Training Hall aboard the Eloquent Destruction

2519, NinthAge of Doubt

"Since we're all here I figured we'd do something productive, let's have a sparring match," Usze commented as he brought out four practice energy swords from his bag. "Since we're all in the same lance, we should focus on what makes us all vulnerable in battle."

Rtas sighed, "Usze, I told you we need to focus on other subjects, rather than on swordsmanship alone." The elite then turned to Rtas.

"I mean no disrespect major, I've taken into account what we discussed," Usze said, then turned to the other lance members. "And with that, I believe this could benefit us all, since N'tho has never wielded a sword before, and who knows if Major Josi has either."

Usze then handed one of the swords to Josi and one to N'tho.

"But think about it, swordsmanship is a Sangheili's pride and honor personified, we lose both of those and our kind does not have much left," Usze commented as he handed one sword to Rtas, which he reluctantly took. "Especially when our lifeblood revolves around combat no less."

"Usze." Josi spoke up.

"Yes sir?"

"I hope you understand that there are other ways that you can fight." The more prominent elite looked at the minor, as he picked up the handle and turned to Usze "I understand what you mean, but a sword is a showcase of power, its symbol is that of great strength." Josi then looked at the three elites and continued. "Personal strength," he commented. "Now, I mean no disrespect to anyone of you, however, that psychotic chieftain had us beaten." Josi then turned his attention to Usze, who was stoic for the most part. "I don't believe a sword would have done any better than what had happened then."

Josi then got up from his seat and activated the sword, the blue hue glowing off his red armor. He then continued, "Also, for that matter, why not use a practice staff instead, I'm not looking to have extra scars, and neither am I looking to hand them out either."

As soon as Josi said this he sat back down on the bench while N'tho got up, "Count me in, although I've never had a sword before, I wish to learn."

Usze smirked "Good! what about you? Major Rtas?"

"I'm fine" he commented.

Usze shrugged, "Very well, come N'tho, we'll start with the basics."

The two elites began with beginner stances, Usze began instructing the basics of swordsmanship to his new pupil, meanwhile, Rtas and Josi were sitting down, Rtas taking N'tho's spot. "Do you think he wants to be a blademaster?" Josi commented in interest while Rtas scratched his neck. "No, I'll admit, Usze's an oddity." He turned to Josi and set the practice sword on his side of the bench.

"He was the top swordsman in his class, his classmates thought he was going to become the next popular blademaster."

"But he refused, correct?" Josi said while eyeing the two elites.

"That's right."

"Did he talk to you about his past before N'tho and I got here?" Josi commented while tilting his head quizzically as Rtas continued. "No, but the reason why I know of this is that he is popular."

"Popular?" Josi said.

"Yes, he and I share a similar educational background, as he graduated with honors in his college. Though I feel that there is something more to it," Rtas spoke, allowing himself to relax as he turned to the training ground.

A short minute passed as the two watched the elites.

Usze gave N'tho pointers on ways to use an energy sword, and although N'tho was clumsy, Usze couldn't help but feel determined to help his fellow swordsman in training. Although he believed that going easy on N'tho would make him a weaker warrior. While Usze informed N'tho of the intricacies of sword fighting, he and N'tho never properly used them, since N'tho was brand new to swordsmen fighting, Usze saw it as unwise to allow the use of practice blades. Instead, he opted for what Josi said and used two training staff's instead, but that didn't mean Usze wasn't going to go easy on him.

They took their positions and began, N'tho started his attack with a low sweep to the legs, but with how sluggish he was Usze jumped over it, and with a quick swing, he swatted N'tho right on the noggin.

"Grhk!"

"You need to be faster than that, my friend!" Usze yelled. He backpedaled away from N'tho to not fall for a trick. N'tho shook off the attack and backstepped away from Usze.

'Fast huh, why be fast when you can go wild!' N'tho mused to himself while he prepared his guard. Usze moved closer to his opponent. "You're planning on uppercutting me as soon as I swing, right?" Usze declared, causing N'tho to blink in shock. What happened next surprised N'tho even more, Usze was right on him, but he never moved, he had his stance in a neutral position but not once did he swing.

'How did he-' before he could finish his thought, Usze pulled a fast jab, hitting N'tho right on his upper and lower right mandibles, as he was stunned by this, Usze then tripped him by pulling the staff between N'tho's legs and pulled, causing the minor to fall.

