The
Whisperer
--
-Chapter 54-
He breathed
deeply sitting against the wall. He had only eaten half his MRE and a
lot of his drink was not making it into his mouth. He gave up again
as he focused on breathing. His body was sore again. He hadn't
completely planned out what to do next but was not going to wait
long. Just right now he was hurting, physically at least.
"Sir,
are you okay?" Al spoke through the external speakers. Sousuke
could not speak back not that he wanted to right now anyway. He tried
forcing more of the drink and food down his throat. Whether he wanted
it or not he needed the energy. After another ten minutes he finished
off the MRE and drank off a little more of the canteen before putting
it away. Grunting he used the wall to help himself stand up. Looking
around, his eyes were a bit blurry. He wiped his hand over his face
once to try to clear himself.
"Are you okay now?" Sousuke
let his head fall. Al was as annoying as ever, and even if he was
trying to be considerate…this time, but he was still starting to
bug him. Reaching back into the bag he grabbed a gun and slung it
over his shoulder, then slung the bag over the other.
"Sir,
where are you going?" Sousuke turned to look at the AS containing
his curious AI.
"I'm going to look around. We shouldn't be
too far from the civilian section here. Maybe I can sneak in and see
what there is." He turned to walk away. "Move as close to the
area as you can and stay on standby. Keep all sensors active and
defend yourself with everything at your disposal. If it becomes
absolutely necessary to make contact with me you may, even against my
orders."
"Yes sir." He continued down the long tunnel using
the wall to support himself as he walked. He could hear Al moving
Anon as it prepared to follow. He could move inside Anon until he got
close enough but needed the physical exercise. He placed his hand
over his mouth holding back rising vomit. He swallowed it back down
it leaving a bad taste and burning feeling behind. He could feel the
chunks of the MRE as they returned down his throat. He closed his
eyes and took deep breaths as he walked.
After a short while he
reached a manhole. Turning to AL he nodded and removed the top and
jumped in. He looked around hoping they had no security measures down
here. He reached around into his bag for something. He pulled out a
strange head item and put it on. Activating the night-vision goggles
he made the small tunnel visible. He frowned seeing as it was not
incredibly effective as it seemed not much traces of light made it
down here either. He sighed holding his gun up as he moved through
the tunnels. He walked down a number of other tunnels and turns. He
realized someone could get lost and die in here. He pushed forward
trying to make sure he would not be moving in circles. He clenched
his stomach realizing he couldn't hold on anymore he released the
contents of his stomach. Breathing deeply he rested against the wall.
He wondered if he was sick, his body was messing with him again, or
he just wasn't used to being in space. Either way none of this was
good for his mission. He had a strange feeling clenching at his
chest, one he did not recognize. He ignored it though as he tried to
continue walking. He heard a beeping noise before he could take
another step. He slid against the wall as it approached. Whatever
was coming did not use a light to see but he could see a red visor.
The machine approached the contents on the floor and with some
equipment removed and cleaned the spot. He wondered why that would be
necessary out here but did not think on it too much. The machine
glanced at him before turning around and heading back to wherever it
came from. Sousuke willed his body to follow it. It came to a stop in
front of a door panel which opened to allow its entry. Sousuke placed
his gun in the door and put the bag in. Pushing it over, he climbed
in as well gripping the strap on the gun. When he was in he pulled
the strap releasing the gun from the door. Pushing his bag along he
continued to crawl through a tunnel. Finally he came to another panel
which remained open. He climbed through to find the cleaning robot
from before sitting in some machine. Looking around he guessed he was
in a maintenance room, probably for a collection of those robots. He
removed the goggles and placed them back in the bag. Placing his bag
and gun on his shoulder again he headed towards the door. Opening it
he looked around. The hallway was empty so he followed the path he
assumed would take him where he wanted to go.
"Sir, question.
Why do you not just use this AS to continue the attack?"
Al's
voice sounded in his head. Sighing he touched the earpiece. "That
is not your concern. Just sit still and stay quiet."
