AUTHOR NOTE: ALRIGHT, after graduating highschool I finally have no thoughts about it anymore and I can hopefully finish this story. Writing may still be bad but I'll hopefully get used to it eventually. To make it easier, I'll write the story on the perceptive of of the Soldiers but still have button prompts and actions done by the characters. As always, RWBY is owned by Monty Oum (rest in peace) and WAW is owned byTreyarch.

Mission 3: Hard Landing

As Yang put down the controller, the girls thought about what they witnessed. the sergeant was stabbed at the last moment of the mission, hoping he had survived. For them, they felt like they need a moment, however, in the middle of the war, the soldiers off the 1st marine division has to push on.

The start of the missions begins with the Marine corps logo as Roebuck explained what happen between the missions.

Roebuck: We're all numbed by Sullivan's death. We just never saw it coming, I still cant believe it.

the screen zoom into the globe, showing the dogtag of Sergeant Sullivan, breaking away from the beads that hold it in place, followed by the status of him. the screen then faded into what seems to be the body of Sullivan, nailed into the coffin as 47 others were lined up to the stars on the American flag, soldiers saluting to the deaths of their fallen brothers. (Ruby: I cant believe he's gone, just like that)

Roebuck: The most solid, dependable and courageous Marine we've ever known. Blink of an eye, gone

it focused on Roebuck, showing he has been promoted to Sergeant to fill in the gap and lead the rest of their platoon.

Roebuck: Now it's down to me, and me alone, to lead these men, my brothers, safely through this campaign.

Weiss was conflicted on the choice on making roebuck a sergeant instead of having a 'substitute' to fill in the role. (Weiss: Why they made him Sergeant? they got the manpower, they could have someone fill in so he don't have the burden all himself.) the map zoom in to the Peleliu airfield, specifically the AA. it then show footage of M4 Sherman supporting troops as the 5th and 7th Marines battalion push further to the airfield

Roebuck: AA fire from Peleliu airfield is knocking our planes right out of the sky. Taking this airfield is our only priority. Whatever the cost.

The debrief ends as the game waits for an input to start the game. Blake is trying to think what these soldiers will be thinking. after fighting their way off the beaches, they have to keep pushing to the airfields. she tried to think of ways to to keep going after what happened at the beaches, but if she was in that situation, she can't get herself to keep going without time to take it all in. Yang gave the controller to Weiss, saying that its her turn to play. Weiss took the controller, even though she don't ever wanna try these type of games, she wants to see the leadership of the newly promoted sergeant.

The missions begins with the sound of crickets as the game fades in and Roebuck inform the squad of Sullivan's body.

Roebuck: Arrangements are being made to take his body back to the states

Polonsky: We've thought Sullivan will make it through for sure

'Hard Landing'

Sept. 15, 1944

Airfield Peleliu

Pvt. Miller

1st Marine Division

Roebuck: We let our guard down, Polonsky. We can't let it happen again.

Miller follow the squad behind as she figure out the controls, keeping her eye on the screen, checking the surroundings for any enemies. (Weiss: the trees are thick, I can barely seen through them. Do they really expect us to believe this is the best course of action?) (Blake: from the intro of the mission, it sounds like they need the element of surprise) Ruby was more interested of the weapon that miller was carrying, named the B.A.R. In her eyes, the sturdiness of the weapons let her know that this gun was built for suppressive fire, although, she was disappointed at the size of the magazine, thinking it should be larger to do the role of suppressing.

Polonsky: So what now?

Roebuck: Tojo's got a tight hold on pretty much everything to the west.
Direct routes runs right into Japanese guns.

Weiss was intrigued on the purpose of the mission, (Weiss: So not only they will take the Japanese air capabilities, but also clearing a way for transportation. I guess not every mission is getting rid of enemy presence off the area.) Ruby wanted to see their other members weapon. She spotted the the sarge with the B.A.R without the bipod, and the other 3 Marines with the M1 Garand, excited on how it works as she doesn't see a magazine on the weapon.

Roebuck: We take the flank.
It might get us wet, but its not going to get us killed.

