He never thought it would come to pass, not after the fateful day when he'd sacrificed his dreams and the dreams of his men for Shera's life.

But Cid is a selfish man. Always has been. It's quiet here in space, in an escape pod, watching his beauty head straight for Meteor. He has a lot of time to think. And he's thinking that he'd rather have been in his rocket, in space, years ago, than have played at being a hero.