"But…"
"Be
quiet." Sousuke was finding it difficult to speak. He wiped his
forehead hoping he would feel better soon. He hardly noticed
anything as he passed unable to put detail to anything as he walked
down the hallway. Finally he reached a door with light pouring out of
the other end. Opening it he was surprised by what he saw. Wind blew
against his face and hair, and fresh oxygen filled his lungs. He
breathed deeply as he moved against the wall. In the distance he
could see buildings, most likely places for workers to live. It was
maybe a mile away. He didn't care it was just good to have some
sense of being somewhere again. The walk took about twenty minutes.
Having climbed a hill he looked down at what looked like a city.
Looking up this place had an artificial sun. He wondered who had come
up with that. This was a remake of earth. His thoughts were
interrupted as he turned around pointing his gun. A little girl stood
before staring innocently at him. Not lowering his gun he looked
around for anyone else.
"Who are you?" The little girl asked
causing him to jump and hold his gun tighter.
"That is not
important, why are you here?" The little girl put her finger in
her mouth.
"My mommy is working right now so I like to come up
here when I'm not playing with friends."
"Your mother, how
did you get to this colony? Did you ride a ship from the earth?"
"I
was born here." The little girl said flatly looking at him
strangely.
Born here? He considered her words and if that
was true this place was in production since before he joined Mithril.
"Why are you here?" The girl asked in a cheerful voice moving
closer. Sousuke began lowering his gun but not because he trusted her
but because he still did not feel well.
"Would you like to come
home with me?"
"Yes." Sousuke's answer was unconscious. He
didn't even realize he had said it.
"I'm Sara." The
little girl smiled and took his covered hand. Sousuke notice little
girls seemed to have an attraction to him similar to how Whispered
girls seem to fall in love with him. She pulled him down the hill.
She helped him up every time he stumbled or fell. Finally he tripped
so badly he rolled down the high hill a good distance before
stopping. Getting onto his hands and knees he vomited into the grass.
The little girl ran up to him.
"What'ssa matter with you
mister?"
He covered his mouth, feeling as if he would vomit
again if he spoke. Silently he stood and continued to follow the girl
who continued to bombard him in questions and stories. When they
reached the outskirts of the town the girl opened a panel in the
floor.
"This is my way of sneaking around. Plus you look funny
and would catch attention. Let's go."
"…" He followed
her obediently still carrying his equipment. The little girl led him
through tunnels before finally stopping at another panel. Climbing up
she removed the panel above the ladder and climbed into the air.
Sousuke followed shortly after. She led him up a fire escape to her
window then let him in.
"I can keep the window open because
everyone here is nice and cooperates."
Sousuke was focused on
how much like a regular city this was. Dropping his equipment he fell
onto the couch. The little girl went into the kitchen. He struggled
to keep his eyes open but failed.
-
Pain.
It was consuming his body. He looked around. Where was he? He could
not recognize anything. Why was he here? He remembered the hospital
and then the cell room. Why was this happening and why couldn't he
remember everything. He had resumed his search for Chidori even met
up with the remainder of Mithril; he had seen his friends and Tessa.
After a while he had come across a facility a bit different from the
others. Why was his memory blanking so much? How much time had passed
exactly? Refocusing his thoughts on the current situation he looked
around trying to figure out the exact purpose of the room he was in.
Crates, targets, Arastols…arastols! He stepped back bringing up his
fist in automatic self-defense method. He let his arms fall when he
noticed they weren't moving. He checked himself finding he was
equipped with a gun. He walked around the large room getting a feel
for it. The walls he noticed were very strong. Suddenly he heard the
sound of something opening. He moved to the middle and looked up to
find some of the wall had opened to reveal a glass window. Inside was
the man from before. He believed his name was Schneider.
"Hello
Sagara. You seem to be ready now so shall we begin. How are you
feeling first of all?"
Sousuke opened his mouth to speak but
couldn't. In truth he realized aside from the pain he wasn't
feeling well. Trying to resist it he tried to lift the gun to fire at
the window.
"Can't even lift your arms? Well it doesn't
matter that gun does not have enough power to break this window. As
for your state of being it may not be so bad after you are in danger.
