Greetings everyone, CrazyPokemonFan here! Even though X&Y is 8 years old at the time I'm writing this I've just noticed a serious lack in Kalos Fanfics, or I'm not looking hard enough. Either way, I decided to take things into my own hands (or typing fingers) and make my own fanfic. So of course sit back and enjoy. Constructive criticism and feedback are always welcomed! Thanks for reading!
Disclaimer: I don't own Pokemon or any of the characters featured in the fanfic:(
Sweet Kalos Chapter 1
(Deep in Reflection Cave somewhere in Kalos) A man who looked to be in his late twenties came across a colorful stone. This stone faded from a light fuschia to cerulean, and a citrusy green, all the way down to a golden yellow. Not to mention it also had black marks in the middle. "At last", said the man in wonder before grabbing the stone that was placed in the cave wall. This man had brown hair. He was wearing a casual suit with a blue coat and a black shirt that matched with his blue eyes.
All of a sudden a young man with dirty blond hair approached him. He wore a blue and white windbreaker with a pair of casual pants. Unlike the older man, he had brown eyes. The older man turned around and said "What a surprise".
"What are you doing here Waylon? '', said the younger man.
The older man known as Waylon smirked and said in a thick Kalosian(French) accent "Isn't it obvious, I'm retrieving this stone".
"I need that stone, Waylon, Professor Sycamore has sent me to retrieve it for him", said the younger man.
"Do you know how much Lysandre Labs is paying me to bring them this stone?', asked Waylon.
"Whatever they're paying you I'll pay you double", said the younger man.
Waylon clicked his tongue several times before saying "And risk my reputation? That's bad business".
"Then you leave me no choice", shouted the younger man. He grabbed a Pokeball off of his belt.
Waylon chuckled before saying "Are you sure that's a wise idea, if I recall correctly I kicked your ass in the Kalos League Finals last year".
"I've grown stronger since then", said the younger man before throwing his Pokeball. A Pangoro was released from the Pokeball and instantly recognized Waylon. "You won't win this time", he added.
Waylon smirked again and said "Try me", before sending his Pokemon out. About 200 miles away a teenager named Calem Xavier was sleeping peacefully knowing that tomorrow would be an important day.
Chapter 1
(2 months earlier in Sinnoh) Calem Xavier was walking through the streets of downtown Jubilife City. He would be 16 in a couple of months and his mom would finally let him get a Pokemon and travel across Sinnoh. His mom, Grace wanted him to wait until he was mature enough for a Pokemon. His dad had served in the Great Kanto War and died when his Mom was pregnant with Calem.
His childhood friend, Barry had already started his Pokemon journey when he was 11. He had a strong Empoleon and already collected all 8 gym badges. He battled in the Sinnoh League Tournament only to lose in the final 4. His neighbor, Dawn (who was his childhood crush) had become a force to be reckoned with in the Sinnoh contest circuit and was on par with her rival Zoey. Calem couldn't wait to pick his own Pokemon and travel across Sinnoh. All of a sudden his Porygon phone started ringing. His mom was calling.
"Hello", said Calem cheerfully.
"Hey Calem, can you come home right now, I need to talk to you about something important", his mom said in a serious tone.
"Uh sure, I'll be right there". His mom hung up. "Great, did she find out about me practicing battle techniques with Barry, or did she watch that video that went viral of me on my scooter while walking Delcatty," thought Calem. He walked home trying to come up with an excuse for whatever he was in trouble for. As he was walking by Dawn's house he saw her in her front yard practicing for an upcoming contest.
She had her signature beanie, which became rather iconic when she won her first grand festival a couple of years back. She had just turned 16 as Calem was a couple of months away from 16.
She spotted him and greeted him with "Hey Calem, how's it going?"
"Hi Dawn, everything is great! How are you?" Calem said with a voice crack which made him embarrassed, earning a giggle from Dawn.
"I'm fine just preparing for a contest", said a determined Dawn. Calem couldn't help but admire Dawn's determination and will to go out and win.
"Well good luck, I hope you win", said Calem a little too enthusiastically.
Dawn smiled and said, "I'll see you later".
Calem went up to his house thinking to himself "Why do you have to be so awkward towards her? It doesn't matter anyway she probably has me in the friend zone since she has a crush on Barry".
He looked at his home. The home he had been in his whole life. He looked over at his mom's Ryhorn stable. His mom was a Ryhorn racer after all. She would be competing in her 20th season of the National Ryhorn Racing League or the NRRL in a few months.
