Chapter 17

"Kashim…"

Sousuke's eyes shot open his hand reaching for the gun under his pillow. He stopped when he felt something holding him. He slowly removed his hand from his weapon, and returned it to its former position. He turned to look down at his blue haired angel. Her face was perfectly lit by the morning light leaking in through the windows. A gold aura surrounding her sleeping figure. Her face was content, her lips turned up slightly in a smile portraying her joy. Even with her eyes closed Sousuke couldn't help but lose himself staring at her. He gently pulled a fallen strand of hair from her face. She shifted a bit before moving closer to him. He listened as she let out a small sweet sound. He lightly ran his thumb across her lips. He was surprised by how soft they were. He looked at the clock it was a little past six explaining the weak rays of light. He was content to lie there all day if necessary but they had plans for the rest of the class. Luckily that wasn't until nine. He returned his gaze to the girl sleeping beside him. He wondered how this happened. He was just a soldier before. No a mercenary. He spent his life on battlefields, and then turned Tokyo into one. He never had peace in his life, and yet this silent sleeping form took that away. She took away his war, took away the strife, and killing. She gave him the peace he did not realize existed. He believed he would always fight, always stand on a battlefield. Somehow unknown to him since the first day he met her she was easing it all away. He once even thought of throwing everything away just to be with her, but he couldn't do that to her. He knew she needed the life she had now, the love, and friendship. He could leave all that he'd done it many times. He could even go on without her if necessary. But he knew he didn't want to. He regretted not being able to do more for her or give her more; he regretted most how he failed her. She said it was okay. He doubted that it but it was good to hear anyway. He turned his head to the ceiling.

'This can't go on. This is my fault, and she'll have to know…' Sousuke closed his eyes as he tried to remove his negative thoughts, now he would prefer to think of other things. He was successful when he felt something warm pressing against his lips. He didn't even open his eyes he just placed his arms around her, and returned the favor. When she pulled back he opened his eyes. Her hair was right next to his face hanging down from over her shoulder. Her eyes were half open but he could still see the emotion in those beautiful chocolate orbs. He placed one hand on her cheek before sliding it behind her neck pulling her closer. He kissed her again this time using his tongue. After about 2 seconds he gained his acceptance. He deepened the kiss a little when he lifted his head so she could wrap her arms around his neck. He still didn't understand why he would do this but he didn't care. He was told he always thought too much, he still did.

Kaname slowly rose from their kiss. Her eyes watching as he slowly opened his.

"Ohayo Sousuke." Then she smiled. Sousuke enjoyed the sound of his name when it came from her. The way she would look at him caused his heart to stop a moment which he would usually check himself later for circulatory or respiratory problems. The smile also made him feel strange, so he smiled in return.

"Ohayo Kaname." She looked into his deep grey eyes. Most grey eyes were considered to be a slight blue color not an actual grey, but his were a grey that came from black. She placed her hand on his cheek then rubbed her finger across his scar. He gripped her hand then lied her back down. Her head rested on his chest. Kaname thought about how she felt. She was worried she couldn't say three words. Her façade was to keep people from getting too close which often failed. She cared about her friends, especially Kyouko, but with Sousuke she failed completely. She remembered how she felt when she thought he died. The feeling of hope left her. The feeling of abandonment when she lost her mother came on even stronger. She thought about suicide but knew he wouldn't want that, it was a thought that only lasted a second realizing even thinking about it a little more then that would prove her weak. Also it would be pretty bad to do that with him still alive. She focused on that thought. He was alive, and with her. She thought about the strange conversation they had last night. She would try to figure it out or ask him about it later. The point is he made the promise. She knew he wouldn't break his promise, not unless she wanted him too, which she knew she never would. She listened to his heart beat, and felt the rise, and fall of his chest as he breathed. She could feel his chest was strong, and so was his stomach. These thoughts brought her back to his scars. She turned her head up, and rested her chin on the back of her hands. He noticed so he put an extra pillow under his head to help hold it up.

"Is something wrong Kaname would you like me to check the security system?" Sousuke turned to grab a small device on the side table.

"No Sousuke." Sousuke stopped then looked back at her. "Then what is the…"

"Let me see your scars Sousuke." Kaname said it flatly making sure he knew what she wanted instead of beating around the bush. Sousuke looked away. "I would prefer not too Kaname."

Kaname grabbed his shoulders to pull herself closer to his face. They noticed the feel of her rubbing across his body but they each struggled to ignore it.

"Why not? I've seen them before, unless you have new ones."

"Affirmative."

Kaname starting tapping his chin with her finger. "Please. You said you trust me so come on you don't tell me other things so you could at least do this, you're scars never bothered you before." Sousuke was surprised by this. He should have figured she'd use logic so he would see it her way, if that didn't work she always had that harisen somewhere.

"Ok." Sousuke pulled her off of him as he sat up. Kaname rose to sit as well. She watched as he removed his shirt. He had on a T-shirt as well but she could see the strength of his shoulders, and back muscles even in the dim light. She could also see new and old scars along his arms. Her eyes went wide when he removed his final shirt. Her appreciation, turned into worry. She slowly ran her finger across a scar reaching from his right shoulder in a slant down all the way down his back. She also noticed two more jagged scared across each shoulder blades. It looked as if wings were ripped out. She followed 2 more large scars across his side until she was staring at his bare chest, and stomach. He had a scar in his shoulder which was obviously from a bullet. She lightly traced where he had been injured for her in Khanka.