We regroup with the 5th when we're through this swamp
Stay sharp

The squad cross through the swamp til they stop on the remains of a downed Corsair, soldiers already there to check on the damages and the status of the pilot. The girls never really know a pilot, but Weiss wanted to make sure the pilot is ok so she went close to the downed plane, making sure the pilot is ok.

Polonsky: Poor bastard must have been shot down this morning

Roebuck: Fuselage is still smoking...

check for survivors

(Ruby: Maybe he's still alive right?) (Weiss: from the look of the damage, he may still be alive, but not in good shape. its bad enough that there's no aura in this world.) Weiss move around the front of the corsair, making sure its not badly damage enough that it will explode. He then walked to the marine that is checking on the pilot when the marine noticed something.

US MARINE: He's all snarled up on something...

Shit! Grenades!

Roebuck: BOOBY TRAP!

Polonsky: SHIT!

Before Weiss could react, her screen was shaken violently in a instant and she was near death. in the confusion, Japanese's soldiers charge yelling "BANZAI" She didn't know what to do so she started shooting randomly, by luck, a Japanese soldier got to her and she was thrown to the ground in slowmo, the game showing x to dodge. RBY was trying to get her to press x, yang trying to press it herself, but it was too late. By the time she figure it out, Miller was stabbed and the screen faded to a grey filter.

PRESS X TO COUNTER BANZAI CHARGE

Team RWBY stood in place as they just take in what just happened. (Yang: They could've told us before all of this?!) (Blake: So that what the Americans were facing?) (Ruby: the game really make us feel untrained, like we were just... placed into the war) (Weiss: This is ridiculous. They booby trapped our dead?! Its unacceptable) Weiss paused the game when she was placed unto the moment when they spotted the crashed corsair. (Ruby: first they show us of the enemy is them torturing) (Yang: Then their suicidal charges) (Weiss: now boobytrapping our own dead? A whole country with this kind of mindset cannot be real. Whoever made this game is insane) They look at the mysterious box and the letter with disgrace. They refused to believe people play this game that is so... barbaric. To make it worse, its only the third mission. After taking a minute to regain their thoughts and calm their minds a little, Weiss unpaused the game, this time staying near her squad instead of checking it out.

Polonsky: Poor bastard must have been shot down this morning

Roebuck: Fuselage is still smoking...

check for survivors

US MARINE: He's all snarled up on something...

Shit! Grenades!

Roebuck: BOOBY TRAP!

Polonsky: SHIT!

Miller quickly aim down his sights to take down the charging Japanese soldiers, but was getting shot heavily in the process, making him run into cover to recover while safely firing back. The sounds of gunfire was disorienting Miller a bit but she managed to focus as he finish off the attacking Japanese. When he thought it was safe to cross, another group of Japanese charge with the the war cry of "TENNO HEIKA BANZAI" surprised miller and caught him off-guard, putting him the same predicament a minute ago.

Roebuck: AMBUSH!
Keep 'em back!

Weiss was ready this time as she press x just in time, Miller pushed the bayonet away and counter it with a knife to the throat as the Japanese's eyes roll back and slumped over, a quick but gruesome death. Weiss is still conflicted on the idea of the banzai charge as she think that its a waste of lives, sending men to their death is not a good ideal. Blake is more curious on the phrases that the Japanese was yelling out, maybe its a belief, good luck, blessing? She not really sure, she wish she can know more of the world that the game sets in, (might bring in a character to explain it to them :D) After killing the ambush group, the squad kept moving as Miller switch to his M1911 pistol and replace it with the Japanese type 100, as much as Weiss wanted to keep the weapons she was given, she was curious on the arsenal that the japanese were using against the Americans. She wasn't impress with the build, but she after learning what the Japanese were going through from the intro, she can't blame them for going quantity against quality.

Polonsky: Can't believe they booby trapped our dead...

(Yang: That's what we were thinking. I feel bad for the private, He's still new and he doesn't know what the enemy can do) While miller walked through the swamp, keeping an eye on their surrounding, the little time of peace was disturbed by another Banzai charge as Japanese soldiers charged from the thick swamps.

