"haha man, I should really cross-post nullified to fanfiction sometime. how long has it been again?"

(Last updated: May 18th, 2020)

oh

So... it may have been OVER a year, but that doesn't mean I have a lot written and not translated (for those not in the know/who have forgotten because it's been like 16 MONTHS, this is originally written as an X-reader fic in first person, which is not allowed on Fanfiction so I have to edit it and give the "reader" character a name before I can post it here. which is tedious.). I have actually 11 total chapters, with a 12th on the way. I was hit with some major writers block and didn't do anything for about 5 months before finally going back and changing some stuff to unstuck myself.

TL:DR I'm writing again now so im also hopefully cross-posting this here. if you want to see the updates as soon as they come out, come on over to wattpad and look for my profile on there, p0tat0-g0ddess.

For anyone still reading this series, please enjoy

"Tag, you're it!" Heather let out an angry yell as a hand smacked her on the back of the arm, whirling around in pursuit of the little boy fleeing for shelter

"Pretty sure you're not allowed to do that!" She complained as his sister bolted, having served as a distraction as he snuck up on her. Neither seemed to care, the pair snickering as they ran towards a patch of bushes. Rolling her eyes, Heather took a moment to rest her aching legs before sprinting after them.

"Heather?" A voice caused her to halt in her tracks, and she spun to see her fiancé crossing the park towards her with one hand behind his back.

"Hero!" Abandoning her game, she hurried towards him to give him a kiss on the cheek - prompting several groans from the children behind her. "You're off early."

"We finished a few hours ago. I spent the rest of the afternoon getting these." Pulling his hand from behind his back, Herobrine revealed a bouquet of roses, tied with a red ribbon. "Happy 22nd."

"You sap!" A grin breaking out over her face, Heather threw her arms around him, careful not to crush the bouquet in his hands. He chuckled, closing artificial green eyes as he hugged her back.

"Are you coming?" A third boy yelled from behind her, and Heather pulled back to see the redheaded boy tapping his foot where he stood beside his hiding spot. Sighing, she stepped away from Herobrine, cracking her knuckles.

"Hang on a sec, I gotta grab these kids." Taking off again, she sprinted towards the kids, who scattered the moment she got close. Herobrine just watched, a fond smile on his face.

After another 5 minutes of nonstop sprinting, Heather had rounded up the trio of children, and Herobrine walked them back to their apartment. The blonde cradled the bouquet of roses in her arm, enduring the teasing from her charges about women and flowers. Cliché or not, she did like flowers, especially those from her husband. Fiancé. Something.

More than five years had passed since Herobrine had returned with her to earth. Since then she'd graduated college, moved out of her parents' house, and gotten engaged. While they had gotten married before - together - there was no paperwork, of which so much was required in her dimension, and it was a weird ceremony anyways, so they were doing it again. Plus, this time everyone involved was okay with it.

Herobrine had been living in an apartment for the past five years, working as a construction worker wherever was convenient. While his powers, such as teleportation and calling lightning, didn't work in this dimension, he still had his slightly-superhuman strength. He put it to use making a living for himself - and, more recently, Heather. She did have a job, but it was minimum wage and wasn't quite enough to pay for her own lodging, so she'd moved in with him. It reminded her of living with him in his mansion in the Nether, only with... significantly less space.

He had also acquired a pair of green contact lenses at some point. He looked really different with pupils, and his eyes still glowed so he didn't look quite normal, but it gave him a less-terrifying aura.

The siblings she was watching chattered as they entered the building and made their way up the stairs. Herobrine unlocked their apartment's door, heading inside while Heather made a stop next door to drop off the kids. She knocked, and a beat passed before the door was pulled open by a frazzled, redheaded woman.

"Heather!" The children's mother, Stephanie, gave Heather a warm smile as she came into view, and Heather returned it as her charges slipped through the doorway. She waved her inside, gesturing to a pile of small bills on a table as she hurried to tend to a pot. "Your money is right there, thank you so much for being available on such short notice."

"No problem!" Heather stuck the bills in her pocket, casting a glance around the messy living space. "Nathan, V, do your mom a favor and pick up some of your stuff, okay?"

"Oh, don't worry about it." Steph waved her off, much to the boys' relief. "I'm making a big pot of soup, would you and Bryn like to come over for dinner?"

"We've already got dinner, but thank you for the offer!" Heather shot her another grateful smile before stepping out into the hall. "See you tomorrow?"

"Yes! I'll see you then!" Heather closed the door, then hurried back to her own apartment. Herobrine was already on the couch, work boots abandoned by the door. He glanced over at Heather as she entered the room, shutting and locking the door before heading over to the couch and flopping down beside him. He wrapped an arm around her, gathering her into his side, and she rested her head on his shoulder. For a few moments, neither of them spoke.

"It's Friday." He spoke after a minute.

"Yup."

"Ready to go visit?"

"Sure." Closing her eyes, Heather pressed her face into her fiancé's side, and a familiar buzzing began to ring in her ears as she was transported across dimensions.

Heather found her footing in soft grass, lifting her head to find herself outside Steve's base. He wasn't in view, so the pair of them let themselves into his house and made themselves at home while they waited for him to come back.