"Oh Sousuke." She would ask questions later first she would show him she cared. She wrapped her arms around him as she wept into his chest. She could smell his scent as she cried. Sousuke could feel the tears streaming down his chest. They were warm. He didn't know what to do. He felt similar to when he was in Khanka. When she stopped him cold, while he pointed a gun in her face. He really regretted that but that was in the past. He couldn't figure anything out. All he could tell was she was there. That she cared. He raised his arms to hold her. Her arms were wrapped around his upper arms so he could only hold her so much but he held her. He lowered his head to rest on hers. The sweet smell of her hair entering every breath he took. He placed his hand under her chin then lifted her to meet him. His kiss was more fierce then usual, hungry. As if his primal side was asking for her. He wrapped his arms around her the wrapped hers around his neck as he pulled her on top of him to lie on the bed.

Kaname was surprised by Sousuke's sudden ferocity. She returned the kiss after a few seconds then let him in when his tongue prodded again. She returned the kiss an unknown force enveloping her. She found herself testing his features as she ran her hand over his chest, and stomach, then along his back. She was even more surprised when he rolled them over. She was suddenly worried being under him. As good as this seemed this was too much. She was about to push him away but as if he read her mind he leapt off of her. He grabbed his head as he sank to the floor.

"Sousuke what's wrong?" Kaname quickly rushed to his side, all thoughts of pushing him away were forgotten. She watched as his eyes shot open. They were a solid crimson color. No difference in the iris or pupil. The white of his eye was glowing with a fit of different colors. Slowly the crimson faded into a grey. Still no difference in the iris and pupil but it was grey. Kaname watched she was worried, and angry that she couldn't do anything. She placed her hand on his back; she noticed his muscles were going through spasms. She watched as his hair began to move on its own it started fluttering a little as if it was caught by some wind. Then as suddenly as it started it was over. Blood shot from Sousuke's mouth as he fell to the floor panting for air.

"Sousuke are you alright?" Kaname had his head in her hands; she watched his face as he breathed. He looked weak. She'd never seen him like this before. She held his head against her chest then let him rest on her lap.

"I'm alright Kaname it is not a problem." Sousuke sat up as if nothing had happened. He wiped his mouth with a napkin from the table. When he turned around Kaname's face was but an inch from his.

"Go take a bath, I'll order some room service then you can explain it to me over breakfast." Kaname did not mean to be rude or insensitive but if Sousuke said he was okay, she would listen this time.

"But Kaname." Kaname didn't respond she just stared at him. Though she was trying to look angry, worry, and fear was in her eyes. Sousuke watched her eyes carefully. The fear he saw was different from what he had seen recently. It was for him not from him. Sousuke only looked a moment more before rising.

"I will take a shower." Kaname smiled at him as he gathered his things before heading into the shower. Kaname walked over to the phone and ordered room service. One of the reasons they picked this hotel was for 24 hour room service, however they would not tell the others that because she knew they would push their luck with it, she was already pushing her luck spending her first night here in Sousuke's suite. She tidied up the bed, and picked up Sousuke's shirts as she waited. She was worried. She had no idea what was wrong with him but she was sure to find out. She would have preferred sleeping in but she was glad she didn't. This was important. At least to her.

30 minutes later Sousuke was out of the shower. He was dressed in the school uniform. He didn't say anything as he retrieved his gun from under his pillow.

"Ok Sousuke explain."

"There is nothing to explain Kaname. As I stated before I went through experiments. The scars are from battles…"

"Not that Sousuke about what happened with you a while ago. Your eyes went crazy, as well as you. Pervert." Kaname's hands her hands on her hips but she added that last part with a bit of humor.

"I understand. I have no explanation for that. It happens to me at random. Different symptoms happen each time. The time when I was overly cold was the symptom that day. I believe I would have preferred that compared to what just took place." Sousuke was referencing his actions towards Kaname.

Kaname walked up, and stared him in the eyes. "Are you lying?"

"Negative."

"Then make me one more promise."

Sousuke didn't respond.

"Sousuke."

"I will only agree depending on the circumstances of this promise."

"Fine. You must promise to tell me if anything is wrong. If this happens again you will tell me, you will not run away from me, and if you figure anything out you will eventually tell me about it. I won't force you to tell me right away."

He thought a moment that was a big promise, not as big as anything made last night but still big.

"Understood. I promise." Sousuke was standing at attention. He quickly switched to a defensive stance when the bell rang. "Room service."

Sousuke checked the peep hole before letting the young man in. He kept his hand on his gun behind his back as the boy unloaded the food. Sousuke locked the door when he left. He turned to the table of food.

Kaname was already eating her food. "Well aren't you gonna join me?"

--

-Kaname's suite-

Kaname snuck in as silently as she could. Luckily some of the things Sousuke had taught her actually came in handy. It was almost seven so it was still early. No one should be getting up for another half an hour to an hour. She checked to make sure her friends were asleep. Then snuck into her bed. Kyouko had decided to sleep in Kaname's bed. Kaname froze when she saw the flash go off. She sat up to find most of her friends around her. She heard the shower, and thought Ren must be in there.

"So how'd it go?" Mizuki was inching closer to Kaname desperate for details.

"Nothing happened so drop it."

"Yeah right." Mizuki crossed her arms but gave in when she received Kaname glare.

"Fine." She huffed as she walked into another bathroom.

"We're going to the beach today Kana-chan." Kyouko plopped herself down next to Kaname.

"So you gonna tell us what happened?"

