it was a majority of the school."

"It is not Mr. Sagara, that paper is a lie that's why we have you retrieve them. I am well aware of the academic level of most of our students, it is quite well mostly. What concerned me was your new ability to excel, though you still lack understanding in classical Japanese."

"I had plenty of time to work on things while I was gone." Sousuke lied he hadn't touched a book while he was gone, at least not a school text book. He was starting to think Hayashimizu was too smart for his own good. That lie should work however.

"I see. Well you two are clear for today. I hope you have the field trip next week set up."

"Almost." Kaname turned her head from the television. "We're still working on places. We have each one covered we just need to select where everyone wants to go. We're going to ask them tomorrow. Since today's only Wednesday we should have plenty of time."

"That's good. Hayahimizu-kun will be attending as well. May we see the locations as well?" Kaname was surprised by the difference in addressing each other, but only for a moment since Sousuke explained it the other day.

"Sure we'll bring it by later today after we get everyone else's opinion as well. After that we'll ask them again tomorrow what they think." Kaname turned to look at Sousuke. He was just standing there as everyone else held the conversation.

"How 'bout you Sousuke, you have an opinion on where to go, I mean you did pick some of the places."

Sousuke turned to her. "It's not a problem anywhere with no danger is fine."

"There always danger with you Sousuke." Kaname smiled and shrugged her shoulder raising her arms in one of those 'there's nothing you can do' gestures.

"That is true. I will try to be careful this time around. I realize it was indeed Mithril, and I that ruined the last trip in December aboard the Pacific Chrysalis."

"Well let's hope so. You two can go when you are ready. I'm sure your ordeal with selecting this trip will become rather disruptive when you return to the class."

Everyone nodded to each other before separating. Kaname swore she saw Ren leaning over to kiss Atsunobu as they left.

"Did you see that?" Kaname looked up at Sousuke. He had the knowing look on his face again, and it all became clear to her.

Kaname was explaining something about the field trip to Sousuke as they approached the classroom. Sousuke slid the door open.

"Hello Mr. Sagara will you be taking you make-up today." Mr. Fujisaki was holding up the test.

"Affirmative." Sousuke walked over to retrieve the test. When Sousuke returned to his seat the teacher walked up to him carrying a strange item. "This will keep you from cheating. There is a small camera that will let me see if you cheat using notes." Suddenly the teacher slammed down a light weight cubicle around Sousuke.

"Sousuke's just got back and he's already in prison." Ono-D and a few others chuckled at Sousuke's predicament. No one noticed the teacher walk out of the classroom. Suddenly loud claps could be heard as Kaname banged the pointer against the desk.

"Okay Everyone! Let's talk about the upcoming field trip. We need to pick a location; travel and expenses have been covered."

A girl raised her hand. "Will we be hi-jacked again?" the class began to laugh. The last experience was not as frightening like the first time, making them belittle the experiences.

"No, Sousuke has personally covered the travel." Some people looked reassured some people looked skeptical.

"Don't worry I helped select the way to travel, it's comfortable, private, and safe. If he knows what's good for him."

Sousuke though no one could see him was finding it hard to focus on the test. That last statement by Kaname was not reassuring.

"Does that mean we can have show-girls, and stuff." A bunch of guys patted another student on the back. The girls scowled at him.

"No! No one extra is allowed on board. Sousuke knows the pilots, the…" Kaname paused to think about staff.

"Sousuke."

Sousuke continued doing his test. Everyone turned to the box imprisonment.

"Sousuke."

He was down to a few questions left. He was concentrating so hard he wasn't listening to anything around him. Just a few more questions.

Suddenly the cardboard imprisonment was torn to pieces around him. Kaname was standing there harisen in hand.

"SOUSUKE!"

Sousuke wrote in the last answer before turning to Kaname. "Yes Chidori."

"Why were you ignoring me?" She shook her fist in his face.

"I apologize; I was trying to concentrate on the test. I am pleased to inform you that I have finished."

Kaname took a deep breath to calm down.

"Okay, I'm sorry I screamed at you." Everyone was shocked. Kaname apologized to Sousuke for just screaming.

"It is alright Chidori but don't you usually k-"

The harisen slammed his head into the desk. "BAKA!" Kaname glared at him as he lifted his head.

"Chidori what was…" he stopped when he realized his almost mistake.

FWAP! That didn't stop Kaname from hitting him again.

"Now as I was saying before. Sousuke what about refreshments and service. Since it's private will there be service."

Sousuke looked around the room. "Negative the money saved on this form of travel will allow you to purchase your own food supplies, and bring them on board the aircraft."

"Sake all around!" the boys called out. Everyone was pleased with the idea of their own food on board.

"Their will be plenty of bathrooms." Sousuke realized that would be necessary.

