Danny and Harp flew through the air, the sun shining on them both. However, the food was running low and they had to stop near the mountain base before entering the Arm Hapries territory. They found more berries and started to fish for some food. Danny sighs, growing a little tired of eating the same kind of food all the time. But he was miles away from the nearest town and he didn't want to make the trip any longer than he wanted. However, he knew that he need to keep his strength up as well as Harp's. Harp was fishing on her own, scratching a few fish from flying over the water. She reminded Danny of the hawks that caught fish the same way.
Soon, they had a huge pile of fish, and they decide to cook some of them so Harp could regain her strength. Since they were close to the enemy, Danny decide to ask something.
"Harp? Since we don't know how long it will take us to find my family once we enter the mountains, can you finish telling me about Queen? You mentioned before that her human mate died before she could lay her egg?" He asked.
Harp looked up in surprise before frowning.
"Alright. As I mention, on the night before Queen left, they mated..." Harp started.
635 BC
Queen flew back home. Last night was still fresh in her mind. She never human knew so many ways to please her. She would be laying if she said she didn't like it. She was kind of looking forward to the next one. She shook her head, she was back with her people now. It was time to be the Harpy they saw her as. However, her views have changed. She landed on the mountainside, her flock giving her a hero's welcome.
"Welcome home, captain!" A harpy said.
"Glad to see you're alive." Another said.
"Is it true that a human save you?" A third asked.
"Yes, he care for me and made sure I was healthy before I left," Queen said.
"So, what should we do with him?" The first Harpy asked.
"Leave him be. He means us no harm." Queen said, surprising her troops.
"But, are you worried he might try something?" Another asked.
"No, Feather is not one of the humans to betray me," Queen said, confusing the Harpies.
"Feather?" A Harpy asked.
"Sorry, but that's my secret," Queen said, smiling.
Queen soon flew off, leaving many Harpies confused.
"Did she just smile?" A warrior Harpy asked.
"Don't tell me she..." Another Harpy asked, knowing that look.
"What?" A third asked.
"I've seen that look at many Harpies after they found a mate." The Third said, shocking the rest of the flock.
"WHAT?!"
Queen remains with her flock for a few days, many young chicks wanting to hear her stories. For some time, Queen told them about her battles, leaving out the bloody details. However, this time, she was telling them about the human that saved her.
"He fed you some yucky food?" A chick asked.
"Yes. But it helped me recover. He didn't like it either, but he never force me to eat it all the time. He mostly had me rest so my body could heal. He never tried anything, never force me to do a thing other than eat and sleep." She said.
"Why did you stay with him?" Another chick asked.
"It's turned out my wing was broken. I had to avoid flying for it to heal. It was a bit hard trying not to fly for a few days, but I was able to let it heal before I took off into the sky once more." Queen smiles, thinking of her mate.
"Can we meet him?" Another chick asked.
"Unless the queen agrees to let him on the mountain, I'm afraid not." She said, sadly.
Queen was missing Marcus. She likes being with her flock, by a Harpy can't stay away from her mate for too long. She was planning on asking the queen if she could return him for a while.
Visits would have to wait, A harpy reported that a group of Armed Humans was attacking one of their sister flocks and they need help. Queen was flying with her warriors, ready to help her sister flock and show everyone that the Human Killer was still alive. They reached the flock, fighting off the humans the best they could. However, their warriors were few as they were more of a peaceful flock. Queen and her warriors flew down, surprising the humans.
"WHAT THE!? IT'S THE HUMAN KILLER!" One Human shouted, seeing Queen.
"Humans! I'm giving this one chance to surrender and leave or fall prey to my talons!" Queen warned them.
One human, either brave or just foolish, tried to attack her. Queen could tell he was still young and clearly didn't know anything about her. She dodges the sword swing before knocking him to the ground. She placed a talon on his back, keeping him pinned. Some humans thought he was a goner while some want to recuse him. However, Queen did something that surprised everyone. She took her talon off the human before kicking him over the others.
"I have a code. I will not harm any young humans or those that won't attack me. But I will not stand back and watch you attack my sister flock! Warriors!" She shouted, causing her warriors to ready themselves.
"Drive them from these lands!" She ordered.
With the help of Queen and her warriors, the sister flock was able to find back and force the humans away from their home. After getting some food and caring for the injury, Queen finally decides to see Marcus again. She couldn't wait to feel his strong arms and soft heartbeat. She blush thinking about him and hopes he was up for another night of mating.
3 months later,
Queen woke up feeling uneasy. She had left Marcus's place to return to her flock once more. She has tried to get Marcus to move closer, wanting to keep him safe from other harpies that could hurt him. Queen walked out of her nest, trying not to fall over. A few Harpies notices her and made sure she was alright.
"I don't know." She would tell them.
Finally, they told the Queen about her and there was a great shock.
"I'M HAVING A EGG?!" Queen shouted as the rest of the flock stared in shock.
"I've seen the sighs many times. I must say, I wasn't expecting for you to have an egg with a human." The Harpy Queen said, smiling.