Kaname hit her with a pillow before heading to her drawers grabbing some clothes then headed towards the bathroom.

-Highway in northern Osaka-

"I can't wait…" Ono-D was resting back on the large bus as it drove down the highway. They're first plans for the day was to go to a beach. Sousuke had a private part of the beach booked so the 50 students could use it freely. The groups were split into two groups of 75, and one of 50. Mr. Miura took his students to visit different historical sites, the first a copy of the grave of the only foreign samurai, William Adams or Anjin Miura. Though the real monument was on Hemi hill facing Japan he didn't have a scheduled trip all the way back to Japan. Ms. Futsuki took her kids to hike through a mountain area. What other plans they had were unknown to the other groups. Ono-D was just glad to be one of the first ones to the beach for some rest, relaxation, and ogling. Shinji actually let go of his laptop for the day. Most of the girls just wanted to have fun. Some of the guys did too. Ono-D looked for his friends who came on this ride. It was a large bus that somehow held everybody, once again courtesy of Sousuke. He was able to find Kaname along with her friends. He spotted Shinji sitting next to Hayashimizu as he held a conversation with Sousuke.

"Hey guys what's up?" Ono-D raised his hand in hello as he took the seat behind them.

"Hello Mr. Kotarou I hope you do not plan on causing trouble." Hayashimizu moved his glasses farther up his nose as he smiled at Ono-D.

"Who me? No way." Ono-D looked out the window noticing a large building built right next to the beach.

"What's with…?"

"That is a small complex built for the relaxation of the beach goers. We have private privilege to it." Sousuke answered Ono-D's half asked question.

"Wow Sagara-kun you really tried on this didn't you?" Shinji looked at Sousuke as if he were Santa Clause.

"It is to make up for past mistakes. Mostly to our immediate class."

"So Kana-chan you gonna wear your new bathing suit for Sousuke?" Kyouko took a picture when Kaname blushed.

"Yes I am going to wear it but not because of that military misfit. Hmmphf!" Kaname crossed her arms and turned her head. She was smiling, and was looking at Kyouko through the side of her eye.

"And Ren is wearing something new too right." The group of girls turned to there purplish haired friend. She turned red then turned to away. "Yes."

The girls laughed as the bus pulled to a stop in front of the beach side complex.

"Ok everyone stay in the area, meaning the beach or the building." Ms. Kagurazaka said as she stood. She checked that everyone was present as they exited the bus. A small group of people came out to greet the eager students.

"Hello, welcome to the beach side house. This is a relatively new building so it is still being tested. We will ask you to fill out some forms at the end of your visit; I hope that is not trouble." No one complained. After a few more introductions the students were led inside then shown around. After about 15 minutes the students were ready to change. The more arrogant boys stripped their clothes right there since they already wore their bathing suits. A few girls did as well, some of them doing it to tease the boys. After everyone finished they all headed towards the beach. Everyone changed even Ms. Kagurazaka, everyone except Sousuke, and Hayashimizu of course.

"Mr. Sagara why haven't you put on your swimsuit, don't tell me you forgot how to swim while you were gone."

"Negative ma'am however I do not feel it is necessary that I change my clothing."

Ms. Kagurazaka looked him once over before shrugging her shoulders, and continuing towards the beach. Kaname looked back at Sousuke a sad look in her eyes. She was sure she knew why he wouldn't change. She turned around then continued her walk with her friends. She had gotten a new bathing suit but she was not sure Sousuke would notice anyway.

She wore a suit a bit more racy then her last white bikini; this one however had a blue ocean like design on the right breast, and right side of her swimsuit bottom. She wore her yellow jacket over her swimsuit just like the day when she met Masatami Hyuga. Kyouko wore a two piece that was a full cover top, and the bottom was extended so it covered more. Mizuki wore a black 2 piece that was lined in red. Maya wore a green basic two piece. Ren wore a purple one piece that was open on the front, low on the back. Shiori wore a basic one piece in yellow.

"Yeah!" Before any of the main characters realized it the rest of the class was running at top speed towards the water.

"We just got here and everyone's going crazy. Sousuke you sure you don't want to come?" Kaname turned to Sousuke who was pocketing what she assumed was a grenade he had pulled the second the crowd ran.

"Affirmative, I am sure."

Kaname shrugged her shoulders before continuing with her friends. She wouldn't push him if he didn't want to. Today anyway.

About 10 minutes later the girls were playing in the water. Hayashimizu was reading his book in the shade taking occasional glances at Ren. Sousuke wore his school uniform as he watched over everyone on a lifeguard tower binoculars in hand.

-Tuatha de Danaan-

Tessa woke up later than usual. She had gone to sleep later than usual so it's expected.

"Oh my…I'm late!" Tessa quickly dressed grabbed some coffee then headed out the door. She actually kept from tripping all the way to the bridge. When she stepped in what she saw bothered her. "Mac what are you doing in the captain's chair!" Tessa didn't realize her mistake in calling Mac right there in front of the staff on duty, or especially with Mardukas there. It was too late for formalities now.

The red haired recruit turned to face Tessa. So did a sour looking Mardukas and a blank faced Adrian. His similarity to Kalinin still bothered her.

"I'm sure I told you yesterday. I'm here to test as a support captain as well. Test runs like this will happen often but don't worry I'm not taking your submarine." He gave her that warm smile of his before turning towards the front screen.