Grace was immensely successful in the NRRL. She had won 4 championships during her career which was 3rd all-time. She had three Ryhorns in her stable. The oldest one was Donnie. In her first four seasons, he raced for Grace and was with her when she won her first championship but suffered a career-ending leg injury. The second oldest was Rocky. He had raced for Grace the past 15 years and was responsible for 3 of her championships.
He was aging and didn't have many years left as a racer but still had pep in his step and most importantly he was still productive in races. The 3rd Ryhorn was Sai who was only 3 months old. Grace planned on using him in races in a couple of years when Rocky retired. Grace had just turned 40 and even though she had strands of grey in her hair she was still winning races and competing for championships. Critics thought otherwise, thinking she was losing her edge since she hadn't won a championship in 5 years.
"Well here goes nothing", muttered Calem. Calem entered his house. The opening of the front door was enough to trigger his mom's Delcatty. Delcatty quickly rushed to greet Calem. She had watched him grow up and would always walk him to school and then walk him back home. Delcatty purred against his leg. "Hey Delcatty", Calem said while scratching the back of her neck. Grace was sitting at the kitchen table.
"Hey mom, what did you want to talk about?", asked Calem.
Grace gave a warm smile and said "sit down Calem". Calem sat down, eager to hear what his Mom had to say. "I have some rather big news", she started.
"She's gonna let me get a Pokemon early!?" thought Calem, who was anticipating this possibility too early.
"Well today there was a meeting between all staff members, personal, and racers and it has been decided that the NRRL will move operations to the Kalos region in a couple of months.
Calem's eyes turned big. "A couple of months!?". "But I'm supposed to start my Pokemon journey, you promised me that once I turn 16 I can travel across Sinnoh."
Grace closed her eyes and said, "I know, I know, I'm sorry it has to be like this but I have no choice."
"Why is the League even moving, they've been here for the past 20 years, ever since you started racing!?", said an upset Calem.
"Calem, I know", Grace said in a motherly tone. "But you know I don't have a choice, Ryhorn Racing might not make us rich but it makes us a lot more comfortable than most and I don't want to lose that, I want to make sure you're taken care of when I pass on someday", explained Grace.
Calem sighed before saying "Alright, I understand, I'll just start my journey in Kalos then".
"The region is very lovely from what I hear, I even talked to the professor there earlier today and he said he would be delighted to give you a Pokemon '', Grace said happily.
"Maybe Kalos won't be so bad", said Calem.
"Thanks for understanding", said Grace in a soft tone. "The announcement will be made public later this week", she added.
"Well It looks like I have to find a way to tell Barry and Dawn about this", said a disappointed Calem.
(Present day) Today was the day that Calem and his mom would leave for Kalos. Calem had just turned 16 a few days ago. They had said goodbye to their family and would visit again someday. Barry and Dawn came to the airport with them to say their final goodbyes. A moving truck would take all their items to their new home in Kalos while they fly.
"Well I hope we'll get to come back real soon," said Grace. "I'll let you have a moment with your friends", she said.
"Thanks, mom," said Calem. Barry shook hands with Calem. "Next time you see me I'll have a Pokemon team," said a determined Calem.
"I'll hold you to that", laughed Barry. Then Calem turned to Dawn. The girl he had grown up with as neighbors. The girl that was his childhood crush and even though he didn't want to admit it he still had feelings deep down.
"Well, uh Dawn I enjoyed being your neighb-". Before Calem could finish Dawn hugged him which caught him off guard. His face looked like a tomato berry. Barry couldn't help but laugh at his friend.
"I'm going to miss you," Dawn said. Calem couldn't help but blush.
"Well better get on my flight," blurted out Calem. Dawn broke the hug and smiled. "Well I'll see you guys when I come back", said Calem.
"See ya buddy", said Barry.
"Have a safe flight!", Dawn said.
And with that, Calem got on the plane for his flight. He didn't realize the mistake he made until they were in the air. "You fool, you had your one chance to tell her how you felt about her and you blew it, you're such an idiot," Calem thought to himself. "Oh well, maybe I'll make some friends in Kalos. It won't be so bad right?"
(The next day in Vaniville Town, Kalos)
Calem woke up with a yawn. He turned over and glanced over at his alarm clock. "8:12," he whispered. "Dammit I overslept", he thought while running his fingers through his hair. He spent most of yesterday night carrying boxes from the moving van into his new house and was absolutely exhausted from it. He and his mom didn't arrive until late last night.
They now lived in a comfy 3 bedroom, 2 story house. One room was his, one room was his Moms and one room was going to be used as a storage room or a guest room. The house also had a rather large kitchen and a cozy living room with a fireplace. The house had a white picket fence around it and was surrounded by 2 other houses.
