How long does forever last?
Disclaimer: I do not own Yami no Matsuei
Hisoka leaned his head back against the chair sighing. Tsuzuki was lying in the bed next to him; they were in the infirmary at the Summons Department. Hisoka kept looking over to check that Tsuzuki's chest was still moving up and down. After Kyoto, Hisoka did things like this. He hadn't slept, and though it had only been three days, it felt like forever since Tsuzuki had been awake. The incident had taken a lot out of both of them, both mentally and physically.
Hisoka's mind started wandering, he mused over the job of the shinigami. They were charged with the job of bringing back reluctant souls from the world of the living. They were given this job because they had left the world of the living with regrets. And so they were almost immortal now, with healing abilities that could cure almost every injury. Most of them had powers and guardians to protect them.
Tsuzuki had twelve guardians himself, all of them ready to protect him and to come when he called. They all protected him fiercely and reacted violently whenever he was in danger. And one of them, Touda, always followed Tsuzuki's orders, no matter what the cost.
Hisoka had been through a lot with Tsuzuki, but nothing had actually scared him like the Kyoto incident did. He had been so afraid; the only thought that had entered his head was Tsuzuki. He wanted to save him, he needed to save him. He realized that he needed Tsuzuki just as much as Tsuzuki needed him. When he had asked Tsuzuki to live for him, he had meant it. He would have done anything at that point to save Tsuzuki.
When Muraki had taken Tsuzuki, Hisoka couldn't think and he couldn't breathe. It felt like some part of him was being ripped away. He only knew he needed to get Tsuzuki back, he needed to save him. It had taken a talk from both Watari and Tatsumi to realize that, after that it was the only thought in his mind.
Seeing Tsuzuki surrounded by those horrible dark flames had been bad enough, but when Watari told him that Tsuzuki could actually die from them, he abandoned all care about himself. Only Tsuzuki mattered now, and it was up to him to save him.
The thought of never seeing Tsuzuki was what drove him into the dark flames, totally ignoring Watari and Tatsumi's warnings. Hisoka didn't want to live without Tsuzuki; he didn't want to face his long afterlife alone.
In the end, it had been Tatsumi that had rescued both Hisoka and Tsuzuki from the flames
using his shadow magic. Since then, Hisoka hadn't left Tsuzuki's side.
Deep down, Hisoka was afraid that if he did leave Tsuzuki wouldn't be there when he got back. He had not only realized his love for Tsuzuki but also his fear of Tsuzuki leaving him. If nothing else, the Kyoto incident had taught him that the shinigami weren't untouchable, that they could die. Tsuzuki was over seventy years old and yet he didn't look a day over 26. Hisoka was condemned to look 16 forever. But if shinigami could be killed, then a question lingered in Hisoka's mind.
Tsuzuki stirred and his eyelids fluttered open. Hisoka saw those beautiful expressive amethyst eyes once more and he breathed a small sigh of relief. He leaned closer to Tsuzuki and took his hand. Tsuzuki smiled and Hisoka could feel the love rolling off of Tsuzuki in waves.
"Hey 'Soka," Tsuzuki said still smiling. Hisoka smiled back affectionately and answered, "So you're finally awake you lazy lump." Tsuzuki gave a weak laugh and grinned. They sat in the comfortable silence for awhile just enjoying each other's company. Hisoka was glad that his partner was awake. Someday he would tell Tsuzuki how he felt, but for now Tsuzuki needed more rest. After he had forever right?
But then, how long did forever last.
A/N: I know its kind of sad I guess but the idea sort of jumped into my head. Anyway, let me know what you think!