Polonsky: It's another damned ambush!

Polonsky: they're all around!

Miller shoot in short burst in order to save ammo, but with how dense the foliage is, it's difficult to know whether you hitting someone or not. He quickly got into cover as Roebuck told the squad to keep it tight. which got a little laugh from Yang. After the small banzai charge, Miller and his squad hear artillery fire beyond the hill, signaling that the attack of the airfield has already started.

Polonsky: I think we're kinda late.
Sounds like the 5th's kicking ass.

US MARINE: This is it Marines, lets get them!

Roebuck: MG's in the bunkers up ahead.

Nambu artillery sittin' right in front of it.

Roebuck: Private! Get a grenade up there!

Miller got into cover and toss a grenade, Ruby was questioning on the grenade throwing animation, saying it looks a bit lazy. Once the grenade explode and everyone saw a body part flew into the air, which made team RWBY gagged a bit from the sight, a US Marine that is suspected to be the current attacking squad leader and Roebuck rallied up his troops and attack the position. Miller took cover behind some stacked crates and switch to his B.A.R, started firing on the enemy that are taking cover near the bunker. Yang wanted Weiss to push forward since she had a submachine gun on her, she could rush them and killed them off quickly, but Weiss wanted to take it safe, but it seem like they aren't stopping. After some convincing, Miller threw a smoke grenade between the "no man's land" area between the destroyed artillery point and the bunker and rush forward through the smoke. Miller proceeded to destroy the front line as the rest of the squad pushed forward.

Roebuck: Carve a path through

He slowly walked through the bunker, stabbing the machine gunner in the back, much to Ruby dismay for "somewhat" fair fights. Miller turn the corner only to meet gunfire in his direction as he took cover behind the wall, returning fire in the process, nailing one straight to the dome and a couple to the chest. At this time, Weiss has been killing them from afar mostly, but in close quarter, they can see the reaction of the enemy as they been shot from their direction. even though her training had her ready for combat, she never had been trained to kill others, chipping her perception of war even more. As miller reached the exit, a Japanese soldier charged at miller in a last ditch effort, which ended up killing the soldier and the machine gunner behind him.

Polonsky: Flamethrowers moving up

Roebuck: Polonsky! Give 'em covering fire!

(Yang: Flamethrower! sounds awesome, hey Weiss, doesn't atlas have something like that?) (Weiss: I don't think so? Fire dust has enough energy to create fireballs, maybe Professor Oobleck's thermos is something like that. Although, this world doesn't have dust, so what and why would they need a weapon suck as a flamethrower?) luckily for them, the flame thrower did his job burning the bunker Infront of miller's position while he was still inside so they didn't see it in action. Miller push forward, clearing the enemy as they kept going as they spot what seems to be the Flamethrower. Blake questions the exposure of the tanks on the soldiers back, but her questions will have to wait as an enemy bunker was firing on his position, forcing him to duck beneath the trenches.

Roebuck: I want suppressing fire on those MG's!
The flamethrowers need to reach the bunkers.

Miller tried to give the flamethrower suppressing fire using the B.A.R but it didn't stop them. When the soldier that was near the front of the bunker stand up to use it, he only managed to use it for a second before being fired up, filling him with bullet holes before he went down. Luckily the Flamethrower itself was unscathed and still useable.

Roebuck: Miller, get the flamethrower and finish the job!

Weiss was a bit confused on what the flamethrower could do to the bunker, in her perceptive, the flames did little damaged to the concrete. So, she got miller to throw a smoke in front of the bunker before sprinting to the soldier's body and replaced the type 100 with the flamethrower. Upon picking it up, miller tighten the nozzle before having it ready to fire. All that was left to do was fire into the bunker, to team RWBY, it kinda looks like they just pouring fire into the bunker before it started smoking from the inside, with Roebuck warning Miller.

Roebuck: It's gonna blow!

Get outta there!

Polonsky: Hell yeah! Burn ya little bastards.

