Since I have been on a sick break I decided to do a double feature. The situation from last time really got on my nerves but I'm not going to let it affect my writing. I do this out of enjoyment and because people like to read it. Fuck Trolls, in my own harsh words.
To musa22lbl: I will be revealing the Petra of it all soon but I do like to be a little mysterious.
Also I would love it if you all left more reviews if you wanted. I like asking questions when I read fanfiction or a book or hell, a manga. It's nice to say the least but also interactive. The story is as much for the people reading it as it is for the writer.
Now without further waiting and ranting, Fixing What I Can 9 & 10 aka Double feature.
Chapter 9-
"See you Windy Darling." I hugged my little sister for the last time.
"I'm going to miss you Maverick." She said into my neck. I patted her back in comfort. I was finding it harder to let her go than she was to leave. I knew it was for the best but It was making me nauseous.
Is this what separation anxiety feels like?
I set Windy down on her feet and gave one last pat to her head. "Have fun ok?"
"I will. And you'll call me everyday won't you?" She pulled out the puppy dog eyes.
"Of course munchkin." I promised her as I walked her to Petra's car and buckled her in the back seat. I gave her one last kiss and didn't even spare a glance at my desolate mother in the passenger seat.
I waved goodbye as the car sped off and even lingered a bit when they were out of sight. I had just moved my sister away from me for the summer and was not sure how to handle this. I missed her already but knew logically it made sense to have her away.
Instead of focusing on what I was missing I started being more active in a better future. I opened all the ring supplies that had gotten here throughout the day and got to work. I was going to be doing some very experimental magic work and I wanted as many non-failures as possible.
First I started with some moonstone and since it was a full moon I was lucky that I could speed up the charge almost instantaneously with some magic. I took a wire of silver and used my magic to make it so it was very malleable. Magic was so much more fun when I could do things like this. My mind already had this picture of how the ring should be and how it would work and my magic made it true.
I picked up the silver band and infused only a touch of magic so it would grow with its wearer then made a little bowl of sorts and put equal parts moonstone and amethyst which the moonstone would charge. Then I took the malleable silver and made a T outline while also having some silvery roots touch down on the base. The last element was the labradorite that would make the T.
Tyler Lockwood, friend and family. May this ring work for you and you alone. May the moonstone be your wolf, the amethyst calm your rage and labradorite give you the power of change.
With my blessing and final touch of magic the ring was done and might I just say, gorgeous. It was great for my first attempt and if I got better in the future I would most definitely improve it but it was good for right now and even represented the egotistical part of my friend. But just as I finished Tylers I felt this need to make two more while I still had the moon at its apex.
I didn't think I would get those types of witchy feelings since I never got them before but first time for everything I guess.
This time I used gold bands instead of silver. I took out two pieces of moonstone and charged those while sifting through the gems and crystals until I found two that just called to me. Ametrine that started purple then became a pale orange and Amazonite that was on the paler side of turquoise. I made two different rings with them that each had a Labradorite C in the middle with the same roots as Tylers.
The Ametrine ring for inner-strength and the Amazonite for self reflection. I just felt like now wasn't the time to give these away but I didn't know who they were for. I didn't have the brain power to figure it out either. It was late, I was exhausted and these rings felt very fortelling. I decided to just take them upstairs with me and leave them on my dresser while I fell to sleep.
In my dreams I was in a very familiar room. A room I hadn't seen in 5 years.
"Oh no." I groaned.
"Oh yes." Zephir or as I called them, The Pirate appeared in front of me, stepping out of thin air.
"No no no no no. Whyyyy? I don't want to see you. And why are you still dressing like a pirate." I looked them up and down and saw their fashion has gotten even worse. It was all jack sparrow but without his signature locks and in its place a long, sleek blonde ponytail.
They whipped it around seeing my attention on it. "Jealous?"
"Not even in reality." I deadpanned.
Zephir pouted. "You're so mean when I'm trying to be helpful."
