Summary: At the end of s2e8, Alex turns his back on Yassen Gregorovich for less than 5 minutes, believing him to be dead. However, when he looks again, the only thing left is a blood stain on the carpet of Air Force One. What happened in that time?
How Yassen Gets Away
Slight AU (Alternative Universe). Spoilers for s2e8 of the series. Parts are taken from the TV series and my imagination.
(I rewatched the series last week, and this came to me.)
Yassen only realised he'd fallen unconscious when he forced his eyes open. The girl had called the teen over to the terminal, and the first thing he saw was the back of Alex's hazmat suit as he rushed over to help her. Feeling the wound, he could tell from experience that it was bad, but survivable.
His brief minute of being unconscious notwithstanding.
Yassen rolled over quietly, clenching his mouth shut to prevent any pained noises escaping as he reached with his right arm, scrabbling for the gun. He'd half expected Alex to shoot him - instead, the teen had thrown it away in his haste to get close enough to hear him.
He forced himself upright, gun in his right hand despite the pain, left hand keeping pressure on the gunshot wound. Allowing himself one look into the room, he saw Alex was sitting in the chair, the girl standing beside him, speaking into the microphone. Yassen turned and stumbled over to the stairs (there was nothing he could do about the blood in the carpet).
He managed to get down the stairs without falling, which could have increased the blood loss to an unacceptable level. Yassen straightened up when he got to the stairs exiting to the runway, erasing all traces of pain from his face. He walked down the steps, not allowing his pace to be reduced too much.
"You - move," Yassen ordered to the man standing beside one of the jeeps. The man jumped aside as he carefully got in, belted himself in and started the engine. As he put the gear into first, he could see faint headlights in the distance.
Yassen drove out of Caulfield Airport just under the speed limit, already planning his next move.
Find a SCORPIA approved doctor.
Get back into peak operational condition.
Hopefully get back in time to pave the way for Alex's successful amalgamation into SCORPIA.
He had a lot to do, and little time to do it.
Yassen had managed to succeed in worse odds.