Team RWBY didn't hear Polonsky as they were taken aback by the explosion followed by screaming, then the music kick it up. Weiss being startled as she tried to take in what she did and what to do. Miller walked through the hole as Weiss looked at the burning, but still alive, man screaming in pain as she just looked at them with a bit of despair as she decided to shoot them to end their pain. Ruby look a bit traumatized at the burned men while Yang was taken aback and was rethinking on having flamethrower arms. As this was happening, Weiss decided to keep using the flamethrower as her thoughts were empty. (Weiss: So this is a flamethrower, it's kinda useful in close quarters, but at the same time, I'm- they are burning them to death) (Blake: Too much suffering in order to end them, it's inhumane) (Ruby: Yang, cover my eyes, I don't like the way they are. . .looked) miller kept going through the bunker til they reach the end and wait for the rest of the division to cross the open field.

Roebuck: Keep it together.

Airfield's about half a mile north.

While they cross the open field, an engine was heard heading towards them. As they look up, they see a B-17 flying dangerously low as one of its engine was on fire and heading to it final destination. Team RWBY was star-gazed on the sight of the B-17 passing above them, but from the looks of it, the bombers seem to play an important role, and seeing one shot down might be demoral for the Marines on the ground

US MARINE: Awww shit...

Bastards just took down another one.

Roebuck: All the more reason to keep pushin'.

Every plane we lose makes our job harder.

Weiss looks skeptical on the placement of the grass, almost like its hiding something. Miller pull out the flamethrower and start spewing fire all around them, confirming her suspicion as she hear the screams of the Japanese soldiers yelling BANZAI, while stilling being on fire. While Miller lit the grass on fire, they started taking fire from the trees, frustrating Weiss on the tactics of the Japanese. To make it worse, she didn't got all of them as more stood up and charge at the squad. The Marines quickly finish off the assaulting charge as they make their way over the hill where they see AA fire from the distance.

US MARINE: They were just waiting for us...

Roebuck: Enemy's holed up in that building

A truck blew up in front of them as they join the rest of the division and hid behind the trench of the bunker that look strangely familiar. The machine gunners is suppressing them so hard, some bullets are getting lucky and hitting Miller as he try to keep his head down. (Yang: Damn, you cant peek your head out without getting shot at.)

Roebuck: What's the skinny?

US MARINE: The 7th came in from the north!

US MARINE: They're trying to get their tanks on the airfield, but it's a nightmare over there.

US MARINE: Tojo's holding tight!
We're pinned down by the MG fire from the second floor.

US MARINE: Any ideas, Sergeant?

Roebuck: Yea...

Roebuck: Supply truck dead ahead.

Roebuck: Miller, Polonsky. Follow me.

Weiss was trying to cut the number of machine gunners firing at them, but it seems like there is another to replace the other. Miller moved up the line to the supply truck while being suppressed from the machine gunners on the second floor.

Roebuck: Miller! Load up with those rifle grenades and blow that damn bird off his perch.

Team RWBY had their second look on advance tech of ww2, which is the M1 Garand w/ launcher. Ruby and Yang was excited about the concept of shooting grenades off of rifles, they were curious on how it works when Weiss traded the B.A.R with M1 Garand w/ launcher as from the looks of it, they're seem to be no tube or mechanism to fire a grenade. When Miller put the grenade shape charge on the end of the barrel, it kinda confuse the team , but when fire, they finally understand how it worked. (Ruby: OOH, it uses the pressure of the bullet to fire off, neat.) Upon firing the grenades, the grenades made clearing the machine gunner positions more easier for them as they had a chance to push into the bunker entrance and killed them off in close quarters.

Roebuck: Move! Into the building!

Don't give 'em a chance to regroup!

Clear 'em out!

Even though the M1 Garand launcher made clearing enemies easier, the fighting inside was still brutal. Now, Miller is getting fired at from every direction, which forced him to go back outside till he have a a clearer path. when using grenades didnt work, Weiss switched to using the flamethrower as she pushed through to the 2nd floor. Ruby was getting nervous being near Weiss as she watched her set the enemy ablaze, but its only a game, she's lucky that they have aura to protect lethal damages. Not only that, but the sergeant's leadership was getting to the girls, making them feel safer under his leadership as they kept going.