"Ok everyone control of this vessel is being turned over to Captain Teletha Testarossa." There was steel in his voice that Tessa hadn't heard before as he said those words. Tessa warily walked past him. He waved before he exited the room.

"Now it's time to look around." Mac whistled as he strolled down the corridor.

"So whatcha wanna do?" Kurz asked as he propped his feet up on the table. Melissa had left him and Lilliane to talk with Clouzot. Though they weren't doing anything before, Kurz antics and Melissa's cursing kept them busy.

"I don't know what do you want to do?" Lilliane smiled as she took a sip of her non-alcoholic beer.

Kurz grinned in delight. "I want to make you scream, and claw at my back begging for more." Kurz leaned back in his chair waiting for her response. He fell to the floor when a can of beer spilled of over him. After wiping his eyes he looked up to find her standing there shaking the last four cans of a six pack above him.

"Melissa's gonna kill me." Lilliane said before pulling the tab off each one drowning an already drenched Kurz.

"What do you think Bel?" Melissa watched the man beating the punching bag she was holding for him. His eyes were focused on the bag but she could tell he was listening.

"Well you, and Kurz can go to Jindai whenever just as support, or for vacation. It isn't as though we have anything major to do nowadays." Clouzot finally finished his inanimate opponent.

"That's not the point he can't just be watched."

"I'm sure she'll watch him."

Melissa smirked then grabbed herself another beer. "She'll do more than watch him. Want one?" Clouzot quickly refused her offer.

"It's not like we know anything about it, you're just going on women's intuition."

"Yeah, and that's better than nothing, or listening to testosterone based pride!" Melissa threw an empty can at him which he easily flicked away.

"How's the captain?"

"Fine." Melissa tilted her head as she took another drink.

Mac was walking down the corridor that led to the engines. Tessa hadn't actually taken him inside. He looked around before approaching the door. It annoyed him that he hadn't been here but it was in the back of his head a lot. He didn't understand why he just couldn't see it. He was already familiar with the submarines specs. He slid his card through small wall device then gripped the handle to open the door. He was annoyed because he already had clearance but still hadn't been here. He took a deep breath as he opened he door.

"Boo…" Mac stepped back when he saw the silver haired man. His face was calm, and cool as if nothing bothered him. His bluish-grey eyes staring at Mac.

"Who are you?" Mac was able to keep his voice calm.

Leonard smiled then gave the man in front of him a once over.

"I am Leonard Testarossa, you are William Alexander McNeil I presume." Leonard held his hand out. Mac instantly realized the resemblance between him and Tessa once he introduced himself. "Call me Mac." He said as he gripped Leonard's hand.

"It's good to meet you Mac but if you don't mind I must be going." Leonard gave him one more look before walking away. Mac took a deep breath as he watched the young whispered walk away. " Jeez." He blew out his breath before entering and closing the door behind him.

"Mac huh…" Leonard placed his hands in his pockets as he walked down the submarine hallway. He would need to check in with his supervisor soon.

"Why wasn't I informed that he took the seat?" Tessa was angry but not so much since she knew it wasn't a big deal. She was just worried of someone else handling Dana. Or her submarine at all.

"We did not feel it was necessary Captain, besides you needed your rest."

Mardukas kept his face focused on the screen but his eyes kept glancing at Tessa to see if he could tell just how mad she was.

"It's ok, I'll deal with it. Commander Gurevich Status report."

"Aye Ma'am. Currently to make it simple all systems are running at optimum efficiency."

He handed her a small clipboard.

"Thank you."

-Osaka private beach area-

It had been a mostly uneventful morning. Most people just played around or flirted. Sousuke spoke with Hayashimizu about 10 minutes. He was indeed a smart man. Sousuke was finding it harder to keep him from figuring out that there was trouble. At least with himself. He still questioned Sousuke's academic increase. Sousuke watched as Kaname splashed water with her friends and swam around. Every 5 minutes he did a visual attendance check to make sure everyone was there.

Sousuke saw Shinji running up the beach towards him. "Sagara-kun, can you help me get some water melons from the building, you know so we can smash them each just like before."

Sousuke thought back to when he blew up a watermelon then was smacked a great distance when it blew up all over Kaname.

"Uhh….I will help you but we cannot take too long." Shinji began walking towards the building. "Thanks."

"Here Kana-chan!" the girls were passing a large round air ball through the air at each other. Kaname jumped then sent the ball towards Mizuki with a little more power. She sent it high making Shiori run around a bit to position herself to hit it. The ball ended up on her face. "Wah!" was all Shiori could get out before she fell into the shallow water.

"Pufft! Eww… Sea water" the girls laughed as they helped Shiori. Kaname turned to the shore in time to see Sousuke, and Shinji going for watermelons.

"Looks like Shinji got help…" the girls turned to look at the two retreating figures as well.

'So Kana-chan, why won't Sagara take off his clothes is he worried about something?" Kyouko turned to Kaname. She was able to see Kaname's face soften showing a bit of sadness. "Maybe he is worried something will happen now that he has a girlfriend." Mizuki chuckled a bit to herself. She didn't notice the change in Kaname's features.

She realized they never referenced each other that way. She knew that was what they technically were but that word seemed too simple. She couldn't say lover, at least not if anyone thought she was using the full meaning when she said it. She didn't think soul mate applied either. She scratched her head as she pondered these thoughts.

"Something wrong?" Ren was watching Kaname's expression.

"Who me no nothing just thinking." Kaname turned away quickly scratching the back of her head with a light chuckle. "Oh well let's go back, Shinji is bringing out the melons." Shiori suggested it while already on her way back.