"Waaghh-Oough!" the elite cried out as he fell, he still held on to the staff while he was on the ground. "Block High!" Usze yelled as he followed his assault up with an overhead swing. N'tho barely caught it as he tried to push Usze off of him, he did, allowing Usze to back away. Allowing the staff to prop himself upright, N'tho maintained his guarded stance.

"Good! You blocked my attack, but don't just wait for me to move, you have to move in as well." Usze said in delight, while N'tho was the opposite "Easy for you to say, this is much harder than I thought!" he yelled while Usze laughed.

"Calling out where to block an attack? He's certainly full of himself." Josi remarked while watching the two elites retake positions. "It may be a tad dishonorable to many, but I feel that Usze's heart is in the right direction." Rtas spoke up, which caused Josi to perk up. "How so?" he asked.

"He's having fun, they both are." Rtas spoke, pointing to Usze. "He's far more alive and animated than when he was earlier." Rtas glanced at Josi and continued, " make no mistake, Usze isn't the type of warrior to gloat." He then pointed at N'tho, "and while N'tho is a beginner, he's following Usze moves, although he is getting hit, I feel that he will get a hit in at this rate." Rtas then turned to his lance's leader "Josi, I don't know how long you've been in the military, but I think that you should pay attention as to how some of these conflicts begin and end, you may be in one of them one of these days." he uttered.

Josi frowned at his comment, but he kept quiet and continued to gaze at the two elites engaging one another. N'tho began the second round with a low blow, a sweep right below the legs. Usze crouched and blocked the attack. Using his staff to take the oncoming blow, he then tried to position the staff behind N'tho's neck. But in doing so, Usze had made a mistake.

N'tho charged right at him, allowing a poke from his staff to hit Usze right on his upper jaw.

"Hrgk!" went Usze. But N'tho wasn't done, he brought his staff low to the ground, allowing his arms to pull up on the staff, and swung high. The blow landed right on Usze's lower right mandible, which caused Usze to flinch.

"Rghhk!"

With this, Usze toppled over. He looked at N'tho and smirked. "Excellent! I'm glad you listed to my instructions N'tho!" Usze rubbed his mandible a bit and got up. "I believe that's enough for now though, I will say though, that was a fine bout brother." Usze remarked with a smirk. N'tho was looked down on his staff, he was pleased to hear that. The two put their equipment away and made their way to their superiors.

"Got that out of you're system Usze?" Josi commented. "Yes sir!" the elite replied enthusiastically to his leader. Rtas frowned at Usze "Next time you do this, you're being thrown out of the lance, now hurry and get you're equipment, the both of you!" The two elites saluted and hustled to grab their gear, meanwhile, Josi gave a quizzical glance at Rtas, but opted to remain silent. Josi then took a look at his datapad and went through his orders one last time.

Hope this 'questioning' will be as simple as it sounds. Josi began speculating on the 'what ifs' of the scenario, though as he continued to ponder at it, someone managed to grab his attention. An unggoy was watching from the exit of the Training Hall. he was a little too fat to be a warrior, but the oddest thing was his outfit. It had splotches of a variety of shapes and colors all over his body and tank. He was a part of the unggoy subspecies Kafv, which is well known as the backbone of unggoy society and more or less the most popular of the grunt subspecies. Though no grunt is well-liked by most, if not all other members of the covenant, they are the most pleasing to the eye, unlike some of their other subspecies brethren like the Ritrit or the Zimzib.

This one, however, looked completely out of it, its eyes were a dull purple, and his gas mask was a shade of pink with blue dots. In short, the thing looked like a mess of colors. Josi caught the grunt staring at them, the unggoy got spooked and fled. To Josi, the fastest he had seen a unggoy run in his entire life. "Hm?" Rtas looked at Josi who was giving his attention to the now-closed exit. "What's wrong?" he asked. "How fast can a unggoy run, I wonder?" Josi commented while still staring at the door.

"What are you talking about?" Rtas confusingly uttered. Josi continued "A grunt, a big one too, was watching us from the exit of the Hall." he pointed at the door. "Know anyone like that?" Josi asked. "No, I don't." Rtas said, his eyes narrowed at the door. The two eyed the door for while longer before Usze and N'tho came back to them, equipment in hand.

N'tho had a needler and a standard-issue covenant carbine, while Usze had a plasma rifle and an energy sword. "Hm? what's happening?" Usze spoke. Josi broke the silence "Don't worry about it, it's something me and Rtas were discussing." Josi stated while scratching the back of his neck. "Why don't you two wait here while I and Rtas get our gear?" he continued.

"Of course, Leader!" the two elites saluted.