Vaniville town was quite a small and quiet town from what Calem already saw. A few more houses completed the neighborhood, a post office, a coffee shop, a small grocery store, a gas station, and the town hall. Of course, Calem would have more time to sightsee. He groaned and decided to get out of bed and walk to the kitchen.
Delcatty was still sleeping on Calem's bed as she had been tired too. "Good morning honey, how did you sleep?", asked Grace. "Like a baby", said Calem with a laugh. Calem poured his favorite cereal in a bow. "Ah, Kommo-o-os", he said to himself. As he sat at the table while looking at a newspaper article.
"The Kalos Post". The headlines read "NRRL gets ready for its Kalos season opener". He kept reading to himself. "Famous Ryhorn Racer Grace Xavier will hone her skills in the Kalos season opener on the Cyllage city course in a few weeks". Calem chugged his breakfast down as he always did.
"Hey Calem, can you check the mailbox outside?" asked Grace. "Sure", said Calem cheerfully. He got a new change of clothes. He put on a black vest with a red scarf. He was wearing a white shirt underneath. He put on some cargo pants and to top it off he had his red hat which had a blue Pokeball on the side. He stepped outside and saw Grace's three Ryhorns taking naps on a blanket.
He opened the mailbox just outside of the picket fence. "Hm, we got a letter from someone named Augustine Sycamore". Calem thought to himself.
To his surprise, two girls who looked to be his age were talking in front of his house. One of them had brown honey hair that came down to her shoulders. On her head was a bright red hat with sunglasses. Her eyes were a sparkling blue. She was wearing a black top and a short red dress. She also had leggings to finish off her look. She looked stunning to Calem, like a girl he would only see in a dream. The girl next to her had been kissed by the sun. She had emerald green eyes. She wore a pink top with what looked to be black bows on it. She also wore very short jean shorts. She wore her hair up. Both girls directed their attention to him.
"Maybe Kalos won't be so bad after all, Calem thought to himself.
"Well hello there", said Calem in a friendly tone to the two girls. The girl with the red hat spoke first and said "Welcome to Vaniville town, my name is Serena". "And my name is Shauna!", said the other girl in a cheerful tone. "Oh, I'm Calem", he said in a rather nervous tone as he was somewhat intimidated. He had no idea why.
"We heard you just moved in and we wanted to welcome you", said Serena while smiling. "It's super nice to meet you", said Shauna excitedly. Calem couldn't help but chuckle and say, "It's nice to meet you too". "We both got a letter from Professor Sycamore that said we're going to receive a Pokemon. He also said that you would get one as well", Serena explained.
"Hm so this is what these letters are about", said Calem. "Wait a Pokemon?". The words finally hit Calem. For the first time in his life, he would get a Pokemon and travel on his own. "Yeah we're all going to get one", said Shauna.
"Wait, how come you two don't have Pokemon yet?", asked Calem. "Well, we wanted to both start our Pokemon journey simultaneously, but Shauna's parents wanted her to wait until she was older, so we made a childhood promise to start at the same time, " explained Serena. "So you've known each other for a long time?", asked Calem. "Yep, we've been friends since kindergarten!", said Shauna proudly. "Wow that's great", said Calem. "I guess we have something in common because my
Mom wanted me to wait until I was older", he said.
"Looks like we'll be rivals then", said Serena with a determined look. "Ha yeah I guess it does", Calem said with a nervous laugh. "We're all going to meet in Aquacorde town in about an hour if that's okay with you", Serena said. "Wheres Aquacorde town?", asked Calem who was still confused about Kalos' layout.
"Ah it's just the next town over. It's basically a hop, skip, and a jump away, just take the Vaniville pathway", explained Shauna. "Oh well then I'll be there", said Calem. "See ya later", said Shauna cheerfully. "Once again welcome the Kalos", said Serena in a welcoming tone. "Thanks", said Calem trying to hold in his excitement of getting a Pokemon. Shauna gave one last smile before walking off with Serena. He knew his Dad was a Pokemon trainer, well before the war, but his Mom spoke very little about it. He stepped back inside his house still shocked that he was about to receive a Pokemon.
"Hey honey, I saw you talking to the neighbors, did you introduce yourself?", Grace asked. "Yeah I did but they said were going to meet up in the next town over called Aquacorde town to get a Pokemon", said Calem who could barely hold back his excitement. "Wow already, we've barely unpacked", said Grace.
"I know and I'll help you all I can but I really want to go on my journey, this is my opportunity", pleaded Calem. Grace couldn't say no to her son. Especially if it was for something he was so passionate about. "Fine you can go, I think you're mature enough to handle yourself", said Grace with a sigh.
