The tension at the Winter Dance started to die down as some of the teachers were busy making sure everyone was safe and accounted for. Present Mic even played some music, just not as loudly just to lighten the mood.
There was a lot of talking and whispering going on around Class 1-A once again. But this time, everyone was worried for the two students who were targeted by the crazy villain. Ever since the School Festival, the students have been much more understanding.
Of course Monoma seemed to be the only one who was ranting and complaining about Class 1-A ruining everything.
Even though Iida arrived late, he brought Mr. Aizawa and Recovery Girl with him to make sure everyone was okay. Luckily, the only ones who got hurt were Midoriya and Uraraka.
Mr. Aizawa told the rest of his class to give them some space as they took care of their injuries and anything important they may need to tell him.
"You two are very lucky your injuries aren't very serious," Recovery Girl told the two of them as she tended to Uraraka's shoulder.
Because of her healing quirk, the only thing that was left was a small, white mark where the knife had penetrated. The bruise on her head and other scratches were pretty much gone. Midoriya's scratches and bite mark were all healed. They were all sitting at a table, with some water and snacks to keep their energy up.
"With how much energy you used up and the blood loss, this was the best I could do."
"Thank you, Recovery Girl. I'm just glad no one else got hurt," Uraraka responded while she gently caressed the scar.
Mr. Aizawa stood on the other side of the table silently as Recovery Girl did her job. Midoriya and Uraraka had never seen him this quiet before, not unless he was asleep during class.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Midoriya asked her for the millionth time as he gently held her hand under the table.
His eyes looked deep into hers, and she couldn't pull away. She placed her hand on top of his and smiled back.
"I'm okay."
"Now that you two are healed up, are you going to tell me who did this?" Mr. Aizawa finally asked very seriously even though he clearly already knew who it was.
Midoriya and Uraraka could tell, but they were worried what he might do if they told him.
Is he going to end the dance early, or... end it for good?
They would hate it if they were the reason the Winter Dance was officially shut down. Not for them, but for everyone that worked hard to put this together and all of the first year students that looked forward to it. After so many infiltrations and incidents, they were really hoping they could somehow move passed this.
"It-It was Himiko Toga, sensei," Uraraka confessed, looking him directly in his quirk cancelling eyes. He didn't even flinch as he let her continue. "Sh-She managed to knock me out and... pretended to be me..."
"I don't think anyone could've seen this coming, Sensei. It wasn't anyone's fault," Midoriya pleaded.
"Maybe not. But something came up awhile ago that I should've paid more attention to," Mr. Aizawa told them as he pulled out a picture, "Someone had been found dead in her own apartment. An apartment around this area. Apparently she had been killed about a week ago."
He showed them the picture, and they both stopped breathing.
It was the girl they spotted at the mall. The girl that Kaminari was flirting with.
Uraraka could feel the picture she was hiding in her dress burning through it. It felt as if Toga was still here, playing with their feelings.
"Witnesses say they saw her walking around afterwards, even talked to a couple of the neighbors. Tell the truth, do you remember seeing her recently?"
Sweat beaded down their foreheads, and they shared concerned looks.
There was no going back from this.
"It was very quick, but I'm pretty sure we saw her at the mall," Midoriya told him, a bit thrown off by this information, "It seems that she'd been planning this ever since. There's no way she could've known about the Winter Dance otherwise."
Their teacher held onto every word he said. Uraraka couldn't stand the idea of the Winter Dance not being a thing anymore. Toga wasn't going to ruin this for everyone.
"Sensei, I know that this kind of interrupted the Winter Dance, but everyone's okay. It's not fair to all the other students to shut it down. So please, don't punish everyone else for something that no one saw coming. Besides, the Winter Dance is all about inspiring one another, right? It wouldn't be heroic to shut it down for good."
Midoriya looked surprised that Uraraka had the nerve to talk to Mr. Aizawa like this, especially after being attacked by Toga. A subtle smile formed on his face as he unknowingly caressed her hand.
He couldn't be more proud of her.
It was always so hard to tell what their sensei was thinking. Part of them wondered if he did it on purpose to throw off his enemies. And his students.
He let out a long, heavy sigh.
"You two don't have to worry. The Winter Dance isn't going anywhere."
Genuine smiles automatically appeared on both of their faces. So much tension and weight was lifted off of their shoulders. They felt like they could breathe again.
"Recovery Girl, are they well enough to perform tonight?"
Midoriya and Uraraka almost got whiplash from the sudden question. They didn't think they'd be allowed or even able to perform.
"Well... as long as they don't over do it, they should be fine," She told him honestly.
"You guys should take this time to go over your performance together. We'll give you two some space."
