Meaning: Purity, innocence

His world is crazy. There's no other way to describe it.

And sometimes it gets to him. Fighting the lunatics of Gotham City is no easy feat on the body or the mind. The things he's seen at some crime scenes with Batman…they surely would have driven a weaker man insane. Sometimes he wasn't sure how he still held on.

They're watching a movie together, and she's comfortably nuzzled up to his neck under the warmth of his blanket. The chill of the Gotham winter sends shivers down her spine, but his body provides excellent warmth and Alfred's hot chocolate heats her up in a way almost nothing else ever has.

She's laughing, and the vibrations from her body reverberate through her and into his chest. It tickles him, but he's silent for the most part, not paying any attention to the movie as his eyes drift off into nothingness and his mind goes back into that dark place he's learned to call home.

She notices he's not cackling like he usually does, and it honestly worries her. What worries her more is the lonely dissonance filling his normally ecstatic blue eyes.

"You okay?" Her soft hand rubbing over his cheek and her melodious voice ringing through his ears snap him out of his trance, and he shakes his head before looking down into her eyes. They're the size of the ocean, practically bursting with life. The longer he stares into them the more he thinks she's got some kind of hypnotic spell over him, because it feels as if she's transmitting care and warmth through her glowing blue irises.

Dick smiles and leans down to kiss Zatanna on the nose, and she relaxes herself on his shoulder as they turn back to the movie. He rests his own head on top of hers and thinks that there's no feeling in the universe that could top what he's feeling now.

"I am now."

He takes it back. He knows exactly why he's able to keep himself in one piece. It's because he surrounds himself with people like her.

And so long as she's around, he knows she'll preserve whatever shred of innocence he has left in his heart.