"Maybe we should get the guys some wine coolers for the trip, since that's all they can handle." The girls all broke out in laughter. It was the guys turn to scowl at them.

"Sagara-kun. Will it have ports for me to charge my pc? I'm really into this new sim game." Shinji was showing Sousuke the screen. The game was called Green Green.

"Affirmative you will be able to charge your game." Sousuke still couldn't understand those games. Though he was a little better he still failed. He thought the games were completely false because he hadn't done anything like that to get Kaname to be his… now that he thought of it he never referenced Kaname like that. He wouldn't do it now either. He didn't have a name for it but it didn't matter to him. But sure he would get dragged places and do things for her but it wasn't annoying like it was in the games.

Sousuke looked at Kaname. It was a strange look. Kaname blushed then turned away. She decided to just turn around then return to the front of the class.

"Okay so we pack our own food. But it will be completely safe, and private. Of course if it's not I'm sure after a lot of explosions and bullets we will be safe again. Right Sousuke?" She smiled at him. He nodded in return. "Roger."

"Now let's pick where everyone wants to go." Kaname pulled out a projector. She placed a disk into the computer it was attached to then opened a file. A series of pictures appeared on screen. "Okay pick a picture that looks interesting and we'll look at the information there. If that can't be done we'll look at them in order."

The first one showed an Island resort. Warm days, beach plenty of tourist attractions. The second showed an icy place. Others showed cities.

After going through a series of places Kaname turned back to the main screen.

"Or would everyone like to try Okinawa again." She looked around the class. The students were pondering ideas. They didn't have much time because of the jokes that were thrown around between places. She just hoped this didn't turn into a battle of sexes.

Suddenly in the silence of small whispers, and discussing a phone rang.

"Sagara speaking."

Kaname froze. She hoped Sousuke didn't have to leave again.

"You pick your place yet. You know you owe me for this." Travis called.

"Just remove one of the favors you owe me. It's not a problem. I have paid for some of travel as well as others. No the destination has not been decided, and most likely will not be confirmed until Friday. I will call you then."

"Fine. See ya later, unless you wanna speak to the munchkins."

Sousuke could here the sound of rushing voices in the background getting louder.

"Negative I am currently handling some business. I will speak to them later. Goodbye." Sousuke hung up and flipped down the phone.

Sousuke turned to Kaname. "That was our ride. He was attempting to confirm our destination. He has agreed to wait for the information. We may continue."

Kaname took a deep breath. "Well has anyone decided?"

"OKINAWA!" practically the whole class shouted. Kaname looked around, and with no nay-sayers they were set to go. The idea was comfortable considering they couldn't go there before plus Okinawa is known as the ideal place for a visit to Japanese citizens, and foreign tourists. Okinawa has plenty prefectures so they will have a lot of things to do.

Sousuke walked up to the desk, and placed his test on it.

"Chidori we should ask his Excellency and Mikihara if they agree immediately. That way the plans have more time to be prepared."

"Okay. But I should go. If Mr. Fujisaki sees you he may just fail your exam." With that Kaname was out the door. Sousuke turned around to find the students in an uproar the second any form of authority was gone. "Uhh…"

"Okay so what do you think? How about we finally make that trip to Okinawa, god knows the class deserves it." Kaname looked at both Ren, and Atsunobu. Getting a little dizzy from moving her head so much she stopped on Astunobu.

"That is perfect Miss Chidori. Okinawa is an excellent vacation area. I'm sure you have everything covered now. Also though I am not part of the class, the principal has asked me to come as time for R&R, the same with Mikihara-chan here. We look forward to it."

"Yes we would enjoy that very much. Also I need to know if you have a schedule or will we be doing this as we go?"

Kaname stood stiff. She had forgotten about planning. Being at Amalgam so long was ruining her. But she quickly thought up a logical excuse.

"We just decided on the place we'll work on the plan later. After all Okinawa is a big area."

Hayashimizu opened his fan. "You are correct. Forgive us I hope we are not pressuring you. We will leave this up to you. Have a good day Miss Chidori."

Hayashimizu nodded.

"Goodbye Kaname." Ren bowed. Kaname returned the gesture then walked out of the class room.

"AHHHH!" Kaname froze when she heard the combined screams coming from elsewhere in the school. "He didn't…" Kaname made a mad-dash for the classroom.

'I was right!' Kaname thought as she approached the classroom door. She tried to open the door but something was holding it closed. She could hear scratching, and banging on the other end of the door. She placed her ear against it. "Calm down you will be okay in a short while." Kaname heard a muffled version of Sousuke's voice.

"BAKA!" Kaname gripped the handle as hard as she could. She ripped the door the side with all the force she could muster.