"Oh, I see I was unfortunate enough to make a visit during yours. What a shame." A voice rang out through the seemingly-empty house, and her eyes followed the sound to a figure in the doorway. "Heather."

"Notch." She responded easily. Herobrine didn't acknowledge him, but had none of the animosity that was displayed on his face when she first saw them meet about six years ago. If nothing else, he was no longer afraid of him. "Coming to see Steve?"

"Why else would I be here?" Crossing the room, Notch seated himself on a chair opposite. "As are you?"

"Yup." Awkward silence blanketed the room. "...write any good code lately?"

"Heather!" A shout interrupted her attempt at conversation, and Heather jumped to your feet just in time for Steve to appear beside her and sweep her up in a hug. She grinned, arms clasped around his neck as he spun her around before setting her back on her feet. "I missed you."

"I missed you too." Steve lifted his head, and Heather pulled back as he met her fiancé's eyes.

"Nice to see you, Herobrine."

"Same to you." Was his even response. While the pair started out on… not the best terms, they warmed up to each other pretty quickly. At this point, they were at ease with each other's presence.

"Notch!" Steve finally spotted his master. "Good to see you. What brings you here?"

"I just wanted to ask you to test a new item for me." Notch lifts up what looks like a reddish sword. "For the new Nether update."

"Sure." Steve caught the sword as it was tossed towards him, the action causing Heather to cringe away for fear of Notch accidently (or not) sticking her with it. "Where are you two headed after this?" He asked, eyes meeting hers once more. "The summer home?"

"If it can be called that, yeah." Heather's eyes flitted absently to the window, out of which she could see the forest their 'summer home' was built in. "More like 'needlessly large vacation' home."

"You designed it." Herobrine interjected, still sitting comfortably on the couch.

"Well, only sort of. I based it off of… other things…?" He raised an eyebrow at her. "Anyway, we should go." Grabbing her fiancé/husband's hand, Heather tugged him off the couch, clasping his hand in both of her own. "How's Alex doing?"

"She's doing well." Steve smiled. "Built a Nether Portal trail to my base. I never will figure out how she does that."

"Alex is smarter than all of us combined." Heather lamented. There was no argument, just silent agreement.

Without so much as a goodbye, Notch snapped his fingers and disappeared. Chuckling, Steve offered Heather a hand, and she took his in one of hers as he headed towards the door.

Heather looked up to meet Herobrine's eyes as the pair of them were led out onto the lawn. "Two more weeks." She whispered.

"For us, more like two and a half months." He corrected, smiling. "But, yes."

"Are you excited for the wedding?"

"I suppose. But I get to be with you regardless, so probably not as excited as you."

"Well, if nothing else, I'm excited for cake."

"Fair enough." Herobrine bent down to give her a peck on the cheek. Grinning, she tilted her head up to kiss him back.

"Hey, can I get a turn?" Steve interrupted their moment, and Heather looked up to see him giving her husband a Look. "You get Heather every day, I get to see her for a month a year. My turn?" Herobrine eyed him for a moment, eyes narrowed into slits, and Steve withered away a bit. Finally, though, the elder rolled his eyes and released his wife's hand, allowing the miner to lean down and kiss her other cheek.

Grinning, Heather followed Steve through the small, wooded area, towards a huge mansion that was beginning to be visible through the fog. It had started out as a pet project - something for her and Herobrine to do while visiting - but had soon spiraled into a full commitment, on which they spent most of their time in this world. It was over 64 blocks tall, built mainly with dark oak with a smattering of different forms of stone. It wasn't quite finished yet, but was still very imposing, towering over the trees of the forest with spires and parapets reaching up through the clouds.

Swinging Steve's hand between them, Heather closed her eyes, smiling up at the sky. She really was living the dream.

Year 2389

The last block of bedrock broke, and Null tumbled, coughing and retching, to the Nether floor.

Body trembling, the entity looked up, blinking as his glowing eyes readjusted to the light after years upon years of muted darkness. Reaching out to brace his hand on the frame of his prison, Null dragged himself upright, cursing Notch's name with every breath of sulfuric air. He was greatly weakened, his health hovering at half a heart from running out of food so long ago. He just needed to die. Once he respawned, he'd be at full strength once more.

Lifting one foot, Null took a single, wobbly step towards the cliff's edge he could see about 50 blocks away. Removing his hand from his support, he took another, and another, a half-block at a time. Step by step.

He stepped on the side of his foot, and crashed to the ground once more.

Letting out a furious sound, Null shoved himself up, reaching out in search of any mobs in the vicinity. He could sense them, pigmen, ghasts, even… something… new…? But none responded to his call. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't take control of them. Notch must've made good on his threat to take away his connection to the mobs.

Instead, he dragged himself to the cliff's edge, inch by painful inch. A trail of inky blood formed behind him, the sharp netherrack gouging cuts and scrapes in his knees and palms. Finally, FINALLY, he made it to the edge, and, closing his eyes, let himself topple from the last block into the lava.

When he opened his eyes again, he was met by the cool, sweet blue skies of the Overworld.

Free.

He's finally free.