Let's start with something simple that you can defeat with simple
tactics." Suddenly walls opened letting a few armed soldiers into
the room. He ran behind a wall as they began firing at him. He
struggled to keep his mind focused but was finding it difficult. The
bullets kept coming. Before he noticed a soldier was next to him and
about to fire. In the next second the guard was on the floor, Sousuke
arms raised holding the gun in the direction of soldier. He should
have been shot first so how did he get him. As usual he had no time
to think about it as a grenade landed past the wall. He jumped away
out of the cover. Deciding not to waste it aimed at one of the guards
and fired as he hit the floor. The guard dodged and fired back as
Sousuke rolled across the floor. Once again he did not notice as an
enemy came up behind him. He elbowed the soldier but with little
effect as he returned the attack with a punch to the face. Sousuke
stumbled back. He dodged the soldier's next punch but was kneed in
the stomach. Stumbling backwards he was in the other enemy's line
of fire. He jumped forward onto his first opponent until they
struggled on the ground. He slammed the guards face as hard as he
could; dislocating the soldiers jaw.
In the room above Schneider
gave another order. As Sousuke stood up he turned to find another
soldier pointing and gun at him. He ducked as the soldier fired. A
bullet grazed his arm. He jumped forward before his enemy could alter
his aim. He was about to attack the soldier but jumped off instead as
his instincts went off. Looking back he saw the soldier's body torn
apart by gun fire. The other soldier was rising to his feet while
Sousuke looked at the source of the fire. The Arastols had been
activated. He knew he had little to no chance against those machines.
Common weapons were more or less ineffective without a strategy. In
this room that was something he did not have. Taking a step back he
felt something else go off inside. Jumping to the side another
arastols attempted to stab through him.
"Come on Sagara. You
should be able to handle this." Schneider taunted him from his safe
room. Sousuke knew even the assault weapons the guards had were not
good enough to take on Arastols. He ran as they continued to fire. He
could tell they were not set to kill him immediately or the gun-fire
would probably have already torn him apart instead of only follow
him. Running behind a wall an Arastol jumped up and over it landing
in front of him. Sousuke ducked under and rolled next to it.
Eventually when it finished turning Sousuke was already behind it. He
brought the pistol up to shoot into the neck but the machine turned
and slammed him against the wall. The other arastol soon joined them.
They both aimed their weapons at him. He thought about closing his
eyes to await his end but he couldn't. He heard the sound of the
weapons going off…
Sousuke
woke with a stir. Remembering what had happened he rolled onto the
floor pulling his gun. Looking around a little girl walked out from a
room. He pointed his gun at her and looked around.
"What time
is it?"
"Six o'clock why? You've been asleep a couple of
hours. My mommy still isn't back."
Sousuke cursed inwardly. He
had lost precious time and he did not know if they could have already
found him and were waiting. He didn't know where they had cameras.
He didn't know if he was already being tracked. He didn't know if
he could trust this girl. He felt sick again. He placed his free hand
over his mouth once again holding back his sickness. He was getting
tired of this. His dream. He felt sick then too. But he felt like
something was going to happen. The feeling he felt now that he
couldn't recognize. He felt something else. He felt…stupid. Why
was he trying so hard? What would be the point? He knew why. That
wasn't the question he should be asking. Putting his gun down he
stood up.
"Child. Do you have any clothes for men?"
"We
have some of daddy's old clothes why?"
"May I use them?"
The
little girl stared curiously at him.
-
Sousuke
stepped out of the room dressed in a pair of jeans, and a grey shirt
over his AS suit. He had to work around something and remove the
shoulder protectors, and neck part for the shirt to go on well.
Placing leftovers in the bag all you could see of his suit was the
body part of the neck, and the gloves.
"What are you going to
do?" The little girl asked tugging on a pant leg. Sousuke stared
down at the little girl. His expression remained cold. "That is
none of your concern."
He checked himself and then placed a gun
in his pants and picked up his bag.
"Yes it is."
Sousuke
turned curiously at the little girl. "Why?"
"You're not
from around here. My mommy's Whispered so she's smart. A lot of
people here are that way. I am too. "
"Does that mean being
whispered is hereditary?"
"Possibly. We don't know for sure
but it's not proven and is doubted considering the trend is not
continuous."
