Lilly Evans steeped into view at the top of the staircase, James, who was waiting for her at the entrance to the Great Hall, had to catch his breath. She looked so lovely in her pale blue dress that was just the tone for her complexion. "She's perfect" he thought.

She smiled as she glided down the stairs to him and together they swept into the Great Hall for their last ball at Hogwarts.
With each word

They sat and talked and laughed for a few moments, every time he looked at her James got surer of the fact that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. As the music started he led her to the dance floor and she was encased in his arms. This is way it should be forever he thought as they swayed silently to the music.

At the end of the night James took Lilly in to the middle of the floor, took a little box from his pocket and, to Lilly's amazement, got down on one knee.
"Lilly, I love you. Will you marry me?" he asked with more love in his voice than ever before. She stood in front of him, still shocked by what he had just said. Speechless, she looked into his eyes and at that moment forgot all of the students and teachers that were staring at them waiting for her to answer. From that moment there was just the two of them.
"Yes" she uttered "I love you."