Roebuck: One last push and we take the airfield!

Upon reaching the 2nd floor and seeing the airfield from the damages of what the team suggest was the bomber planes flying overhead. Upon seeing the airfield, the airstrip was in shambles; bomb holes everywhere, planes blown up and the hangar destroyed. it look like hell on Earth, all that is left standing is the AA bunk.

Polonsky: Damn! This ain't gonna be easy.

Roebuck: It never is. . .But we can do this, Polonsky, okay?

As Miller jumped down from the bunker, the tank platoon were rolling up the hill, leading the spear charge to the trenches. The music pumps up the scenario as Miller makes his way to the trenches overlooking the AA's, killing any Japanese that were on the strip. Weiss wanted to take cover behind the Sherman nicknamed, "Uncle Sam" to the likeness of Yang, but was shot by the enemy tanked as it swerve to the left a bit before catching fire. another tank platoon roll their way up the strip.

Roebuck: Stay with our tanks!
Help them move up!

Weiss decided to follow behind a Sherman named "Mississippi Mama" because Ruby wanted her to follow mama, she would say the full name but she struggles trying to say Mississippi. Upon diving into a dugout trench, three Japanese tanks were holding the line between them and the AA's.

Polonsky: Japanese's AA Guns are zeroed on our planes!

Roebuck: We'll get to them!..

We gotta deal with their tanks first!
Scavenge supplies from the trenches!

Bazookas, rifle grenades!
Hit 'em with whatever you can!

While this is all happening, Ruby was staring blankly as she trying to figure out what Polonsky meant by Zeroing on their planes.(Ruby: What he mean by Zeroing in?) (Weiss: it means they got their sights on their targets) (Ruby: …What?) (Yang: it means they can hit their planes without missing.) Ruby looked down in a bit of embarrassment as Weiss picked up the obvious glowing M9A1 Bazooka. One of the three tanks happen to be Infront of the trench miller was in, so he took aim and fire the bazooka at the tank, damaging it but not destroying it entirely. The tank fired back, damaging miller in the process as he quickly inserted another warhead and finished it off, destroying one of the three tanks. Miller swiftly finished the other two tanks while Weiss was complaining about how inferior tanks was to mechs. After destroying the last tank, the Sherman pushed forward as they support the Marine division to the enemy trench. In close quarters, the the flamethrower was doing a great job clearing the Japanese trenches, but Weiss started to notice that she's taking heavy damage while using it. In the process, she switch it out with a Type 99, it wasn't ideal in the scenario they were in, but it does take them down in one or two shots.

Roebuck: Move up and take out the AA guns!
We are taking this Airfield

As Miller moved up, they were Infront of one of the three AA stations, still shooting the planes above while the Japanese that were guarding spotted them and started shooting them. Weiss looking at the AA with disgust: the exposure, needing more then one to aim and fire, and the small magazine fed made Weiss think that they wanted to get shot at.

Roebuck: Miller! take out the first gun crew!

(Weiss: Even if we're right in front of them they wouldn't retreat, are they really that dense?!) Miller took out the soldier up on the watchtower while the others help take out the gun crew. While near the AA, Blake noticed a message on the screen but Weiss a bit focused on taking out the other AA to noticed. form the angle that Miller was in, He took out the AA gunners while Polonsky confirmed the kills. Their squad pushed forward to the rest of the AAs, taking out the remaining forces, again Blake seeing the message again when Weiss was aiming at the AA guns. Once the remaining forces were dead, the music perfectly changed to that of feeling surviving a risky mission, relieving the girls as they look at the direction of the mountains.

Roebuck: Nice work, Marines!
Let's give Major Gordon the good news.

Polonsky: Bastards nearly had us...

US MARINE: Yes, sir. The airfield has been held...
Repeat, the airfield has been held.

Roebuck: They'll do whatever it takes.