Sousuke reached for his gun. The girl seemed
suspiciously more intelligent. Could he already be in a trap?
"You're
weird." The girl said while making a face at him. Sousuke actually
felt himself slightly scowl at the child who did not see it because
her eyes were closed in her expression. Not saying anymore he turned
away. He was about to take a step when he grabbed his head. He fell
to his knees grunting in pain.
"What's wrong mister?" The
little girl ran up to check on him. His eyes were peculiar as the
girl tried to figure out what was wrong. Running into the kitchen she
got a glass of water and placed it down next to him. After that she
ran into the bathroom and came back with a first aid kit. Sousuke
ignored and even tossed them aside as he continued his painful
struggle. Images flashed in his head. Horrible images and even
extravagant ones. He recognized them all. After a few more moments he
looked around. The pain had subsided, and he was breathing deeply.
Standing up he spotted the girl huddled in the corner. Looking at the
clock he found about 5 minutes had passed without him noticing.
Looking at her he noticed the expression of pure horror on her
features. He wondered what was wrong but let is go. He felt
different. Grabbing his stuff and replacing the gun in his pants he
walked out of the apartment. Heading towards an elevator he walked as
if nothing was wrong. He headed out into the streets and no one
seemed to notice him. At least if they did no one chose to fully
acknowledge it. He noticed the strange glances he received from a few
of the people. Sousuke touched his ear.
"Al get ready."
"Yes
sir."
He kept the transmission brief and said nothing more.
Walking a few more blocks towards what he assumed would be the main
building he was stopped. A man stood in front of him eyeing him
curiously. The man looked late thirties, and looked more intelligent
than like someone about to start a fight.
"Who are you?"
"…"
Sousuke ignored him and tried to walk by but the man stopped him.
Soon others joined in.
"We haven't seen you before and you
seem more suspicious, rather than an add-on."
Sousuke did not
look at the man but stared at the ground. This would just make things
faster. He did nothing as the man grabbed his collar and pulled him
to face him.
"Answer me…" The man stared calmly at Sousuke
who only stared back. Soon guards were coming around. One of them
looked at Sousuke then at a monitor on his wrist. He turned to the
other soldiers.
"That's him!" They all raised their weapons
and slowly moved in. Sousuke remained in the grip of the man.
"So
you're the one trying to stop us. The one who was changed?
No wonder. Younger than I thought though."
Looking to the side
Sousuke noticed one of the guards communicating his superiors. He
inwardly grinned at the thought.
"You have a lot of balls
coming here. But what are you doing walking around here in the middle
of everyone."
Likes to talk doesn't he? He has the whole
city as a mob to help him if he attacks. He must be afraid of
something. Looking around he noticed how tense everything seemed.
Of course with the situation that was not strange. One of the
soldiers walked up trying to take over the situation. The man let
Sousuke go for the soldier to put a gun to him.
"Sir we have
him, should we kill him?" Sousuke stared at the visor of the suit
clad guard. He could here the conversation. It was allowed if he
tried anything but as long as he stood without doing anything he
would be okay. Sousuke recognized this mischievous feeling.
"I
wouldn't wait too long." He stared coldly at the guard. He was
taunting him but he didn't know why. That as not smart in this
situation. Oh well.
He punched the guard then moved the
body in the way as another guard began firing. Grabbing the captive
guard's gun he fired back as people tried to stop him or scattered.
Bullets that almost hit him stopped then blew apart or were thrown
back. He felt as if the world stopped. Looking around he caught every
movement. Looking up he stared at the artificial sky. The people
attacking him halted a second to look up. The sky was getting darker.
"Some one is messing with the atmosphere and solar generator."
A guard exclaimed while nervously fighting between looking up and
helping to stop Sousuke. The brawl continued with people jumping in
and getting knocked back without Sousuke even touching them. People
were running across the streets screaming.
Elsewhere
Schneider watched a screen uncomfortably. A few others stood around
him watching it as well. "Send a small unit of un-manned AS to the
area. Set them to a defensive position. Have a larger unit of
available pilots get into AS and head there."
