Chapter 1: Prologue/Introducing Emily Elizabeth

This is dedicated to my American Eskimo, Dash: 2006-2021

(We see a bone-shaped island and zoom down towards it making out a town, a couple of docks on the beach, and a lighthouse, cuts to a young blond-haired girl about 12-13 years old wearing a pink shirt, black skirt, with pink and black striped socks and black shoes walking through a park looking back and forth for something as she narrates)

Emily Elizabeth: (Voiceover) Hi. My name is Emily Elizabeth and I live on a wonderful place called Birdwell Island. I'm sure some of you have pets. In this case, dogs. Well, I'm a dog-owner, too, but my dog is very special. (Normal voice) Clifford! Clifford! (Suddenly feels the ground shaking as some leaves fall off the trees in the background and she turns around as a 25-foot-tall red Labrador Retriever jumps out of the woods barking and charges up to her coming to an abrupt halt forming a pile of leaves with Emily Elizabeth standing on top and the girl laughs as she rubs off a few leaves on his nose) There you are! Hurry up, boy, we're gonna be late for the carnival. (Hugs and kisses her huge canine's nose and he licks her with his long tongue, she jumps as he also jumps and lands on the ground hard and she lands on his back behind his black collar) Let's go! Full speed ahead! (Clifford runs through the park and down a few hills with Emily Elizabeth laughing happily while riding his back, then alongside a railroad track as an Amtrak train sounds its horn)

Train Engineer: (Looks out the window of the locomotive's cab and waves at the big red dog) Hiya, Clifford! (Clifford barks back and jumps over the train, then runs down a hill towards the town past a large poster with a map of the area under a large sign saying, "Explore all the sights of Birdwell Island" and jumps over a few buildings till he runs down the street as Emily Elizabeth narrates the story some more)

Emily Elizabeth: (Voiceover) Little did Clifford and I know that something happens that would almost tear us apart, but more of that later. Our story actually begins even before I got Clifford. (Cuts back a few years to bustling New York City) It all started when I was just a little girl living in an apartment building in New York City. Back then, I didn't have a dog, but I wanted one more than anything in the whole world.

Mrs. Howard: Mark, do you think Emily would take on such a responsibility?

Mr. Howard: Come on, Caroline. I had a dog when I was a kid. (We see Emily Elizabeth when she's about 8 in her bedroom with large pictures of many different dogs with her looking at a book about dogs)

Emily Elizabeth: Someday, I'm gonna have a real dog. Big and beautiful. (Looks through a couple pages with pictures of certain dogs) Maybe an Irish Setter with a shiny red coat, or a big, tall Great Dane, or maybe a Komondor, then Mom and Dad won't need a mop.

Mrs. Howard: Emily! Time for school!

Emily Elizabeth: Coming, Mom! (We now see her in the back of the car with her parents up front as they pull into her school and they wave goodbye to each other)

Mr. Howard: I'll drop you off at the office and then I need to see Dave at the police station. (They pull up to a building with a sign saying, "Potter, Kellogg and Peacock, attorneys at law")

Mrs. Howard: (Climbs out and walks around and kisses her husband's cheek through his window before he drives off) Love you.

Mr. Howard: Love you back. (As Emily Elizabeth's father parks his car in front of the police station, he passes a newspaper stand with 1 paper's headline saying, "Retired Army General and Vietnam War Hero John A. Howard of Connecticut is the official Republican Party nominee for President with longtime friend U.S. Senator Scott Maxwell of Alabama as his running mate" with a picture of an elderly grey-haired man holding the wrist of a dark-skinned man wearing glasses around the same age in his right hand and both are beaming, he passes a few officers before seeing the Chief near a coffee pot)

Mr. Howard: Hello, Dave.

Chief Jones: Mark! (The Police Chief walks over to shake his friend's hand) Want some coffee?

Mr. Howard: Thanks. (Chief Jones walks back and pours more coffee into another cup and they both walk into his office) How are Becky and the kids?

Chief Jones: (Sits down at his desk with Mr. Howard sitting across from him) Oh, they're fine. Andy just got a gift for Emily's Birthday next week. He just about spent his allowance to get it.

Mr. Howard: Surprising how close he and Emily are. Who knows? In about 15-20 years, you, me, Caroline and Becky may practically be in-laws.

Chief Jones: (Chuckles) Aside from Emily's birthday, seems there's going to be even more exciting stuff going on. My daughter, Heather, going to college, along with your father running for President. (Reveals his own copy of the newspaper seen on the stand earlier) I have to say that was quite an acceptance speech he gave when he was nominated last night.

Mr. Howard: Yeah. We all thought Dad was joking when he began thinking about it less than a week before he announced his candidacy. But he said he saw the way this country's going and wants to do something about it. I mean, he never held a political office, you know that.

Chief Jones: Well, you know, several past Presidents were Generals. George Washington, Ulysses S. Grant, Dwight D. Eisenhower. Of course, some had careers that you wouldn't expect. Woodrow Wilson used to be a college professor. Oh, and don't forget Ronald Reagan was an actor. Remember that movie, "Back To The Future," when Doc Brown didn't believe Marty McFly when he claimed Ronald Reagan was President in 1985? (Both laugh thinking about it)

Mr. Howard: I remember that, Dave. In fact, it made Reagan himself laugh when he saw that. Still, I'm sure he'll make a great President. But still, it's for the people to decide.

Chief Jones: Well, we still have a few months till the election. Personally, I hope he wins.

A/N: This is my personal take on the upcoming live action movie Paramount Pictures is releasing in September. I thought at first its release date is in November, but it seems to be coming out 2 months earlier. It'll contain the original characters from the TV series and the "Really Big Movie" released by Warner Brothers in 2004, along with a few OCs. 1 OC is Emily Elizabeth's grandfather, John Howard, who, as mentioned in this chapter, will also be in the White House in this story. Hope you guys will enjoy.