"Thanks, mom", Calem said excitedly. "Was anything in the mail?", Grace asked. "Well just this letter", Calem said while handing the letter to her. Grace immediately blushed. "It's from the Professor of Kalos", she mumbled. "Is it a love letter?", she said while still blushing. She read it quietly to herself. "Wow what lovely handwriting". "Hm, what do we have here? A request?" Grace's eyes open widely. "Oh my", she gasped.
"What is it?", Calem asked. "It better not be anything dirty". Grace laughed before saying "No it's none of that, Professor Sycamore is going to give you a Pokedex!", Grace said in an excited tone. "A Pokedex? Aren't those for hotshot trainer prodigies?", asked Calem. "Yeah I guess so but it looks like Professor Sycamore believes in you.", said Grace. "Wow I can't believe it", Calem said. "We just moved here but everything is going so fast." "Well let's get your things ready for your journey", said Grace. "We only have an hour."
Almost an hour later
"Alright Calem are you all set?", asked Grace. "Yeah I think so", Calem said while putting on his yellow backpack. "I can't believe you're going on a journey", said Grace. "My little boy is growing up". "Mom, don't rub it in", Calem said. Grace laughed before saying "Alright alright, I packed you a fresh change of clothes, snacks, some money, and a map for your journey."
"Thanks, mom".
"Now get going, and make sure to come back before you leave, I want to see your new Pokemon", she said. "Alright I'll be back later", said Calem. Calem stepped outside to Fletchlings on the roof chirping away. This would be the first time he would walk through Vaniville town. It was still a peaceful morning. He walked through the town's gate feeling mighty.
Vaniville's pathway wasn't very long. It only took him about 5 minutes to get to Aquacorde town. He could see why it was called Aquacorde town as the town sat by a majestic river. It was breathtaking. The rest of the town was surrounded by beautiful trees and shrubs that were all nicely trimmed. There were rows of houses that made up a suburb and there was even a strip mall. There was a small cafe with several tables. "Hey Calem!", a voice shouted.
Calem turned his attention to one table where Serena and Shauna were sitting. Two other guys were sitting there as well.
One looked scrawny and had big orange hair. He wore a green polo shirt with white sleeves and black cargo pants. He was short but looked like Calems age. The other guy sitting next to him was tall and rather obese. He looked a little older than Calem and everyone else. He wore a black shirt with a Pokemon that was the shape of an ice cream cone. It was a Pokemon that Calem had never seen before. He wore orange shorts and had Persian shoes on. Shauna flagged him down. Calem walked over to the table.
"Hey everyone", he said cheerfully. "Calem this is Tierno, he has some serious dance moves and this is Trevor, he's sort of a Pokemon genius", said Serena. "Trevor and Tierno, this is Calem, he just moved here", she said. "Calem put his hand up and said, "Nice to meet you both". "Same to you", Trevor said cheerfully. "Nice to meetcha", Tierno said.
"So I haven't asked yet but where are you from?", Shauna asked with an intrigued look with her hands on her chin. Her emerald eyes sparkled. "Oh yeah, I'm from Sinnoh '', said Calem. "Wow really", exclaimed Shauna. "I've never been there but I heard it's a great region", said Trevor who was fascinated. "Yeah it sure is, there's a lot of Pokemon there", Calem said.
"I was supposed to get my first Pokemon in Sinnoh but then my mom had to move here to continue her Ryhorn racing career, you think you have everything planned and then Arceus attacks it", said Calem with a laugh. "Well now you can start your journey here", said Serena. "Thank goodness for that, we can all be friends", said Shauna in a cute tone.
"Speaking of Pokemon, I have the three Kalos starter Pokemon here from the Professor's lab.", said Tierno with a confident look as if he raised all three Pokemon from birth. He released all three Pokemon out in front of the table.
The first one resembled a hedgehog. It had green spikes on its head with dark brown arms, a brown face and body, and dark brown markings. It gave out a cute yawn. Calem didn't know why but this Pokemon stood out to him the most even though he didn't pay much attention to the other two.
The second Pokemon heavily resembled a frog. It had a blue body and a white neck.
It had big yellow eyes. The third one resembled a fox. It had red beady eyes and a body of mostly yellow fur. The tip of its tail was red and its ears were red. It also had a white chin. He was praying to Arceus that Serena and Shauna didn't want the little hedgehog.
"Hey Calem since you're new here, why don't you have the first pick, what do you think Serena?", asked Shauna happily. "Sure, why not. I think it would be a warm welcome for our newest neighbor", said Serena. "Now who do you pick?", asked Tierno.
How what for a first chapter!? Sorry for the cliffhanger but I have to keep you reading someway haha. I would appreciate some feedback! Once again thanks for reading!