Eloquent Destruction's Holding Chamber #2

2519 - Midnight - Ninth Age of Doubt

The four elites entered the chamber holding their suspect, Rtas's equipment included a plasma repeater, a shield gauntlet, and an energy sword. Josi had two plasma rifles and a plasma pistol, none of them had plasma grenades, and none of them wanted a mishap to happen while their mission was underway. Two security guards met them a the entrance, a grunt, who was far too busy looking at his datapad, and a brute, who seemed rather bored. "You four the inquisitive bunch we were told about?" The brute bellowed. Josi spoke up "we are." that caused the brute to narrow his eyes, the beast then crouched down to his partner and whispered something unintelligible to it.

The grunt, who was still looking at his datapad, saluted his superior while not even looking up to see him or the four and opened the door. The brute snorted at this "He'll show you where we've kept our 'guest', follow him." the brute commented, flaring his nostrils at the sight of the four. The Lance followed their little guide to a locked armory.

The grunt then spoke up, "Following the Ministry of Penance's 'Safety for All' measure and in conjunction with the Ministry of Resolution's Code of Honor and Conduct, all weapons, including personal heirlooms, must be held in a secure, locked vault." the grunt spoke in a tired, but informative tone to the four as he looked at his datapad, the little guide then looked at the armed group and looked rather upset.

"Now come on, I don't have all day with you four!" Josi then held up his datapad to the grunt. "I have been given specific orders from the minister aboard the Eloquent Destruction to not let go of our weapons." with this, the grunt bitterly approached Josi. "Let me see!"

The small grunt snatched Josi's datapad rather quickly, and skimmed through Josi's orders, the grunt saw the official orders. He sighed, "alright, but I'm keeping a lookout for you guys." the grunt agitatedly whimpered. "The last warrior we let in here with his weapons near the prisoners got killed, and I got yelled at by the shipmaster because of it, not that careless ape!"

"How many prisoners are aboard the Eloquent Destruction?" Josi quizically commented. The grunt shot a look at the large elite. "I dunno, Three? Four?"

"You don't know how many of you're prisoners are aboard the ship?" N'tho replied. That caused the grunt to be more agitated than ever. "For you're information, they are not mine! That Jiralhanee you met was the security chief here in the underbelly of the ship, and even then, it's not my responsibility to know who enters these cells or not, I'm just a cleaner. That was supposed to be Gimkips Job!" the furious grunt spoke in a very ferocious tone.

Josi continued, "do they usually slack off? How many more of that chief's workers do so?" the grunt snorted at his comment. "My boss does it every day! And Gimkip is no better! I wish those two would get fired already!" the grunt scratched his bald head and continued. "That damn ape treats us other workers so unbelievably poorly, and then that dead-eyed freak just leaves his job to do whatever he wants!" the grunt bitterly said under his breath and lowered his head in defeat. That last comment left Josi speculating.

'Dead-eyed? Hmm…' the large elite mused to himself, the bitter unggoy then broke Josi's concentration. "Follow me…" he said dejectedly as they continued to the holding cells, they were somewhat sizeable boxes to hold some of the larger and rougher prisoners who would defy the covenant. Each cell had a dimly lit ceiling light, while most of the cells were empty, two of them were occupied, one cell held a singular Lekgolo worm, and to the other side of him was one individual Rhutian Kig-Yar, it had some stunning rings on all of its fingers, each ring had small golden chains that are attached to each ring, its outfit was your typical Kig-Yar mercenary battle harness, its feathers were, for some reason or another, a deep dark blue, but either than that he looked like a normal Rhutian.

The dejected grunt then pointed to a cell far removed from the entrance, "Your Holiness… is in the cell farthest to the right. Please don't make a mess for me to pick up." with that, the grunt then left the lance to their own devices. 'Perhaps after this is finished I should go talk to the shipmaster about that Jiralhanee problem.' Josi thought to himself. The lance approached the cell, the occupant inside was already waiting for them.

Everything was going as well as it can be for the Shipmaster of the Eloquent Destruction. Despite the development that had happened earlier with the warlord Vectus, things were, for one reason or another, looking up. He had just finished up with his officers in the command center, and the ship was now reporting back to High Charity. The shipmaster was making his way back to his room, contemplating the very nature of the whole operation. While he was pleased as can be for the mission's success, he could not for the life of him understand why the Ministry of Resolution saw fit to use a CCS Battlecruiser for such a relatively small target.

In the grand scheme of things, the Shipmaster believed that he and his ship, and his crew should be leading the charge against the Banished, those ravenous warlords had carved up a relatively small chunk of occupied covenant space, From Doisac, they united under one Jiralhanee that set the flames of rebellion ablaze once more, Atriox, and his many ferocious warriors.