"So Sousuke why aren't you changing?" Shinji placed the two melons on the ground. Sousuke put down the six he was carrying. "No reason I just do not feel it is necessary for me to participate in today's events." Shinji didn't ask further as the girls walked up to the water melons. With brief hellos they began to examine them.

Kaname walked up to Sousuke. "So how you doing Sergeant?" Sousuke began to sweat at Kaname's proximity. Being more aware of her features was not necessarily a good thing. "I am fine Chidori, how are you?" Sousuke looked away before his eyes betrayed him. Normally he could control himself, and this wouldn't affect him at all, he probably wouldn't notice it, but his episode that morning kept going through his head, as well as thinking about it the affect was still taking place. He knew it was never a short term problem. It usually lasted the day or night it happened. An hour or so did not qualify.

"That's good, so do you want to break water melon, hopefully you'll do it right this time."

"Negative it's not a problem."

"Are you sure?"

"Affirmative."

"Okay." Kaname looked around to see if anyone was looking. After a quick check that no one was looking not even their friends close by she pecked Sousuke's cheek.

"Uhh… Chidori we are in public." Sousuke looked around to make sure everything was clear. Seeing Kaname look around worried him.

Suddenly he noticed a strange light coming from a nearby cliff, as if the sun was reflecting something. Sousuke focused on it as hard as he could. He noticed a figure was standing there but he couldn't make out anything else the cliff was a considerable distance. He had left the binoculars on the small tower, with a trap set of course. It could just be a tourist he thought, but a feeling inside him told him it was dangerous.

"Chidori have fun, but be careful I have something I need to check, please inform the teacher." Sousuke didn't bother to go back for equipment since he was already wearing it, one of the other reasons he didn't remove his clothing. Sousuke began his walk towards the distant cliff.

"Wait Sousuke what's wrong?" Kaname was worried hearing Sousuke mention leaving. Though the water melon was set up the people playing the game were currently focused on Sousuke.

"It may not be a problem. I will go make sure the threat is non-existent, or neutralize it if my suspicions are correct."

Kaname was worried seeing Sousuke go off again. She watched him leave many times but this was different. So the outcome would be different. Kaname ran to grab her jacket, and water shoes then followed Sousuke.

"Wait up!" she shouted as she ran towards him. Sousuke turned; a disapproving look in his eye.

"Chidori you cannot come if it is dangerous I do not know if I will be able to protect you. I do not want you in danger of any kind."

Kaname crossed her arms staring back at him. "I'm coming, I'll be careful. You always go off on your own, if I come you may have a little less trouble, I might even be able to help. Or if you prefer I can go on ahead of you, you can't technically stop me. But like you said it may be nothing."

Sousuke thought about pressure pointing Kaname so that she fell unconscious but thought better of it.

"Understood. But you must stay back until I say it is ok for you to come out."

"Understood." Kaname saluted the ex-soldier. Then she smiled. She watched Sousuke's cautious expression as they walked.

Kaname was praying there was no trouble, and that Sousuke was just being overly paranoid. Sousuke was worried it was a sniper, but his fear was quickly disposed of when he saw the man had binoculars. Sousuke actually felt better about bringing Kaname just incase anyone tried an ambush while he was gone.

"Chidori I'm going to climb the side of the cliff, you should stay." Sousuke found the part that gave him the best chance at climbing then gripped some points to start at.

"Let's just walk up Sousuke." Sousuke knew she probably saw the side path just a few yards away.

"Negative this way I may be able to sneak up on my opponent. Also the path may already be set up with traps, we should not risk it…" Kaname was already on her way up.

"Chidori!"

Kaname jumped in shock at his cry.

"Jeez Sousuke you trying to give me a heart attack? Look it's safe come on." Kaname patted the floor in front of her with her foot. Sousuke sighed in surrender then walked around to meet up with Kaname. She patted his cheek before continuing her walk. She was annoyed when Sousuke asked to walk a few yards ahead of her just in case but she owed him that much, she could at least try to be safe if she was coming along.

She took a deep breath when they reached the top. "See nothing."

She turned to Sousuke but he already had his gun out and was looking around the small forest that led to the edge of the cliff.

Suddenly it started raining. Thunder could be heard not too far off. Kaname looked up as a sudden heavy down pour slammed itself upon them. She watched as the students continued to play their games. The teacher was probably trying to get them in due to the lightning she doubted anyone minded the rain. She saw as some students ran for the building. Kyouko and that met up with Hayashimizu before heading inside.

"Chidori you should go being this high and around trees is dangerous. I am still unaware of the threat but it is bothering me extremely." Sousuke turned around; he felt the warmth of Kaname's hand slipping into his. He looked at her a few moments before nodding, and entering the forest. He was going against all his better judgments but if he tried to take Kaname back now his opponent may escape. He carefully looked around, and kept his gun ready as he led Kaname through the small but thick collection of trees. Kaname jumped slightly when a loud thunder sounded near them.

Sousuke held her hand tighter as they approached the clearing. Sousuke took a deep breath as he approached the end of the forest. He saw a tall man, broad shoulders. The feeling he gave Sousuke was both familiar, and disturbing.

"Hello Kashim." He slowly turned around to stare at his old opponent.

Kaname's eyes went wide when she saw the man's face. It was however instead of covered in scars back to a good condition. His hair was still pulled back, and greasy looking.

Sousuke's watched the man as he turned around. His glare becoming empty.

