Sixty-Four Pack Crayons and a Built in Sharpener
Four year old Lily Trescott rushed into her pre-school class. She spilled her mom's coffee trying out her older brother's skateboard. She quickly said good morning to her teacher and sat down in the only available table. The boy with chocolate brown eyes and shaggy brown hair looked up and smiled.
Oliver's Point of View
"Hi Lily!" I yell in her face.
"Uh good morning," she says hesitantly.
I love Lily. She's so pretty. She's also a good artist. She can stay inside the lines. I wish she liked me. Then we could get married, like my mommy and daddy.
"I'm Oliver Oaken," I said.
"Oh," she replied.
Then she noticed my pack of crayons. I watched her big blue eyes grow big.
"The sixty-four pack!"
"With a sharpener!" I turned the box around.
"Can I use some at coloring time?" she asks.
"Maybe," I say as a sly smile appears.
"Come on Oliver, I'll do anything!"
"Anything?"
"Anything! Just please let me use them!" she nearly screams.
"Will you marry me?" I ask hopefully.
"Gee, I barely know you. But I'll be your girlfriend for the day," she offers.
It's this or nothing.
"Oh alright," I say.
The rest of the morning went by pretty quickly. I got to hold Lily's hand three times and I shared my cupcake with her during snack time. The more I talked to Lily, the more I loved her.
Lily's POV
This morning I thought Oliver was a creep. Creeps are what my mom calls people on the road when they see her in a tube top. But now I really do like him. He's funny and he's actually kind of cute. He reminds me of my stuffed puppy Spot. And I got to use crayons!
No POV
At the end of the day Lily and Oliver became inseparable. They went everywhere together, except to the bathroom. During car line Oliver gave Lily a kiss on the lips like what his daddy did to his mommy when he got home from the office. Everyone said, "Ewwww! Oliver loves Lily! Oliver loves Lily!" But neither one of them cared.
Miss Chrystal, their teacher, pulled them aside.
"Oliver and Lily. I know you guys like each other, but this is preschool. Kissing spreads germs. You guys can only be friends now. I don't want anyone getting sick. But when you are older, you can kiss as much as you want," she said sternly. Then she gave the two children to their moms.
Ten Years Later
Miss Chrystal looked out her window and saw a blond girl and a brunette boy holding hands. The girl pulled the boy behind a tree and kissed him goodbye. Then the girl skateboarded home her blonde hair whipping behind her.
Miss Chrystal smiled as she recalled that day in preschool.
"You will never forget your first love," she said to herself before closing the blinds.