Queen could hardly believe it. She always loves watching over chicks when not fighting humans. But now she was going to have a chick of her own! Queen couldn't stop a smile from appearing on her face.
"I have to tell Marcus!" She shouted, causing many Harpies to jump.
"Easy, my warrior. With your chick on the way, you need a lot more food to feed both of you. I won't stop you from telling your mate, but first, we feast for your chick!" The Harpy Queen said.
And they did. Once Queen had her fill, she flew to inform Marcus of their new chick.
"I hope Marcus will be pleased to hear this. A chick. Oh, I can wait for the day I lay our egg! I hope our chick will be brave and strong like us." Queen said, thinking.
The smile on her face never faded until she smelled something. Something that made her gag a bit.
"What is that smell?" She asked before seeing black smoke.
She then grew worried when she notices that black smoke was coming from her mate's home!
"MARCUS!" She screams, flying much faster.
She soon reach the house that was up in flames and saw Marcus's body laying in a pool of blood. She flew down, shocked to find him in a state.
"Marcus? MARCUS!" She screams, causing her mate to cough.
"Queen?" He said, using the nickname he gave her.
"I'm here, my love. I'm here." Queen said, kneeling next to him.
Marcus smiles before reaching up with a hand to touch her face.
"Queen...I thought you won't come back until a few days." He said, coughing up blood.
"Don't speak! I'll find someone to help! I'll get my flock! Please, just hang on!" Queen said, trying not to cry.
"Queen, thank you. I'm glad to meet you." Marcus said.
"Don't say things like that! I'm...I'm going to have our egg! I want our chick to meet her father!" Queen said, trying to keep him from dying.
"An egg? I'm happy about that. I'm glad that our child will grow in a world that could finally end this war." He said, smiling.
"Marcus..." Queen said as tears fell from her eyes.
"Queen, don't let my death undo all the hard work we have done. Continue where we left off. Help our chick see that not all humans are evil creatures." Marcus said, touching her face again as tears poured down.
"Marcus..." Queen said, placing a wing on his cheek.
"I love you...my...queen..." Marcus said before closing his eyes.
Queen felt his hand fall from her cheek gasping in shock. Queen remains there, in complete shock. Suddenly a loud and painful scream was heard for miles. The sound of Harpy losing their mate.
Queen cried as she held her mate, not believing the one human she's grown to love was taken from her. Queen cried for a few more minutes before she heard something behind her.
"I told you she'll come!"
"The Human Killer."
"The traitor has played his part."
Queen didn't turn, she didn't move a feather.
"How dare you..." She growls, surprising the humans.
"He was the human that showed me that not all of your kind is out to kill us. He showed me what it was like to be with a human. He helped me overcome my hate towards your kind! AND YOU KILL HIM?!" Queen shouted, her anger growing with each word.
"He should have killed you! You're the Human Killer!" A human shouted.
"YOU DON'T KNOW ME!" Queen screams, still holding Marcus's body.
She finally set his body down before standing up.
"You kill my mate. You killed my chick's father." Queen said before turning around.
She saw it was the same humans that tried to kill her months ago. And now they kill one of their own kind. Queen growls, her wings open wide to make herself bigger.
"AND NOW YOU WILL PAY FOR TAKING AWAY MY NEW FAMILY!" She screams before attacking the humans.
Danny could hardly believe it. Queen had everything taken away from her because some people thought that Marcus was betraying them.
"Queen was merciless on them. She slices their bodies even long after they were dead. The Harpy Queen helped bury Marcus and a few months late, Queen finally laid her egg. It soon hatch into a chick that Queen named Feather." Harp said, looking sad.
"And she never sought out a human mate like her mother, did she?" Danny asked.
"She knew of her human father and being half-human. It wasn't until my Great-grandmother that humans and harpies mated again." Harp said.
"I know I'm the one that asked, but now I'm starting to regret asking," Danny said, feeling sorry for Queen and her child.
"As I stated, his home stood close to our new mountain. Once the old queen passed away, Queen was named the new Queen of the Harpies." Harp said.
Danny sighs. Even if he could ever meet Queen, he'll let her know that he's sorry for her loss. No one has the right to take away one's family. Queen might have lost her mate, but he wasn't going to lose his family.
"Harp, I'm sorry about your ancestor. But I promise that I won't go anywhere until my family is safe. Can I trust you to help me?" He asked.
Harp blinks before smiling herself.
"Danny, you can trust me. I'll stick with you until the end." Harp said.
Both Harpy and Human/Ghost smile, not knowing that two spirits were watching over them. A human was hugging Harpy, who smiles.
"Keep him safe, Harp." The Spirit of Queen said.
Well, you guys/girls voted, and I finished up Queen's backstory. I almost lost all my work, but I got lucky and the amount stay without me saving it. I would have been very pissed to lose all this. So glad I didn't!
Well, now that Queen Backstory is finished, it's time for Danny and Harp to enter the enemy's territory. How will things go? You'll have to wait until the next chapter.