While they had their moment of relaxation, Ruby noticed Polonsky looks distraught, as they turn to look at the mountain, they saw some Japanese moving out of their sight, looking like their rallying for a counter attack. Weiss was about to get on the machine gun before Blake stop her. (Weiss: Blake, what's wrong?) (Blake: before you get on... that, can you go up to one of the AAs? I saw a prompt and I think we can use it against them.) (Yang: If that's a true, we'll be able to use their weapons against them, pretty smart kitten) Miller walked up to the AA, and just like Blake said, there's a prompt to use the AA. Miller seemingly teleported to the seat as he quickly cranked the AA to face the road, which infuriated Weiss more on how slow it is to aim down.

Polonsky: Aww shit... Sarge, We got a problem.

Roebuck: Sir, Japanese reinforcements
coming in north of the airfield...
Request immediate air support.

Yes, Sir... understood.
Everyone take position. Eyes Forward.

Polonsky popped green smoke behind them to signal the planes of their position as they quickly got into positions.

Roebuck: Stay Strong.
We are Holding this airfield!

Once the Japanese started attacking, Miller fired at them in long burst to kill them off, but once more poured in, Weiss kept her finger on the trigger, exploding the red barrels in the process. Due to their exposure, Miller was taking damage in the process, however the damage was not major to outheal, which Yang wanna call BS on since the world doesn't have aura. Roebuck started to call out more infantry coming in on trucks. It was like never ending Grimm like that mission Team CFVY had. (Blake: you know, for a country that is defending, they're throwing soldiers at us like its nothing) Ruby hugged Yang as the sound of gunfire all around them was scaring Ruby abit.

Polonsky: Where the Hell did all those
Reinforcements come from?!
They're bringing up tanks!

(Ruby: This is starting to resemble CFVY mission alot now) If they didn't destroyed the AA, the tanks would be a major problem for them, luckily for them, the AA had enough firepower to destroy the tanks, even if it takes lots of fire. Roebuck Ordered Miller to get on the triple 25 despite being on it already, but it is a video game, they don't expect to know all your doings. The situation was looking more desperate as they just keep on going, Weiss was really wondering where the hell are those reinforcements, to which Ruby pulled out the infamous swear jar. Some of the Japanese managed to slip through and climb up, to which miller got off, shot them down, then got back on and keep firing.

Polonsky: It's a whole damn convoy!

It felt like they were fighting for almost an hour. Roebuck was questioning where they keep coming from. Some of them managed to take position on the tower, which gave them a better firing position on Miller and the squad. Miller tried his best to move the triple 25 to position as fast as possible, but it wasn't cutting it, Weiss decided to get out of the AA and fired at them with their weapons and it worked, but once they're back on the triple AA, it looked like the enemy just multiply. (Yang: Oh my Oum, are you sure they're not Grimm, they keep coming and coming nonstop) While they thought that it will never end, the music replayed to the victory music as the sound of Corsairs swoop in and burn out the enemy forces, much to the excitement and relief of the Division and RWBY. As the screen fade to black, the Us Marine relayed back to the major on the situation.

US MARINE: Yes, sir. The airfield has been held...
Repeat, the airfield has been held.

Weiss laid the controller down as she took a breath of relief and look at the others with the eyes mixed with stress and tired. (Weiss: Now I know what they feel like.) (Ruby: They never stop coming, I thought it never end) (Yang: It really was hell, I don't think I can think of a joke for that) Yang put a dollar on the infamous swear jar as they took it all in once more. (Weiss: I'm glad we don't have a flamethrower, with that much fire, you could burn all of Remnant down to the ground. (Ruby: I think we should take a walk before we begin another mission.) (Yang: Blake, you're next) (Blake: Why I gotta play?) (Weiss: Because we all did except you, so I think its fair you should too.) Blake reluctantly agreed as they head out of their dorms. After they all left, an almanac of sorts appear in front of their tv, holding every question and answer they need to know of the war, all locked by completing that certain mission.

Author note again: if anyone still follow this book, thank you for waiting, I know ya'll was excited for the next chapter only to wait 2 years. But now that I'm DONE WITH SCHOOL, at least I may actually continue on. All that being said, HOLY SHIT, it takes me 30 minutes to do 3 minutes of gameplay, and this is only the Americans, now I goitta do mother Russia. Blake is gonna be so broken.