His general for
defense operations stepped forward. "But why sir? Un-manned AS are
more than enough for this. Even then why do we need
pilots?"
Schneider stared at the man boringly, but worried. "AI
cannot use the lambda driver. They will need the lambda driver if
they are to survive."
"Master Schneider?"
"Do it."
The
general saluted and then left the room sending out the order.
"I'll
go." A voice said to Schneider. He turned to see who it was but no
one was there. Turning back to the screen he stared worriedly as a
gin crept onto his face..
The brawl was dieing down as people
became more afraid of the young man amidst all the commotion. Soon an
AS came upon them. The soldiers moved back it landed watching
Sousuke. The other un-manned AS stayed back and tried to distract him
as ordered. Sousuke continued to walk down the bustling street
uninterested. He wasn't completely certain of everything but he
knew what he was doing. Looking at the un-manned AS moving around
him, he stopped. He stared a few moments before continuing his walk.
Suddenly the AS began beating each other. The manned AS soon began
pouring into the area. Landing on the floor one of the ones he knew
as the newer Venom types landed in front of him. He noticed this one
had a pilot. The AS stepped forward then lifted its foot. It brought
down its foot to crush him. It was forced to stop as it tried to
press down on him. The leg blew apart causing the body to stumble
back. It blew apart before it could hit the floor. Another pilot came
down obviously surprised and enraged by what just happened. It fired
its machinegun at Sousuke. Iridescent light similar to a lambda
driver effect blocked the bullets. The bullets struggled between two
forces before dissipating into the air. The AS jumped back the pilot
shocked by what was happening. People were still running around
scared. Arastols which seemed even more advance then the last
appeared as well. Began emerging from different points. That was when
Sousuke remembered Leonard was here as well. Mithril and Tessa were
fools for trusting him. The once proud organization would never have
allowed such a thing before their fall. AS continued to attack
Sousuke. He found himself having to try harder and dodge and move
around as the battle continued. A brief thought brought along some
luck as Al finally decide to blow through the wall and help in the
attack. He was unable to use the lambda driver so he destroyed any
enemy he could, and helped Sousuke. After another few minutes the
battle began to calm down. The streets were finally cleared of most
civilians. Many had probably died already and some in buildings too.
Sousuke looked around at everything not feeling any regret. Looking
up and around he noticed the AS pulling back. Some leaping over
buildings, some walking away, and some flying. Amidst the destruction
he noticed a figure in the distance walking alone. He stood still as
a flash with a high-pitched noise came at him. The air was cut in a
triangle around him. When he looked again the figure was closer then
he should have been. The next attack he jumped up to dodged as it cut
the air where his knees and chest were. Looking again his enemy was
not 10 feet away.
"Hello Sagara."
"Col…"
"I see
you have come to get revenge. You're causing quite a stir. I hope
you don't think what you're doing is anything special
though."
"…"
"Gloomy as usual. Well I hope you have
gotten better. The last few times I could have killed you easily.
Strange seeing as you were trying to save the girl. You weren't
trying very hard."
Sousuke looked at Anon then back at Col.
"Al
go wait somewhere."
"Yes sir." His AI responded as the AS
moved to another location.
"I'm not much for talk so are you
ready? Are you still using your toy guns or have you found an
excellent weapon."
Col eyed him with a taunting grin. Sousuke
merely reached behind his back and pulled out his preferred Glock.
The silver-haired swordsman looked surprised.
"You're using
that?" Col felt a bit disgusted and offended and being treated so
lightly.
"It is not my style but if necessary I will dual-wield
another sidearm." Sousuke said as he checked his clip. Col clicked
his tongue. "You bastard. Insulting me before we start."
Sousuke
slammed the clip back in and looked at him seriously. "I know
better than to take this lightly."
"Excellent. But you don't
really expect to beat me with that toy do you?"
Sousuke pointed
the gun and fired. Col stood startled as the bullet grazed past his
ear and hit the body of a downed AS behind him. A loud thunderous
noise was heard just before the remainder of that AS exploded. Col
stood wide-eyed. He should have been able to follow the bullet but
did not catch it. He grunted when a piece of debris hit the back of
his head. Rubbing it he stared at Sousuke scornfully, who only held
the gun aiming at him.