"What no hello, I'm hurt Kashim. Oh and I see you brought Kaname with you."

Gauron chuckled a bit. "She doesn't look happy to see me either. But you don't look surprised."

Gauron tossed his head back in laughter. Suddenly a loud bang could be heard throughout the area.

--

-Origin surveillance room

"How is it going?" A tall man not too skinny but not muscular either with long hair just entered the room.

"The subject had made contact with the target. So far nothing has really happened. The target has a girl with him but we cannot identify her. The heavy rain and lighting is making it hard to keep visual sighting as well. A loud sound broke through the area but we cannot figure out what it was. It could just be thunder." A young woman was typing quickly on her console.

"I see… Well just make sure he does nothing wrong. We still need to find what we're looking for. Sagara there may have it." The man watched the blurred figure of Sousuke on the screen. They were currently trying to reconnect the link so that audio could be heard, and visual was repaired.

"Sir we will need five too ten minutes to repair…"

"You have five." The man's voice was calm, but held a hidden force behind it. He took a seat a little farther back in the room. He pulled over a keyboard then began typing into it.

"I want to know it's secret."

The letters 'whi' began to appear on the screen as he typed. He stopped a moment then looked back at the screen.

He finished typing in the rest of the word. 'The Whisperer' opened up, and a strange program began to run.

"A lot of this data is insignificant because of him. He ruined much of it last time he was here." The man began rummaging through random files.

"Sir visual link connected we're working on the audio." The woman called back.

"Why…?" He muttered to himself.

"Such advanced technology, and a little rain is bothering us."

"Sir we're using the old surveillance devices."

The man sat up straighter in his chair.

"What? Why?"

The woman hesitated. She was told it was not necessary to use the new machines.

The man looked down at her back. "The new equipment is harder to detect, and works better so why is it not being used." His voice was cold, and demanding.

"We did not feel it was necessary." The girls swallowed as sweat trickled down her head.

He sighed before decreasing his posture.

"We will speak about this later for now focus on the work." The other 5 people in the room had been working as if nothing happened. If you weren't spoken to you were more safe so no one worried, much.

-Cliff near the beach-

Gauron laughed as the bullet fell from his chest. Sousuke saw the material of a protective vest there.

"Kashim that's not very nice. Especially with a lady present." Gauron smiled at Kaname. She inched herself behind Sousuke. He was smiling but she could see the hate in his eyes.

Sousuke saw it too. He obviously still held a grudge against her for as he said before, turning Kashim into a pussy.

"Aww, don't be scared Kaname I'm sure Kashim will do everything he can to protect you. Though that didn't work too well last time did it. If it wasn't for the Testarossa boy, I was disappointed when I learned you survived. No one told me so, but if Kashim was hanging out with those kids again I just figured. I was glad to hear Kashim escaped the explosion, and that I would get to see you again. It's been a long time Kashim. I don't remember hell but the devil was a really cool guy. I remember him saying he wanted to meet you. Shall I introduce you both?" Sousuke's eyes turned into a deeper gray. The red tint flashed sinisterly a moment before disappearing. Gauron looked into his deep grey eyes. They looked like endless pits that would swallow his very soul. His didn't blink once as his glare focused itself on Gauron.

"Chidori run now." Sousuke's voice hard but low as he spoke to her.

Suddenly another loud bang went off. Kaname saw the gun in Gauron's hand. She looked to see if Sousuke was alright but noticed the gun was pointed at the little bit of her head sticking past his shoulder. She watched as the bullet seemed to float as if time stopped then fell to the floor. Kaname turned to look at the back of Sousuke's head, then at Gauron.

"Very nice Kashim, you know I was surprised when I heard about you. I can't believe I wasted my time on that girl."

"Kaname run, right now but make sure you are angled so that he would have to shoot at me to get to you, I will distract him go." Sousuke held his aim on Gauron's head. Kaname just stood there. She was trying to find a logical explanation for what was taking place.

"Why did you let me know you were here? You could have tried something else. Being obvious isn't your usual technique." Sousuke watched as Gauron's smile widened.

"You know me well Kashim, but I know you better than anyone else. I knew you would easily come if I let you know I was here. I'm not supposed to involve anyone else but that would be no fun. Of course I wanted to see you so I did it their way."

Gauron lowered his gun. "Well Kashim don't you agree. No one else knows you so well."

Sousuke tightened his grip on the trigger.

"You don't know me, either way there are two people who know me better than you." Sousuke didn't want to talk about this but he needed Kaname to run.

"Why are you still here? Go." Sousuke kept his voice low so Gauron could not hear him; the rain also aided his attempt. Kaname took a step back, but nothing more. She was still in shock at seeing the terrorist again.

Gauron laughed.

"That girl is one of them I assume. Please Kashim I doubt she even knows the real you. Why don't you tell her how many people you've really killed? Show her what you really are. Or are you gonna make sure she wears those rose-colored glasses forever. If that's the case let me help the color." Gauron began to raise his gun. He stopped when a bullet almost collided with his head. "Nice shot Kashim." Gauron whistled as he examined the bullet in his hand. He flicked it aside. "That wasn't very nice." Suddenly a flash of lightning blinded everyone for a moment. Kaname was shocked to find Gauron and Sousuke holding each others guns as they pointed them right into each others eye. Kaname was confused as to how that all happened in a split second.

"Oi Kashim." Gauron smiled sadistically as he held onto Sousuke's gun. Sousuke kept his gaze empty as he held Gauron's gun.

