Happy Birthday…

"Uh… Happy birthday, Sakura!"

The pink-haired girl turned to see her blonde team member grinning. He had both hands behind his back – a sure sign he was up to no good. Crossing her arms over her chest, Sakura raised a single eyebrow as Naruto came to a halt in front of her.

"And what are you up to, Naruto? What do you have behind your back?"

Naruto merely grinned cheekily as Sakura attempted to turn him around to see.

I won't let him pull a prank on me! She thought, trying to see what he had. Still… the blonde continued to keep the item from her line of vision.

"Nuh-uh, you gotta wait for your party to see," Naruto answered, grinning so wide his eyes were closed. Sakura growled.

"I swear, Naruto – if you embarrass me tonight… I… well, I don't know right now what I'll do… but just be prepared," She warned. With that, she turned and immediately bumped into their other team mate, Sasuke. Sakura's face immediately flushed, her eyes wide with surprise. "Oh… hi, Sasuke!" Her face broke into a grin as she looked up at the stoic boy in admiration.

She was so engrossed with Sasuke's presence, she didn't notice that Naruto was still standing there, his face now looking downright disappointed.

"Here," Sasuke said, handing her a small box. He looked away from the blushing girl as she held the present in her hands like it was an artifact. "Happy birthday." He turned and walked away, ignoring the multitude of girls who had froze in their tracks at seeing him hand Sakura a present.

"Wow…" was all Sakura was able to say before turning back to face Naruto, whose happy-go-lucky grin had left his face. Sakura's excitement dwindled when she noticed his eyes were dark with emotion. "What is it, Naruto?"

He didn't answer, just turned around and dashed off. She didn't see him as he found a nearby trashbin and toss a small cherry blossom in its depths.

A/N: I'm sorry in advance if any characters are too out of character. I tried to make them as in character as possible, but… -shrugs- Anyway, this is my first attempt at a Naruto fanfiction… so, that's my excuse for any OOC-ness.