"So that's why you've brought me back here after five years. I thought you were just being the annoying parasite I know and can't stand."
"Sticks and stones~" They sing-songed.
"Wish I had a stick right now." I muttered under my breath. "What did you want Zephir?"
The mood began to change and their demeanor became serious. "I wanted to warn you. You're doing good with Vicky, she has touched drugs yet but her mom should be on your priority list too. The rest of the gang are good for now and He shouldn't be a problem for some more time. No. I didn't come to warn you for them but for you. There are enemies at work on the other side who don't want you here."
"The spirits? What would they want with me?"
"It's more that they don't want you there. I'll be honest that bringing you here has broken a lot of rules and the one who looks over the world isn't happy about it. She cant harm me but fuck with you? She will revel in it and get her servants involved."
"I'd like to see them try." I growled.
Zephir smirked at my growing anger. "That's good. You won't lay down and take it. Even if you wanted to, your magic wouldn't allow you to. Adaptation, mimicking, elemental manipulation and enchanting so far. You're growing." I wasn't expecting the softness in their voice.
I got a bit shy. "Yeah but the mind moving thing could use some work and I just got a hang of my magic control." It was a frustration I dont think will ever go away. Zephir rolled their eyes and put a reassuring hand on my shoulder.
"Things are always in the works for you dear. You're not like the other witches, your emotions won't affect your magic and you're not tied down to rules. You made rings, not just enchanted them but made teh from scratch with intent and intuition of your own. You are in a league of your own so do not me down trodden by lack of control. It will come soon enough so just be patient."
I nodded in understanding. "Thanks Zephir. And I will be a little more vigilant. Wouldn't want to be caught off by any number of vampires coming to this town.'' I joked but it was flat. "You can send me back now."
"Be well Maverick."
Sleep let me go so easily for once that I wouldn't have known it was the early morning even if I had tried. It was such a quiet morning, easy and without Windy, not as productive. I had time for myself so I did something I don't usually have time to. I don't know what that was but I made myself a smoothie for breakfast and had a long bath. That's pathetic and I really did need to know more about taking care of myself. I think deciding to style my hair but braiding it down in straight backs and tying some fabric around some was a good first step. I looked like a regular thirteen year old now.
I went downstairs to get the house phone and dialled Tyler's personal.
"Hello."
"Oh, you're up. I thought you slept in during summer."
"Couldn't. Mrs. Lockwood wouldn't allow that even if I had nothing to do today." I could feel the eye roll through the phone.
"Of course she wouldn't. Look, I called to see if you can come over for a few."
"Alone?" He asked skeptically.
I flare my nostrils, something I did when I was just done. "Get your head out the gutter Bosley 2. I just need to talk."
"Fine. Be over at 1."
"See you then." I hung up.
I wasted the waiting time putting away the ring stuff in my room, putting Tyler's in my pocket, and straightening up. Everytime i put a toy in the bin my heart got heavier with longing but I reminded myself it wouldn't be for forever and I could call her tonight.
Tyler got here at 1 on the dot by himself. "No drop off." I asked.
"You are in a really convenient spot in town, it's almost crazy to ask to be dropped off." He said strolling in. "So what are we doing today?"
"Something special." I grabbed his hand and we left out my back door. I made us trek from my backyard into the sparse array of trees until we got deeper into the woods.
Tyler pulled his arm back before I could take us deeper. "Ok O'Connell, we've been walking for like ever and this is starting to feel like a setup."
I looked around us for the sight of oncoming humans for this time of day but we seemed pretty clear. "We're deep enough."
"Greaaaatttt." He chuckled stiffly.
"Here." I took the ring from my pocket and put it in his hands.
"What the fuck?" He said surprised looking over the silver roots coming from the black shifting T.
"It's a gift. Try it on." I encouraged. I think he was used to the weirdness I had conjured today and decided not to argue. The ring as soon as it came into contact with his ring finger it shrunk to his size like I knew it would.