BANG! Kaname cringed when she heard two shots go off simultaneously to the last millisecond. She feared the worst. She slowly opened her eyes. All she could see was Sousuke from the back, and what little of Gauron was visible to her. "Achoo!" Kaname hadn't remembered what she was wearing, or that it was raining.

Gauron kept smiling as the small projectile whirled just a centimeter away from his eye. Sousuke's face remained the same as he watched the bullet only a centimeter from his.

The bullets eventually stopped spinning, and fell to the floor. Sousuke pushed Gauron. Gauron stumbled to the side. "I still want to help with the color." Gauron pointed his finger at Kaname. "Bang."

"Kaname don't move!" It happened in a second. Kaname dropped to her knees and covered her ears as thunder roared through the area. She opened her eyes in time to see some trees around her blow apart. "What the…?" Kaname turned to see Sousuke with his hand outstretched Gauron still had his finger pointed.

"Kashim you're always ruining my fun. Let's try again." Just like the first an almost invisible force released form Gauron's finger. This time Sousuke was knocked back.

Gauron raised his gun towards Kaname. "Kaname-chan say goodbye." Gauron smiled when Kaname looked at him. Fear visible in every centimeter of her eyes. Kaname's eyes widened even farther as she watched him pull the trigger.

Bang!

Sousuke felt empty when he heard the shot go off. Time stopped for him. Sousuke watched the bullet release from Gauron's gun. He looked at Kaname. His chest ached when he saw the look in her eyes. He never wanted to see her like that. He wouldn't let that be his last look at her. He raised his gun then pointed it near Kaname. Without hesitation he pulled the trigger. Bang!

There was a strange sound of something colliding. Gauron smiled when he saw Kaname flinch. He frowned when he realized she wasn't on the floor dead. "Huh?" He turned to see Sousuke slowly rising. His head was lowered as he rose.

Kaname looked up. She wasn't dead. She was still cold. If the situation wasn't so bad she would probably be the happiest person in the world. She wondered if he missed. She turned to see Sousuke slowly rising.

'Kill.' The word replayed itself in Sousuke's head. Nothing else was on his mind but his opponent. "Gauron." Sousuke's voice was low, and husky. Pure evil seemed to jump off his tongue as he said the single name.

Gauron shrugged unable to hear Sousuke. He pointed at Kaname again and fired. He was annoyed when he was met with the same results. He turned to see Sousuke had his gun pointed near Kaname's direction. Sousuke raised his head. Gauron smiled when he saw Sousuke's eyes. They were the same 'saint eyes' as he described them before. Gauron actually flinched when the eyes changed. Suddenly they were filled, with so much hatred, and malice it looked as if it would never end. Gauron ignored his reaction. He lifted his empty hand towards Sousuke. He didn't say anything as the water in front of him flew apart as an invisible wave tore threw it.

Sousuke jumped to the side then rushed towards Gauron. Gauron brought his open hand to his coat. He pulled a knife out then slashed it towards Sousuke. Kaname blinked at how fast everything was happening. Sousuke shifted his gun so that it blocked the knife then he span, hitting Gauron in the side of the head with the butt of his weapon.

Gauron fell back a few feet. Sousuke fired two shots at him. Gauron easily deflected them with his knife.

"So now you're ready to play Kashim?"

Despite his current actions Sousuke was trying as hard as he could to calm down. He was more aware but still totally focused on killing Gauron. He put his gun away then pulled out his knife. He watched Gauron's every movement as he stood up. Gauron span the knife in his hand. "Let's play." None of them were truly aware of Kaname's presence anymore.

Gauron slashed at Sousuke the invisible wave unleashed itself in a thin wave. Sousuke swung his knife in a downward motion. Two trees fell over two perfect cuts separated the trees from their lower halves.

"What the heck?" Kaname rubbed her eyes. She couldn't believe what she was seeing. It was like something out of an anime. She watched as they exchanged more attacks.

The 10 inch blades actually released sparks, and cause small flashes as they struck each other. Sousuke and Gauron each had scratches in their clothes.

"This is fun Kashim!" Gauron brought his empty hand around to punch Sousuke. Sousuke brought his arm up to block it but was slammed sideways anyway. He pulled out his gun and fired as he crashed into the floor. He slammed his hand against the ground (despite the knife) the second he hit bouncing himself back up. Before he could land Gauron had lunged toward him knife forward aiming at his face. Sousuke's hand's were full one with his gun the other with his knife. He dropped his then brought his hand up. The blade went right through his hand. Sousuke kept his eyes open as his blood leapt off the wound and landed in his eye, and across his face. Sousuke closed his hand on part of the hilt and Gauron's hand. Sousuke had pushed the blade the rest of the way forcing the blade away from his face. Gauron grinned at Sousuke's predicament. Sousuke took this chance to slam his knife at Gauron. Gauron used his other hand to grab Sousuke's arm.

"For shame Kashim." Gauron began releasing the invisible force on Sousuke's arm. Sousuke clenched his teeth at the pain. He flicked his wrist launching his knife into Gauron's arms. Gauron let go then stepped back as he used his other arm to pull the knife. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a grenade. Without hesitating he brought it to his mouth, bit the pin then pulled the grenade away. He threw towards Gauron. Gauron placed out his hand the unknown force repelling the grenade. The grenade stopped in mid-air. It moved as if it was struggling. Gauron saw Sousuke's had his arm outstretched as well. Suddenly the small item exploded knocking Sousuke and Gauron back. Gauron stood then pulled out two guns. He pointed one at Sousuke the other at Kaname. Kaname had stayed there not just out of fear but she was to amazed too surprised to move. She couldn't believe what she was seeing.