"I see you've gotten better." Col
pulled his sword holding the hilt by his face the sword pointing
outward. Sousuke merely held his stance. Disappearing, or rather
moving too fast to follow Col started off as usual. Ducking Sousuke
pointed the gun upward as his opponent did a horizontal slash at
chest height. Sousuke fired before he could make another attack. The
swordsman was forced to block with his sword. He was tossed back
slightly with the close proximity of the shot. Swinging his blade at
seemingly nothing the sound of slicing air could be heard. Sousuke
jumped to the side as the ground behind him was sliced multiple
times. Pulling a grenade he threw it straight towards his opponent.
He fired at Col's foot as he sent back the grenade that had never
been activated. Catching the action Col was barely able to dodge the
bullet as it made a small crater in the ground. Sousuke fired again
but at him. Scowling he sliced the bullets despite the effect on
them, to fragments. Firing again Col merely held out his hand as the
bullets landed against an iridescent force.
So he really is
similar. Sousuke thought as the bullets returned to the point of
fire. Sousuke stood still as the bullets crashed and were sent around
him.
"Sagara… Why do you fight us? As you were told we are
trying to ameliorate the world. Do you know what that
means."
"Affirmative." Sousuke kept his gun pointed as they
walked in circles through the debris.
"Well then why do you
think we're so bad?" He played with his blade running his finger
along it.
"The things you have done to others are wrong. You
attacked innocent people. You kidnapped Chidori, and you did
something to me. "
"Well aren't you happy about that. Look
how much better you are."
"I'm not better."
"What is
your problem with 'different' Sagara? You are different from
everyone around you, socially at least. Yet you disliked the lambda
driver because it was different. You dislike all this and now even
yourself. You like weak things."
"Negative but all this is
unnecessary."
"You think you can fight us without it?"
"Yes."
"Well lets add some effect to this scene then."
As if on cue the sky darkened and rain began to fall.
"Die
scum!" Blades sliced through the air cutting rain as it traveled.
Sousuke fired through them, the force behind each bullets and slicing
blade clashing. Running parallel they continued attacking each other.
Moving in close Sousuke barely dodged his opponents attack as he
hard kicked him back. Col grunted and sliced as he flew back. Sousuke
moved his head back. He watched as a few traces of his hair fell.
Seeing his opponent come at him again he jumped to the side and fired
back but Col leapt into the air, landing on a broken piece of debris.
Col sheathed his blade and prepared for his next attack. Sousuke
aimed his own taking a deep breath.
"I have a question. Why
come out in the open so quickly?" Col breathed deeply as he kept
his eyes on his opponent.
Sousuke stared back. The original idea
to come here was his first plan. But now he thought differently. He
decided he should explain it. He sighed. He was not one for long
speeches on this subject. "There is no point in being subtle here.
If I wish to destroy this place I should do it immediately without
reserve. I do not care about what happened to me anymore. I have no
desire to find out or understand it. I wish to end this and continue
as if everything were the way it used to be. I have only felt this
way a few times before but now it affects more than it has before. I
do not understand, but I miss Chidori. I wish to go home, well I
would not say home but I wish to go back. To her at least. The dreams
or memories should be left where they are. There is no point like
this. Therefore I must stop or kill you to end this."
Col's
posture softened slightly. He still locked eyes with Sousuke.
"I
have something I must do as well. And for that people have to die.
That may include you."
Suddenly
a bronze AS rushed at them forcing them to leap away from the force
that caused a large crater in the ground. He recognized this AS. It
recognized him as well as it turned to face him. Sousuke fired at the
oncoming fist. Col cursed at the interruption. Sousuke ran around as
Travis once again attempted to destroy him. In the distance he could
see Anon, fighting. The Borghild had come back and probably to finish
things off because it was not being subtle against Al.
"Al."
"Yes
sir." The brief exchange of words was all they needed. Anon took
off like a bullet towards Sousuke. Sousuke turned as the iridescent
force from Eros fist almost crashed into him. Light flowed from
between both bodies. Sousuke fired at Eros his bullet passing though
the light into the stomach of it. Eros backed off and Sousuke changed
his clip. Anon came down and picked him up in one swift motion never
once stopping. Borghild still on its tail Anon stopped and turned.