There were rumors that those monsters were well on their way to Balaho and T'vao, a way to bolster their numbers with the unggoy's favor, and with the matriarchs and their thieving pirates whom they are assuredly responsible for this much the shipmaster believed. 'They can be beaten', that much he was sure of, but it would cost the covenant greatly, it would be since the current Hierarchs believed them not worthy of a confrontation, and would dissipate given time and reasons for them to fall behind their flag would begin to dissipate.

'Fools', he told himself. If history is to be believed, the covenant should take immediate action against all threats who would oppose them. Unless… they do have a plan already, the shipmaster began thinking of ways for them to mount a force strong, courageous, and wise enough to destroy them once and for all. And there was one individual in mind…

The Supreme Commander of the Combined Fleet of Righteous Purpose and the estranged Imperial Admiral of the Covenant Navy, Xytan 'Jar Wattinree. Even thinking about it, If he was tasked with the destruction of the Banished, it would be done in an instant. Either than that, the shipmaster was drawing a blank, no other individual could hold enough weight to their name other than Xytan and Atriox. Perhaps he could try to take this matter to one of the Sangheili councilors and see where it goes.

He stretched his arms from side to side and yawned, all of that planning and believing, however, was for when he got back to High Charity.

*KRSHHK*

"Hmm?" the elite looked down to see he had stepped on a scrap of paper, it was a deep shade of red. Suddenly, a yellow piece, a tad bit larger than the first fluttered next to it. "La La Le La La…" the shipmaster turned the corner to find the entrance of his chambers and saw a grunt hunched over with this paper. "La La Le, hehe, it's my birthday today, won't you sing wishes for me… La La Leee…"

*KRSHHK*

The grunt began tearing the paper more and more, right in front of the shipmaster's door and right in front of him no less, this would not stand for a proud shipmaster of the covenant no less. He stomped all the way to his little guest and shoved him away from his door.

"What do you think you're doing here!" the shipmaster roared at the grunt who could not care less about his superior. "La La Le… would you like some confetti? It's my birthday today and I want everyone to enjoy it… hehe." the shipmaster then picked the rather hefty grunt up by its neck and shoved it into the wall. "You cur! Do you have any idea of the transgression you have com-"

"You were thinking about a way to defeat the Banished?" the grunt muttered which confused the shipmaster more and more. "La La Le… I see, you're small fry in comparison to who I need to Kill."

that did it, the shipmaster had enough of this ridiculous display, he reached down to grab his energy sword and ignited it, and swung, aiming for his neck.

But that never happened, instead of the searing hot plasma slicing his flesh, the blade became nothing more than confetti. This shocked the shipmaster to a state of speechlessness, he took a step back, dropping the grunt on his belly, he then took a glance at his sword, continuously shooting confetti, "Wha- Hah! Wha- What are you!?" he uttered in shock.

The grunt got back up on his feet, "La La Le… a worker aboard the Eloquent Destruction, I work at the prison section…" he walked forward towards the shipmaster, he shook off his shock and pulled out his plasma rifle, and fired.

*PRAPTT*PRAPTT*

The bolts hit their mark, square in the chest. However, the grunt looked completely fine and continued to march toward the shipmaster, "La La Le… it's too late for you I'm afraid, you can't die fighting like a warrior now… all thanks to Birthday Train. . ." as he said this, the elite fell face first on the floor of his ship. He looked down at his waist, and both of his legs were gone, all that remained were bits of paper, "Agghhh! Wha- What is Happening!?" he cried out,

As his entire being was now being turned into paper. Eventually, nothing remained of the shipmaster but gilded bits and pieces of confetti. The grunt then picked these pieces up and smooshed them together in a ball in the palm of his hands.

"La La Le… to answer your question from before, I'm covenant, but on my birthday, I made a wish to become a Banished-Hopeful, so that I would no longer be shackled by an empire such as yours…" he muttered.

He then pulled out a datapad, and pulled a picture up of Josi and his Lance in the Training Hall, he scratched the top of his head and spoke, ". . . Josi Vadamee, If I get rid of you, I'll be one step closer to becoming a real Banished! Then I'll finally be able to have all the Birthday's I desire!" as he chuckled to himself, the large colorful grunt shuffled away from the scene of the crime, allowing the confetti to enter his being, as he did, he felt more focused and alive than ever before. He took one last glance at the shipmaster's door and laughed, all the way to his real target.