"Don't move Kashim." Gauron looked very serious now. "We are looking for the information on the whispered you took. We would also like to look at you. Give up Kashim I would hate to kill you. Of course if you want to resist a little bit I could shoot our lovely angel over there." Sousuke stood knife still in his hand. Only his eyes moved as they shifted between Kaname, and Gauron. He stopped when he saw his gun was still on the floor. He estimated he still had ten to eight bullets.

"Gauron."

"Eh Kashim." Sousuke threw the knife at Gauron then pulled something out of his pocket and threw it at his unhandled gun. He could have pulled out another gun but the one on the floor was custom made with larger bullets than normal. Though wasteful if you want to kill, the weapon had necessary stopping power. The weapon flew upward as the item impacted with it. Sousuke leapt for it. Pulling out another gun anyway. He fired a shot at the gun Gauron was pointing at Kaname. The gun flew out of Gauron's hand. His fired a shot in time to send the knife away. "Shit!"

Gauron stood still when he found he had two guns pointed right at him. Only an inch away from his face. "Good job Kashim." Gauron was able to grin even in these circumstances. His grin widened when he heard a low humming noise approaching.

The noise didn't go unnoticed. Sousuke's eyes looked around searching for the source of the noise.

Sousuke's eyes went blank for a moment. Sousuke clenched his teeth as pain ripped through him. His eyes flashed red again. He was struggling just to hold the guns.

Gauron noticed and took advantage. He slammed a flat palm against Sousuke's chest knocking him back.

"I'm sorry I have to go Kashim. It's been fun however. I'll see you later. I really hate to leave but business requires some sacrifices, besides I want to see my new toy." Gauron turned around then leapt onto something invisible. By the affect it had on the grass, the way the wind bounced of it, and the sound of the spinning blades Sousuke could tell it was a helicopter in ECS. Sousuke watched as the camouflaged vehicle flew away. Sousuke sat against the tree trunk. He couldn't move. The pain, plus the damage inflicted by Gauron, was taking its toll. Sousuke looked up towards the sky as the rain fell onto his face. He felt empty. Seeing Gauron was not unexpected. What happened with Kaname was. She was normally so able but now she was useless. He didn't move as Kaname moved next to him. "Sousuke are you ok?" Kaname didn't dare touch him. She just examined him visually. His eyes were empty. His skin was a little pale. Kaname wondered if he was getting sick. Not knowing what to do she sat against the tree then brought up her knees, wrapped them with her arms, then rested her head on them. She couldn't go for help. Sousuke wouldn't want anymore trouble; also she didn't want to leave him out here by himself. She was worried touching him would hurt him. She inwardly scolded herself at her helplessness.

"Why didn't you leave?" Sousuke voice was low, but she could feel the anger in the words.

"I was…I thought…"

"You were scared, you thought you could help." Sousuke didn't move but raised his voice a bit. The rain slammed down on them with more force.

"I was scared I was going to run then-"Kaname thought back to what she saw. "-then those weird things happened I was surprised."

"You should have run when I told you, in fact it was not necessary for you to come at all. Mistakes like that cost lives in battle. You are normally very capable."

Kaname didn't know what to do or say. She was still surprised. She decided on pulling her knees closer she lowered her head so that she was looking down. "I'm sorry."

"Sorry will not save people Chidori."

Kaname winced. That stung not only had he said it coldly he used her surname.

"You want help getting back?"

"Negative, go one without me I will catch up later. Inform the teacher that I am either running late or have gone elsewhere and will return later."

"I'm not going anywhere." Kaname turned to look at him. He still hadn't moved anything but his mouth.

"Leave." Sousuke's voice was cold, and demanding. Kaname was taken aback by his tone. She didn't know whether to cry or be angry. She decided neither when she noticed the blood dripping out of various wounds. "Sousuke you're hurt." Kaname sat up and began to examine his injuries.

"It's not a problem. None of the wounds are deep, I will not bleed to death, no vital areas were hit. However once again you should go."

"And leave you here to get sick or tend to your own wounds, Baka! I don't think so mister." Kaname searched his jacket for the little bit of medical supplies she knew he carried. "Yes." She pulled out a small bottle of hydrogen peroxide, and medical napkins, and bandages. Kaname quickly opened his school shirt. Then his regular shirt. After removing those she peeled off his T-shirt. Sousuke didn't say anything through the whole process. He didn't even make a noise when Kaname tended to the wounds. She felt sick when she realized he would have new scars. She felt bad. She knew this was too many scars for someone his age. He had more scars than war veterans at the age of 60. Kaname thought about how unfair life was to Sousuke as she bandaged his wounds. She tended to his hand when she finished. She was surprised when she saw it already began healing. She ignored it then finished wrapping it.

"I'll get it." Sousuke felt a little better, at least good enough to put his shirts on by himself. He didn't bother buttoning them.

"Come on." Kaname tried to help Sousuke up. He lifted himself then collected the assorted weapons on the cliff. After putting away all the weapons, his and Gauron's he walked towards the forest. Sousuke didn't say anything as he walked past Kaname.

Kaname stood frozen when he walked by. She lowered her head then began shaking.

"Fine." She said so that only she could hear. She turned then followed Sousuke through the heavy rain.
