Chapter 8 First Day of School. A.N. I still don't own Harry Potter or Twilight. special thanks to Sharrie/Dance in the Dark for looking this over for British inconsistencies because I am American not British.

Harry and Hermione drove into the school parking lot, and everyone turned to look at the new students and their awesome car. Today they were in Hermione's new ruby red Ford Shelby Super Snake. It caught everyone's attention. But the new students kept it.

"It's like we are back in England again." Harry groused as he noticed the people staring as they made their way to the office.

"At least here it will die down eventually." Hermione tried looking at the positives of the situation.

Harry smiled and pulled the door for her. Together they walked into the office completely missing the student with amber eyes looking at them from not far away.

"They're here," Alice rejoiced to the others. "I saw them walking into the office. I'm so excited!"

"So have you had any clarification on which one is going to bring such happiness to our family?" Edward asked hoping the happiness would be for him.

Alice frowned, "You know I haven't. My visions of the two of them are still as foggy as before. All I know is that either one or both will be mates to one or more of us. All I can tell is that we will all be incredibly happy together."

"They are human won't we be setting ourselves up for another Bella problem?" Rosalee asked looking at Edward with a little malice.

Edward scowled back but before he could say anything both humans walked out of the office and right past them.

Edward breathed in just as they were passing as he was planning to welcome them to Forks Highschool. Suddenly they all took a deeper breath and turned looking at them more closely.

"Wow." Rosalee stated breathlessly.

"Wow is right!" came from Emmet.

"It's incredible they both smell so wonderful and yet I don't want to eat either of them." Jasper stated eyes wide.

Edward looked closer at the young woman wondering if it was possible that she was meant for him. He had come to realize Bella was not his mate, nor was she who he had thought she was. He was so tired of waiting for his real mate though. Could the girl with the wild hair be his? He had no desire to drink from her which was a brilliant and wonderful change from Bella. Listening closer he realized that he had not heard anything from the minds of either the young man or woman who were walking away from him. He tried to tune in more wondering if it was possible.

Suddenly the young woman seemed to freeze up and looked all over for something. Finally, she locked eyes with Edward and narrowed her eyes in return. But, she stopped looking around once she saw him looking at her.

"What is it Hermione?" the young man asked the woman with the wild corkscrew curls.

"I'll tell you about it when we get back home, Harry." Hermione answered her brow furrowed.

Suddenly Jasper gave Edward's shoulder a little push. "Edward, your starring is bothering her, she is feeling disturbed and worried," he whispered.

"Yah Eddie cut it out." Emmett laughed. "Most people don't like the whole psycho stalker look."

"It's just I can't hear their thoughts and she acted like she could tell I was trying to hear her."

"Nope I think she just didn't like the way you were looking at her Eddie. It was kind of creepy." Emmett insisted.

Harry was delighted that, apart from Maths, his classes weren't that difficult. But Maths, was evil he decided. It was almost worse than Voldemort. OK not quite as bad as Voldemort but he did feel like he was going to die from his brain exploding. Unfortunately, he and Hermione couldn't stay together in classes. They had given them both a quick test and of course Hermione was put into the advanced courses of everything.

He had a free class just before lunch and decided to go visit the tutors to see if they could help him start to get caught up with the rest of the class. Once there he decided he was glad they had decided to stay for a few days. His tutor was an awesome and incredibly beautiful young woman named Alice.

Her laugh was like the tinkling of bells. Harry was enchanted. There was something about her though that prickled his magic. He didn't understand what it was. She had amber eyes that just this shade of butterscotch. They seemed to reach into his soul and made him feel wonderful but cautious. He felt like he knew her already, but that was ridiculous right?

"Thank you, Alice, for going over all of this with me, I feel like I've been thrown into the deep end of the pool with only rudimentary swimming skills."

"No problem, Harry, it was my pleasure." Alice stated with a smile. "Do you have lunch now," she asked?

"Yes, I'm supposed to be meeting my sister Hermione in the lunchroom."

"Would you and Hermione like to join my family and I for lunch?" Alice asked hoping her and her family could fake eating in front of the two mysterious new students.

"I'll have to make sure that is fine with Hermione but yes, I'd love to." Harry replied with a smile.

Meanwhile, Hermione was also meeting with two of the Cullens. Emmet and Jasper were in her class with her and had made a space for her between them as their table was the only one with an empty spot.

"Hello pretty lady come sit with us." The mountain of a man said to her. Hermione froze for just a moment. They were unnaturally beautiful. Hermione felt a little hesitant and some trepidation. For a moment it was downright worry, but then it was gone. She couldn't help wondering if they had a bit of a creature inheritance. Like a Veela or something. Only two of them had blonde hair though. She would have thought vampire, but their eyes were butterscotch not blood red, plus there was the fact that they were students here and people knew of them. Vampires usually could not be in the open like this not for any length of time.

Hermione smiled at the man's exuberance.

"Don't mind Emmet he thinks he is God's gift to all and sundry, but he means well." The shorter and no less handsome man said. "I am Jasper."

"It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Hermione," Hermione introduced herself and offered her hand to both.

"What a lovely name, is it after the daughter of Menelaus and Helen or from a Winters Tale?" Jasper asked.

"Actually, it is from both." Hermione admitted surprised he not only said the name right but knew the origins. "Mum and dad loved Shakespeare, mythology, and history. My family are bibliophiles."

Hermione said feeling sorrow and longing for her parents again. Once again, she only felt it for a moment when the feeling uncharacteristically went away and was replaced by peace. Hermione cocked her head to the side feeling curious and wondering what was going on with her emotions today. Never, had she been able to pull herself back from the depression so easily or quickly since she had taken her parents memories of her.

Something was strange it was good but once again she started wondering about the gorgeous men around her and wondering what they could be. Could they know who Harry and her were? Also, were they trying to lull them into a false sense of security somehow?

Hermione nibbled on her lip a little as she considered if Harry was right, and they should leave?

She didn't want to, but it might be safer for them and those around them if they just moved on somewhere else. Then class started and she was pulled out of her musing. Up until it was lunchtime and Emmet and Jasper invited her to join their family for lunch.

Lunch was a little awkward for Hermione she wanted to talk to Harry privately about her suspicions especially since seeing the rest of the family that were taking them under their wing all had butterscotch eyes. That in itself wasn't normal but when she factored in everything else, she felt a little nervous. The only good thing was that they didn't seem to recognize them.

Well, that wasn't the only good thing. Emmet was a ball of sunshine and made her laugh. Jasper seemed to understand her in a way that no one else could and his old-world charm was disarming. Alice seemed to be so bright and chipper she was so welcoming Hermione couldn't help but hope that they could stay and get to know these new people who seemed comfortable and could be friends. Rosalee was the only one who seemed cautious about them in return but strangely, that was reassuring rather than off putting. Then, there was Edward. She was certain that he was trying to read her mind. It was annoying and his consistent brushing against her Occlumency shields was slowly driving her mental.

She was starting to think that Forks might not be the best place for them to avoid the magical world. First there was the shape changing wolves and now whatever the Cullens were. Fortunately, it didn't look like the Cullens knew who they were so maybe they would be safe to stay?

Please review, I read and adore them all. Even if I don't get back with you (though I do try) they are usually encouraging to me to write more.