Both AS were before him. He lowered until he was standing on the
ground. He spotted a shot cannon they must have designed on an enemy
AS. He picked it up and aimed at his opponents. Eros rushed forward
the shock form its feet bouncing debris. Anon fired an iridescent
bullet. Rainbow colors flashed as it hit Eros force before piercing
and blowing it up. He heard the cry of the pilot as his life ended in
a burning rainbow flash. Next was the Borghild. This enemy was the
more complicated one. It took up its rushing position and flew at
him. Anon held out its hand and Borghild stopped as if caught in a
trap. The large AS began to be crushed and fold down. Soon it was no
bigger then a crumpled piece of paper. Turning to look for his first
silver haired opponent he was gone. The rain would also make it more
difficult to locate him. He sighed noticing that the rain once again
accompanied him.
"Sir, that was excellent. The readings were
above scale as well."
"Roger."
"Question sir. What
happened that you are able to accomplish such feats so easily
now?"
"Nothing happened."
"Are you
certain?"
"Affirmative. We have no more time to waste. We're
going right through, and destroying this place. Then we will remove
any threats on Earth."
"But sir there are children and
non-combatants here."
"While some are probably prisoners
others are here voluntarily. We cannot be certain who is what. The
loss while unfortunate must be accepted."
"I do not
agree."
"It is not your place to agree or disagree AL."
"But
sir, in this situation you are being inhumane."
"Negative,
this is the logical choice." What does an AI know about being
humane.
"What would Miss Kaname think?"
"…"
Sousuke remained silent staring at the screen. As if to prove his
point Al summoned a picture of her onto the screen. Sousuke was going
to tell him to remove it but decided against it. He stared at her
picture silently.
"She makes being an efficient specialist
difficult." Sousuke said releasing a breath.
"Acknowledged. We
will not kill them all then."
"We will disconnect this area
from the rest of the colony. We will send it in the direction of the
moon, since this portion is not large it will not affect it. Once we
complete our mission here we will retrieve it take it home and let
the world authorities' deal with them."
"Sir you have
messages from Miss Kaname on your phone. Also I took the liberty to
email then chat with her via IM she is not aware of our
location."
"What?" Sousuke eyelids fell in worry. An AI
should not be able to chat with someone not even on the same planet,
not that he was on one.
"As I previously informed you this
system has many user friendly services."
"Al."
"Yes
sir?"
"Shut up."
"Would you like me to bring up the
messages? She is not currently on to chat but you can
respond."
"Negative. We have a mission to complete."
"I
was trying to bring humor to the situation. It can be helpful in
times of stress."
"Understood but now is not the
time."
"Roger."
Suddenly text appeared on screen. In
Japanese characters it read: "Baka. Hurry up and get your butt back
here. And tell Al to stop sending me instant messages. How the hell
does he even have my screen name? More importantly why the hell is
your AI trying to talk to me?" Sousuke grinned at the last part
seeing as he was not the only one AL annoyed. Kaname also thought
like him in wondering what an AI was doing instant messaging. He
would have to see their conversation later.
"Let's go."
"Sir
many enemy AS have been released and are waiting to attack."
"It's
not a problem."
The disconnecting of the civil portion of the colony was not an easy process. Aside from destroying many more enemy AS they had to destroy some of the locks. They had to be careful not to make a whole in the body of the structure or risk killing everyone anyway. He had already killed a few of them in the course of battle before but they were acceptable. He wondered what had happened to the little girl from before since her building had been damaged by AS. After that he exited and sent the large structure on its way. Turning he face where he needed to go to end this.
"Sir
enemy defense are at a maximum. Entrance may be
difficult."
"Understood. We're still going right through. Be
careful for two enemy AS that may still be dangerous."
"Roger."
They moved one inch before all sorts of defenses started attacking them. Dodging and destroying they rushed as fast as they could to the port area. First he would have to make sure no more enemies could come and go. After that he could finally destroy everything and go back. Back for whatever time he had left anyway.