Mr. Aizawa and Recovery Girl walked off and told Present Mic that they're going to continue the dance. He looked rather surprised, but ready to pump things up.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we are sorry for the... ahem, inconvenience... But! The show must go on! The last two performances will be starting in a about twenty minutes! Can I get a, PLUS ULTRA?!"
"Plus Ultra!"
All of the students cheered and went out of their way to move off the dance floor so the teachers and Class 1-B could get it ready. High energy music began to play over the speakers, getting everyone back into the spirit.
As the two last performers sat there silently, there was something lingering in the back of Uraraka's mind. She never got the chance to show him what Toga left behind.
"Izuku?"
For some reason, that caught him by surprise.
"What?"
"Yo-You called me Izuku," He pointed out, a subtle blush appearing under his eyes.
It actually took a second to realize that she had been calling him by his first name this entire time. She didn't mean to, it just felt natural. Her face reddened from embarrassment.
"I-I'm sorry! I-I didn't mean to! Especially since... you know..."
"N-No, it-it's okay. I don't mind..."
Her bright red face didn't stop her from giving him a sweet smile. She gave his hands a light squeeze and reached for the picture.
As soon as Midoriya saw the collage they both created together, he immediately understood.
"Toga... She took our pictures..." He gently traced the slit in the middle of the picture. "I can't believe she was at the mall."
Seeing their happy and silly faces from that day made it feel like it was forever ago.
"You know, looking back on it... that girl did seem suspicious."
"Yeah..." She responded, lost in thought.
All Uraraka could see now was Toga herself in that girl's outfit. She couldn't help but chuckle a little bit at a certain classmate of theirs.
"What's so funny?" Midoriya asked with his eyebrow raised.
"Who's going to tell Kaminari that he flirted with the enemy?"
Midoriya didn't expect that and laughed so hard he began to tear up. Seeing him laugh that hard caused her to laugh along with him. It felt good to lighten up everything with a good laugh. She hadn't laughed like this since the day that almost incident occurred during their dance rehearsal.
It's so nice to hear him laugh again.
Once the laughter died down, Uraraka remembered something that she meant to bring up before Mr. Aizawa and Recovery Girl showed up. It had been on her mind since Toga took off.
"Before Toga left, did you notice anything... off about her?"
Midoriya was a bit taken aback by the question, but thought about it for a short minute.
"I don't think so. Why?"
"Well... It may sound strange, but I thought I saw her crying."
Uraraka paid attention to his reaction as she told him. For some deep, weird reason, she kind of felt bad for her.
Maybe I'm just over thinking all of this.
But then she noticed Midoriya's expression go from curiosity to pity.
"You probably think I'm crazy like her, but..."
"N-No, of course not!" Midoriya said a little too quickly, "I just... feel bad that she feels the need to do all of this just to... be with the person she cares about."
Uraraka could tell he was having a hard time talking about it considering he's the one she wanted to be with.
"It's just that... she said some things that were... bothering me, and I wonder if I could've done more to help..."
You have everything I could ever want.
Toga's words echoed through her head as she thought about it more and more.
"Ochaco," He caressed her hand as he stared deep into her eyes. "You did everything you could to make sure she didn't hurt anyone. Toga... I don't know if we can help her or not, but you can't beat yourself up about it. If anything, I'm the one that should've done more. I hate myself for not realizing that it wasn't you because... you're my hero, back then and now."
For once, Midoriya was not the one crying. Everything just came out all at once, and she gave him a very needed hug. Without any hesitation whatsoever, he hugged her back. They sat like that for a good few minutes, Midoriya supporting her as she let it all out.
He could understand everything she was feeling at the moment.
As they separated from each other, their faces were only inches away. Her eyes were a little red from crying, and Midoriya subconsciously wiped a tear away from her face.
"Izuku...I--"
"Uraraka! Midoriya! We don't have much time left to get ready!" Iida interrupted, and they immediately separated from one another, "Uraraka, Ashido and Yaoyorozu are waiting for you. They're going to get you ready. As Class Rep., I need to make sure this performance runs smoothly!"
"Oh uh... Okay," Uraraka said back as they both quickly stood up and followed him.
Toga may have been right about hiding her feelings, but she wasn't going to let that drag her down any longer.
Izuku... I want you to know how I feel...
Another chapter! The performance is finally starting!
Awhile ago, I gave a couple hints as to what the song is that they're performing to. Please comment what you think it is. I'll give one more hint: the sequel to this particular movie came out recently.
And I hope you manga readers liked some of the references. I won't give spoilers as to what that means.
It's almost over!
More coming soon!