What I had accounted for was the ring's exact effects. Tyler froze, completely. He didn't move, he didn't blink, he didn't breathe.
Five seconds.
Ten.
Twenty.
Thirty came and he let out an ear piercing scream that almost covered the sounds of his bones breaking. The change was unlike what I had seen in the show for first timers. It was too fast. He shouldn't even be changing.
"TYLER!" I exclaimed seeing his eyes turn a glowing yellow. Tears were leaking down as more bones broke and rearranged. All too fast it was over and standing in Tylers place was a dark brown wolf standing on tattered clothing.
He was skittish, taking in its surroundings while somehow keeping an eye on me. I made the mistake of taking a step forward and the wolf pounced. I barely had enough time to push my magic into my legs to take me away but I didn't fully escape. His claws snagged on my arm and ripped some pretty gnarly marks on my bicep.
He dove for me again and I sidestepped bringing my leg up to kick him in the stomach. I wish wolves stayed down longer but I only had seconds to think. I didn't want to hurt Tyler too badly but he was being too aggressive. I couldn't dodge forever.
He finally was able to tackle me but I crossed my arms at his neck to keep his teeth from eating my face. There was so much magic running through me now I was able to lift my feet and throw him backward. I didn't think he would land on his feet but the boy really was full of surprises. I pulled up more magic to my fists, turned around, looked the wolf in the eyes and slammed my hands on the ground creating a magic shockwave that felt similar to a taser. It even had that effect on the wolf making him twitch until it passed and lay down.
I moved slowly to him so as not to set him off again. Even if a wolf was down they were not out. I stopped a foot away and spoke. "Tyler, you are ok. You're safe." I assured him. "It's going to be ok. Just come back and I'll explain."
The wolf's eyes seemed to clear of their wildness and soon enough I wasn't looking at a wolf but a boy. The clicking and cracking of bones made me a little sick but I powered through it until my friend was staring at me and not an animal. For a few moments he was staring at me before slumping down onto the dirt out cold.
I ran a tired hand over my braids which now had dirt in them.
Well, that went to shit.
Chapter 10-
Tyler POV-
When that ring had tightened on me there was this sense of calm that came first before I felt this other urge in myself to just break free. I tried to fight it. I thought I was stronger. I wasn't.
My bones broke and took me from a person to an animal. I remember feeling scared of what I was. When I looked at Maverick all that fear was replaced with anger.
She did this to me.
My own friend turned me into this.
I fought her, trying to hurt her like she did me and thought I was winning. Obviously after her shock attack I lost.
"Tyler, you are ok. You're safe. It's going to be ok. Just come back and let me explain." I heard her words like they were underwater, muffled by the rush of blood and pounding in my ears but I heard her.
Consciously I knew I didn't want to be this anymore and when I decided that I changed back. I saw her through my human eyes with relief written across her face before passing out. I was tired. I didn't want to think about what had happened or what I had done or saw her do. My body needed to rest and so did my mind.
I don't know how long I was out but I knew it was time for me to get up. I had been laying on her couch and woke up in clothes that weren't mine. They fit but last time I checked Maverick didn't have a brother.
"You're up." Cam from across my shoulder. I saw Maverick holding a bottle of water which she held out for me. I hadn't realized I was thirsty until I saw it and downed it in one go. Maverick had moved from behind me and sat on the other end of the couch. I didn't know what to do and it was just getting awkward.
Great Tyler, Now you can't even talk to girls anymore. What's next, you grow a second arm?
"Tyler, you good?"
I scoffed. "I'm not sure, O'Connell. I just turned into a fucking flea bag and saw you move like the fucking flash when you were dodging me." Speaking of dodging. I looked her over and saw her bicep bandaged up and immediately felt bad. I let out an audible wince remembering just how deep I cut.
"It's not that bad. Hurts like a bitch but it'll scar and I'll be all good again." She smiled.
"Sorry." I said.