"Sou-" Kaname coughed when she breathed in some sort of gas. Her eyes began to tear, and turn red. Her throat was starting to become scratchy. Her breathing became ragged.

"What…cough the hell? cough is going on?" Kaname looked into the classroom to see Sousuke standing on the desk with gas mask on his face.

"Chidori you should not have opened the door. I was trying to keep the substance contained. You should not be releasing it." Sousuke stepped off the desk, and walked over to Kaname.

"Chidori you breathed it in?" Sousuke quickly pulled Kaname away from the classroom. "Forgive me I did not notice before, the screaming students, and gas was blocking my view." Sousuke removed his mask then placed it on Kaname.

"Breath, this is concentrated pure air. It should help more then regular breathing."

Kaname took about 10 deep breaths. "Sousuke why did you do that?"

"Chidori, the class would not calm down after you left. I used a harassing agent similar to ones used by officers in crowd control. Fortunately I had one of the stronger agents that wear off quicker. Chlorobenzylidenemalononitrile to be precise. A common name for it is tear gas or CS. I'm sure I've told you about inhaling tear gas before Chidori. You should have been more careful."

A loud slap could be heard as the harisen came down on Sousuke's head. "Sousuke I didn't know you used tear gas, I just responded to hearing the class screaming for life."

Sousuke stood up then began checking her pulse.

"The agent will not cause any serious damage. It will not escape into the air vents, and affect others it will dissipate by then. I will retrieve the aerosol cans in a moment once I'm sure everything is safe."

Kaname wasn't paying much attention anymore. Though she was fortunate compared to her peers the agent was still strong. Kaname let out a surprised squeak when Sousuke lifted her into his arms. Though Sousuke couldn't see it behind the mask Kaname was blushing.

"Sou-Sousuke what are you doing?" She began trying to escape from his hold, but he kept a strong grip.

"I am taking you to the nurse's office. You did nothing to deserve this." Sousuke quickly carried Kaname to the office wanting to get back before the students got out of hand again. Suddenly it dawned on Kaname that Kyouko and Shinji were in there as well.

"Sousuke you did that to Kyouko, and the others!"

Sousuke did not look at her. "They were part of the disruption Chidori. It was necessary. Officers showing favorites among subordinates often caused problems. For example the way the captain acted towards me." Kaname was not happy hearing about the way Tessa treated him but she had built a friendly relationship with Tessa when they were both at Amalgam. Of course they often got into fights about their situation. They were still rivals in many aspects of life. The friendship was more of a necessity while being in Amalgam.

"OK." Kaname barely let out before she just let herself rest against Sousuke's chest. She removed the mask then looked up at him. "Sousuke I don't tell you this much but… thank you."

This time Sousuke stopped. He looked down at Kaname. He didn't understand why but those words meant a lot. He never cared about not being thanked for his service in Mithril, or that the world would never know what he did, or that he even existed, that still didn't matter. In fact many times he wondered how anyone knew his regular name, and how old he was. How would a war zone have his name, the only one that made sense was his assassin name as Kashim. Despite all that, those words stopped him cold. 'Why' he kept replaying it in his head. He just kept looking at Kaname trying to find the reason he couldn't move. Suddenly his lips began to move.

"Thank you Kaname." They were low almost in audible but she heard them. For some reason she began to get teary-eyed. 'Why am I getting all choked up' she thought. She didn't have the same reason to be affected. In fact she had no reason she knew of. But those words meant almost as much to her as they meant to him. She doubted just as he did that it was because he wanted to be recognized for his talents. They both knew that was completely wrong. This feeling lied in a deeper level of the soul they had not yet discovered.

Sousuke noticed the tears beginning to form in her eyes. She couldn't be crying from the gas. It was hard to focus on considering he was dealing with unfamiliar feeling right now. He wanted to disregard it and continue taking Kaname to the nurse but he couldn't help it. He couldn't move.

"Are-cough… Are we missing…cough are we missing something?" Ono-D along with most of the class had decided the clinic would also be best. They were slowly staggering down the hall when they finally caught up with them.

"Cough…Kana-chan…" Kaname flinched when she heard Kyouko's scratchy voice.

"Sousuke let me down." Kaname whispered so only he could hear her. She wiped the tears from her face on her sleeve before stepping past Sousuke.

Sousuke immediately turned toward the class.

"I'm sure everyone has learned their lesson. The nurse's office is not far if anyone needs…"

"Learned our lesson!" the class shouted in perfect chorus before Sousuke could finish his sentence. "You hit us with tear gas!" Suddenly a dark aura began to form around the group of students.

"Uhh…"

Sousuke slowly stepped back. His natural defensive instincts being blocked by his knowledge that they were all just civilians.

