Light in
the Dark
By
Licentia poetica
"You
must show no fear, erase all sorrow."
Poised,
balanced on the cusp of failure between two absolutes:
Behind him the shattered remains of his exquisite
control, impassable;
Before him
a black hellhole of eternity without her light.
"This
arm is for holding a sword."
Devoured
by monstrous, inevitable death framed in his likeness.
He
rescued, and as the impossible youth embraced her humanity
His
father's fang drove back the demons stealing her light.
"Lord,
she has stopped breathing."
Paralyzing
fear. Inconsolable sorrow. Failed legacy.
His
immense, hoarded power rendered impotent
By the
frailty of the form encasing her light
"Ridiculous."
Impossible
that power was not the answer.
Incredible
that his strength was not sufficient.
Inconceivable
that he would acknowledge his need for her light.
"Rin."
Poised,
balanced on the cusp of agony between absolutes.
Inevitable sacrifice, the choice of the damned
His
darkness shattered by the flame of her light.