"Think that's my line. If I had known the ring would do that I wouldn't have given it to you."
My anger which usually would have gotten worse after I felt it stayed at a normal level. "What the hell was that?"
She looked around trying to find the words. "W-well, the ring was supposed to keep you from transforming every full moon but I think it needed to activate that side of you first."
"That side of me?!" I exclaimed.
"Shit." She swore. "Look, if you calm down I can explain. Everything. Just promise you won't run."
"I would have already been out the door if I thought that would fix anything."
"Fair enough." She turned to face me. "When I was younger I already knew I was a witch. I couldn't do spells and I didn't need my hands to motion magic. My magic was more psychical so I could push it in my body to make me more durable, stronger, faster and at some point I learned to mimic animals. I could copy the sounds they made and made a friend raven named Los. I knew about the supernatural and when you started showing signs of uncalled for anger when we hit puberty I kind of guessed you were a werewolf. I then started constructing a ring for you that would keep you from triggering the curse but… we saw how that worked out." She laughed nervously.
I stared wide eyed at her explanation and was speechless. I was processing and processing and processing until I had something to ask. "You knew?"
"I figured it out. But Tyler," She took my hand. "It is genetic."
I let out a heavy breath. "I can probably guess who the parent is."
"Yeah. Sorry your dads a dick."
"Pretty sure he would be even if he wasn't a werewolf." I felt in my heart it was true. I didn't believe my father had ever been a nice man and being a werewolf just made him more dick-ish. "You mentioned it was a curse. How do you trigger it?"
"You'd have to kill someone." She said straightforwardly.
"Oh fuck!"
She nodded. "The ring was a safe measure to ensure you wouldn't have to shift even if you did trigger it. Honestly I think it should be working how I want it to now. You feel the need to shift?" I shook my head. "Calmer? More levelheaded? Do you feel sick?"
"Yes, Yes, no. I feel fine. Actually I feel better than I have these past few months."
"I'm glad. I would keep that ring on always, especially a full moon just to be safe. I will need you to come back tomorrow so I can test the effects."
"Again." My voice hitched. "Maverick I'm not sure I have another one of those in me. I hurt you, I was a monster-"
"Stop." I did as she said. "Breathe and let it out slowly." I took in a deep breath and slowly released it. "It will be ok. I just need to test your aggression to make sure the amethyst worked. The moonstone should still be powering it but I think it was the labradorite that made you change. My guess is the ring needed to have you as a wolf to fully work. You can change by choice now."
"You won't see me changing for a while then. That shit hurts." I was still aching all around. She rolled her eyes smiling then pulled me in for a hug.
"Thanks for not thinking I was crazy. I haven't told anybody else."
That made me squeeze her a bit tighter. I couldn't imagine keeping a secret like that for so many years and finally have someone know the real me. I also knew she would never hurt me, that she was always trying to help like she did when I needed to get away from my dad or hear the words of a girl not trying to date me.
"I got you Mave. You can tell me anything."
"I have a crush on the Jonas brothers."
I pulled back to pinch her on the arm. "Anything but that." I gagged. She laughed at my antics and finally the heavy mood lifted.
"Whose clothes are these by the way?"
"My night ones. Ain't nothing better than going to sleep in oversized boy clothes."
"For a second I thought they were a boyfriend's." I told her honestly. Like always whenever a boy and her were brought up she respond,
"I am only thirteen Tyler. Too young to date or have boys over. Especially with Windy here."
"Where is Windy?"
Mavericks shoulders dropped and her smile got sad. "She's spending the summer with Petra."
"You really trust Petra with your sister for the summer?" That didn't sound like the over protective Maverick I knew.
"I should hope that a vampire can keep track of a five year old."
"A WHAT!"
Maverick blinked and I knew she knew she just fucked up. "Ok so here's the full full story."
Two chapters, my back hurts, I'm over my cold and I am tired because I refuse to write at a decent hour like a normal person.