'I'm' he took another step back. The class took another step closer. 'going to' he slowly began to turn. Kaname watched as Sousuke prepared for his escape. The dark aura emanating from the students reminded her of the day he was their model.

Sousuke full turned and ran. 'DIE!' Soon the class was after him. Kyouko stayed with Kaname.

"So what was that about? I mean you and Sousuke." Kaname didn't turn to Kyouko. Instead she watched as Sousuke and the mob behind him disappeared around a corner.

"You know we still haven't said it yet." Kaname turned and smiled at Kyouko's confused face.

"Kana-chan…" Kyouko absent mindedly pulled up her camera and took a picture of Kaname.

"Come on let's go see the nurse before everyone gets back." Kaname began walking, Kyouko right next to her.

Kaname sat in the student body association room. She was watching Love Hina. She turned when she heard the door to the room open.

"All the students were sent home early. I was sent too but chose to stay." Sousuke was covered in bruises, dirt; some remnants of rope were on him. He also had scratches. All together he had a nice assortment of wounds.

"Sousuke are you ok?" Kaname didn't get up. Despite that she was watching TV. She was mostly focusing on her thoughts from earlier. She knew he would be ok.

"Yes Sagara you don't seem to be in any shape to be here." Hayashimizu rose and walked over to Sousuke.

"Are you certain you wish to stay?" Hayashimizu examined Sousuke's face.

Ren was already opening a first aid kit on the table.

"I am fine. I have been through much worse." Sousuke picked off remaining pieces of rope, and wiped himself down. He refused Ren's offer when she tried to tend to his wounds.

"The security measures are working perfectly." Sousuke added as he sat down. He had tripped a few. Luckily for him so did some other students so it slowed their pace. That didn't keep them from eventually getting him. It was similar to when the class chased him for using the Full Monty Virus.

"That's good to hear. I heard you two will be working on plans for the trip later. I hope they will not involve this kind of action." Hayashimizu was behind his desk again.

"Negative, this was an accident. I was caught off guard in the hallway due to unforeseen circumstances." Sousuke thought back to what happened with Kaname in his arms.

"Chidori it was also recommended you go home too. Why did you choose to stay?" Kaname was caught off guard now. She hadn't expected to be asked that. She scratched her cheek with her finger and looked to the side.

"Well heh… actually I umm… just wanted to stay no reason actually. I guess I should go now I'm tired anyway." Kaname grabbed her bag then headed to the door.

"Bye see you guys tomorrow." Kaname waved as she left the room. She closed the door then walked faster then usual towards the school's nearest exit. She walked faster with each step until she was almost running. She stopped on a bench outside of the sight of the school to rest.

"I don't understand." Kaname slowly leaned to the side. She sighed when her head rested on something. "Huh." Kaname sat up then looked to her side.

"Are you ok Kaname? You seem tired. Your face is also red. Perhaps you do have a circulatory problem. Is that what you don't understand?" Sousuke was sitting with his arms crossed.

Kaname was not in the mood to hit him now. Instead she scooted closer then rested her head on him again. "No. I was thinking about earlier."

"Yes that particular incident has been on my mind frequently since then. I do not understand my reaction."

"Me neither Sousuke."

"I noticed you were beginning to cry but you should not have been crying. The agent would not have that affect on you anymore."

Kaname sighed then moved her hand onto his lap. He closed his fingers around her hand.

"It wasn't because of that Sousuke. For some reason what you said made me feel…"

Kaname still couldn't describe it.

"I do not know why I was affected that way by your words either. I do not know how to describe how I felt."

They just sat in silence for awhile. Her hand was still in his.

Kaname slowly began to drift. Her consciousness becoming less aware to her.

Sousuke looked down at Kaname. He noticed her breathing had become soothed. He realized she had fallen asleep. He was going to wake her up instead he carried her. He loaded her onto his back.

"I will need to think on this for awhile." Sousuke hailed the first taxi that came by about 2 blocks after he started. He gently placed her in the seat then sat next to her. He had the driver stop 3 blocks form her apartment then he removed her then loaded her on his back again. He paid the fare then watched until the taxi was out of sight before he continued walking.

He unlocked the door and walked into her apartment. He gently placed her in her bed then covered her. He had no doubt she would wake up later. But he would let her rest now. He locked the door then walked into the kitchen.

One hour later Kaname woke up. When she looked at her clock she realized she was home, and that it was dinner time. She walked out to find Sousuke asleep on the couch. She planned on making herself something to eat. She walked into the kitchen to find a note, and some food. After warming it and eating it she returned to her room. She grabbed a quilt then returned to the living room. She kissed forehead before lying down next to him, and covering them both. She placed her arm over his chest. She was surprised when Sousuke's arms went around her. She noticed he was still asleep, and giggled at his automatic response. She rested her head on his shoulder before finally falling back asleep.
