Her face was a mask. There was no expression, no feeling.
That was a lie, she admitted to herself. She did show emotion, around those close to her and sometimes around others. But she only allowed them to see her rare laughter, her cheer. Every once in a while, she might allow a close friend to see that she was upset… but only very, very rarely.
But now, as she knelt in front of the broken haven she had pledged to protect, she did not stop her pain from showing on her face. She could not.
