Ok, let's move on with the story a little bit :)
I hope you will like it :)

The journey to their trucks was endless. Pinky, Happy, Morita, and Gabe were taking care of the hostages and also leading the way. When she thought about it later, she could not remember much of the way. Later on, she was told that she had a bad concussion that left her completely confused and numbed. Only thanks to the adrenalin she could still walk on her own, but Dugan must have dragged her the whole way as she wasn't able to keep the direction.

When they arrived, they tied the hostages into one truck and then set a fire and sat her down next to Dugan and Pinky to warm their feet. It was the first memory she got after the journey. The pain of unfreezing limbs was so excruciating that it cleared her mind. In her initial confusion, she wanted to withdraw her legs from the reach of the warmth that was produced by the fire, and which caused her such pain, but Dugan hugged her firmly around her shoulders, caught her legs with his own, and forced her to stay there. Luckily, neither of them lost any finger, but it was close enough.

It took hours before Steve and Bucky appeared along with another truck. When they jumped out of it, they joined the group sitting by the fire.

"Where are hostages? Did all of them run away?" Bucky sounded surprised.

"Nah, they are tied in the truck and Happy is watching over them," answered Morita.

Bucky sat down with his shoeless feet facing the fire and grimaced. Even though Steve was the last one without shoes, he did not seem to mind that much. He first went to check on the hostages and then joined them. The only space big enough for him to sit down was next to Peggy. All of them fell silent for a while, just enjoying the warmth of the fire.

"Ok, now that we are all safe and alive…" started Bucky and then he turned to Peggy "What the hell was going on there? You almost ran to the fire." She has not heard him speak so angrily before and shivered. Steve wanted to draw her close to her as he saw her shivering but did not dare. He only looked at her. It took her a while to look at Bucky, but before she could open her mouth and try to explain what she found out, Dugan spoke. "She hit her head, Buck, could not even go on her own, let it be."

Bucky seemed to be satisfied with the information and she did not feel like explaining, that she wanted to run through the fire for a folder that she would not have been able to recognize, and which maybe had not even existed.

"What is the plan for now, captain?" Asked Pinky tiredly.

"You should take some rest. We are not in a hurry. We let the SSR know where we are, and we sent them our coordinates, but I do not think that they will be here soon. They want to bring Stark to check on the weapons." Pinky started to stand up… "You are staying here," announced Dugan. "All of us who do not wish to lose our fingers must stay near the fire. And I recommend you not to fall asleep because your thermoregulation is worse once you are sleeping."

They started chatting afterward. They needed to stay awake and to feed the fire. Peggy leaned her head against her knees and watched the fire when Steve positioned himself close to her and whispered that only Peggy could hear him.

"I think I know one of these guys who we caught."

"I have the same feeling, but I do not know where I saw him. The only thing that I can visualize when I see him is the training camp, but I can't say when he was there."

There was only silence between them afterward.

After an hour or so, Gabe took the floor.

"Ok, guys. I have a question! Who do you think would marry the first?"

It was a poor attempt to keep all of them awake, but it seemed that it might work. All of them started to look at each other.

"I will!" cried Dugan. "At least I should. I think that I am the oldest one in here so it would be only fair!"

"But you do not have anyone at home," said Morita.

"And is there anyone who does?" asked Dugan.

Bucky looked at Steve and grinned. Steve's ears went bright red, but nobody except Bucky noticed that.

"I think that I might ask my neighbor," said Pinky dreamily. "She is very nice."

"Do you know that the look is not important, do you?" asked Bucky.

"And what do YOU know? We are still listening to your stories about girls, but they do not start with a sentence: Wow! Guys! I met such a CLEVER girl!" Everyone laughed.

"You must be brave enough to marry a brave woman," nodded James and continued, "I once loved a clever woman. I wanted to marry her. But then the war started, and I decided to join the army."

"And what about our captain?"

Steve's ears were still red, but he just shook his head. "Don't be stupid. You did not see me before the serum, but I was tiny, and women ignored me." They only chuckled and Gabe turned to Pinky.

"Not everyone ignored you," whispered Peggy. They both were watching the fire as if it was the most important thing in the world, not daring to look at each other.

"I looked as an ill chicken, as a… small boy, as they called me all the time."

And suddenly it struck Peggy. The world boy, the keyword. And suddenly she could see not only the camp but also the face of the mole they caught next to another well-known face… She was so surprised when she realized that, that she forgot to answer Steve who thought, that if she does not object, she agrees with his statement and felt a pang of sadness in his heart.

"And what about OUR LADY?" asked Gabe loudly.

Peggy winced, disorientated for a while. "What?"

"Do you think that you will marry after the war?" He asked good-heartedly.

"I am not wearing a white dress in the future," she answered firmly. After her words, everyone looked at her in surprise.

"And why so?" Asked Morita.

"It brings bad luck".

"I thought that it should bring good luck". Said Gabe surprised.

"Ok, it brings bad luck to me."

"And how do you know? You did not make it to the altar. Did you even try the dress?" Everyone looked at Gabe with a warning sight. Even though they knew that she was engaged with Fred Wells, nobody wanted to dig into this topic, and they considered this topic to be extremely private.

"Oh yes, I tried it. And I looked so stunning that my mom was crying out of pure happiness." She was talking so bitterly that they almost did not dare to breathe. "And the last time I wore it was the day when we were told that my brother died." There was complete silence. Not everyone knew that she even had a brother and who did, they were only told that he was dead for a long time.

