She Never Knew
Sara walked into the lab filled with anticipation. Today was Valentine's Day. Sara was hoping that Grissom would allow her to break the ice between them. She doesn't know why she's so confident today. Maybe because she was tired of being alone. She wanted to be able to live her own life, no restraints. Sara told herself that if she succeeded, she would take Grissom on a romantic dinner or something, if she didn't succeed, well, let's just say she hadn't thought that far yet. But Sara was sure he would say yes. 'I mean, it's Valentines Day, right' Sara thought to herself as she headed towards Grissom's office.
Grissom didn't have to look up when he heard the soft knock on the door to figure out who it was. He knew it was Sara. He knew because when Greg knocked he made a little jingle out of it. When Nick knocked he always asked if he could come in. When Warrick knocked, the jars in his office shook. And well Catherine didn't knock.
"Come in Sara." Grissom said without looking up.
'Now or never' Sara thought to herself as she entered the office.
"What can I do for you Sara?" Grissom said again without looking up.
"I was, uh, wondering if I could ask you a question."
"Sure"
"Do you want to go to dinner with me tonight?" Sara blurted out.
"What" Grissom said, this time looking up from his paperwork.
"I mean, since it was Valentine's Day, I figured we could go to dinner or something."
"Uh, Sara" Grissom started. 'Uh-oh' Sara thought to herself. She knew where this one was going.
"You know what, just forget it" she said coldly as she walked out of his office. It took all of her strength to fight back the tears.
She never knew it could hurt so much.