"You did not try it for the second time, though." Dugan smiled and tried to ease the atmosphere a little bit.

"I do not want to risk it … for your sake". She smiled at them but did not meet their eyes.

They started to chat again with one another, and she turned to Steve, who was still sternly watching the fire.

"Will Colonel Phillips come with Stark?"

"I do not know, why?"

"I need to talk to him."

"If he does not show, I will call him and let him know." He looked at her. "You seem anxious."

"Yeah, I just… remembered something that Col. Phillips told me a long time ago."

"And what was that?"

"That if we have a mole from our center, we can't let him out of our sights. Those people who he was a friend with would not take us seriously and therefore there is a better chance of him escaping."

"We have five hostages, but four are Russians. I think that the agents who will show up will want to take all of them for interrogation. But we can bring the American guy with us if you think it is important." He measured her for a while before he asked. "What happened to your brother?"

"Until today I thought that he was killed."

"Until today?"

"The list of names we found… I found there the name of my brother. And before the American group came in the headmaster's office, they were talking about those people, and they said that they were captured and that some of them are still alive." Steve looked at her with wide eyes.

"What else did they say?"

"Only that we would not want to find those who survived. But I do not know why! And I do not know where to find them! And I think that that information was in the cabinet that burnt down. I feel as if I lost him again," her eyes were filled with tears which she did not let out. She blinked quickly and looked away. After a while, she continued. "It's just so weird! I remember the moment my father told me that Michael died. He was not talking about him being MIA."

"Maybe he wanted to protect you. It is harder to move on when you do not know what happened to people you loved… Or maybe he did not want you to do anything stupid."

"Oh, then he failed because after told me about Michael, I called off the wedding and joined the army. It was… the only thing I could do for him." The last sentence was almost whispered.

"Did you want revenge?"

"No, but… Michael was the one who recommended me. And the last time I spoke with him he encouraged me to go for it. He was the one who believed that I should not lead a life of a housewife as Fred imagined I would… I just wanted to grant him his last wish… And it was a way how to be close to him again."

"What about your parents?"

"They think that I am a codebreaker somewhere safe… I did not find it clever to tell them what I exactly do and as my father is retired and out of the army for a long time, he would not find out."

The night was terribly long. It was maybe because the sunrise was after eight a.m., that they were tired, that those with shoes took watches over hostages, or maybe only because they were not used to waiting for someone to come.

It was around midday when they heard cars. All of them took their guns and got ready for the enemy. They could not be sure who was approaching them.

The truck stopped the moment the driver saw a bunch of nervous soldiers aiming at him. The passenger's door opened, and Howard Stark leaned out of it. "Do not shoot me!" He screamed happily. He jumped out of the car and run towards them.

"Steve! Peggy! I am so glad to see you alive! And you found my babies? Where are they?"

"Babies?" asked Peggy incredulously.

"Yeah, my inventions!" He hugged her happily, turning to Steve.

"Captain! It's nice to see you again!"

James led him towards the truck with his inventions and he followed him excitedly. They could only hear him scream.

"It does not seem bad! In fact, only one invention is missing! That is not too bad as I know how to destroy it!"

"What was the last invention, Howard?" Asked Peggy.

"Do not worry, it's not even a weapon! It's a microchip." He turned around in an attempt to change the topic, but Peggy knew him better by now.

"And what does it do?"

"It can… change people's minds."

"WHAT?" Screamed everyone who heard him answer.

"Do not look at me like that! The US army wanted that from me. They thought that they would make our enemies answer their questions with these things. The problem was that it did not work that way. They overpowered the whole mind of the user as you see… so once we implemented that to their heads, they lost their own memory…"

"Our technology is not as advanced," hesitated Steve.

"Mine is!" said Howard happily.

"It's nothing you should be proud of! Playing with people's minds! Do you know what they can do with that?"

"Yes, I know! But it should have never been even touched by them! And do not worry, I have a technology that can destroy the microchip and it will not even kill the person."

It was late afternoon when they were ready to set off. The Russians were given to agents and the mole was about to stay with them. He did not tell them his name, so they came up with a few nicknames, from only the word "mole", which was not also a swear word. They were told to accompany Stark to his depo and then they should go to Well's camp to meet Col. Phillips there.

The journey was mostly uneventful, but it was long. The last time that anyone from the commando slept was in the camp before Peggy broke the code and it was almost 60 hours ago. And those six hours of "sleep" was for most of them broken by the watch. So, to sum it up, they had not slept for almost three days, and they were grumpy. They followed Peggy's orders, and no one dared to look away from the spy when they were in his presence, and he noticed that.

He noticed that he was watched very carefully. He also noticed the expression of Agent Carter when she looked at him in the morning. Her face was not moving, but he could see that she recognized him. And if she recognized him, he was sure that she would make sure that everyone who was friends with him during the training will be checked. And that meant that he needed to act and prevent her from saying anything to anyone. Because nobody called him by his name, he was sure that she kept the truth a secret. He heard the lecture given by Phillips about not talking about moles himself and for the first time in his life he appreciated the man. He had given him a way how to protect the main spy. He realized that this bunch of soldiers will not let him go out of sight, but as he understood it, they were about to visit a camp of the young idiot – Fred Wells, where soldiers were known for their lack of discipline and morale. It meant that he would have a chance to get rid of her.
