They were almost there. Come on just a little more. Seji was confused as to why the cannons stopped firing.

"Raios why did you stop firing?"

"Well, Ties-"

"Will you stop blaming her and tell me why?"

"The cannons are jammed Commander!" she cut in.

Out of all fucking times why now?

He sighed, taking out his cigarette and stepping on it.

"Shutorinen, Humbert and Antinous. Come with me."

Tiese followed but Zizek and Raios hesitated before jumping down.

They were immediately yelled at by Lieutenant Corvatz of the Scout Regiment, who Sejirou thought was a numbnut.

"HEY GET BACK UP THERE AND FIRE YOUR CANNONS!"

"We would but uh, they're jammed. Sorry honey." Sejirou fired back.

"Corvatz calm down." A friendly voice cut in.

Finally someone with some sense.

"Did we thin the horde?" He asked hoping they helped a bit.

"Somewhat now we have to do things the old-fashioned way." Kayaba couldn't help but smile.

"I brought some reinforcements if it helps."

"Only three." Sounding ungrateful.

"What I can't just bring the whole district."

"My bad, It's just that some of our soldiers…" Kikuoka looked around and saw some of them more beat up than usual. Bloody hell what happened? Deciding that it was best not to say anything.

Suddenly the Lieutenant was fidgeting tired of waiting for the horde. "SO NOW WE FIGHT!" He got on the horse and flew towards the horde.

"Corvatz…!" Liena was done with his bullshit.

"Kazuto, you refilled?" Liena asked.

"Yes, Captain."

"Go after the Lieutenant, Make sure he doesn't die." She smiled with her eyes closed. Kazuto jumped on Argus and went towards the horde.

He was flagged by the Garrison Commander.

"Yo."

"Uh hello, commander? Can I help you?"

"My men are working on the cannons up there. So if you're clear of the horde, fire a red flare.."

"And..?"

"We might fire if they are fixed…"

"Roger that sir." and he went up ahead

There's no trees? Great, I'm gonna have to rely on the titans. Stupid Corvatz.

Corvatz was terrified he killed a titan but as soon as he landed he was immediately grabbed. He closed his eyes and awaited a terrible faith he wanted to scream but realized it would be fruitless. Then he saw three titans fall like dominoes out of the corner of his eyes. What?

Kazuto did not like this one bit. He jumped off his horse and attached to the nape of the titan swiftly killing it. He knew if he hit the ground he'd be dead so he utilized his boost. Also looking around for a dumbass Lieutenant. He spotted him but was blocked by two titans in front. So he swiftly killed both of them.

He attached to the nape of the titan and killed it while coming from above and slashed its nape. "Kazut-" He grabbed the Lieutenant by his collar and pulled him close. "You pull that shit again and I won't come to save your sorry ass." As he and the Lieutenant jumped on Argus who followed. Argus was fast, dodging each titan's hand while carrying two people, luckily the horde was spread out. Once he was cleared he fired a red flare, as the horde was a little closer it was much more effective than it was last time.

A red flare could be seen. The citizens inside saw it and soon immediately after the cannons started firing once again.

What does this mean? Kazuto please be safe. Midori was worried that if not for Noriko who was comforting her she would probably be in tears.

"Hey, mom." Midori jumped at this. Startled that her daughter was here.

"Sugha, how did you know I was here?"

She sighed, rolled her eyes, pulled a note, and held it out. "You left this here."

"Oh right." She forgot she put a note down.

"There are still some survivors...Raios don't fire the flare." Sejirou told his soldiers to open the gate if they saw a green flare beforehand. It was too late, the flare was fired and the gate started opening.

"Shit!" Raios cursed. Sejirou and the rest who could fight drew their blades and killed off any stragglers. Corvatz got off and joined the fight. Kazuto noticed a berserker managed to squeeze inside the gate. Fuck.

He pulled on the reins harder, speeding up his horse. Argus was fast but not fast enough so Kazuto decided to climb the wall.

The gate was opening. Citizens were confused and made a path for the Scouts. No one came, so they waited and chatted amongst themselves.

"Are they scared to face us?"

"Did they complete their mission early?"

"IT'S A TITAN RUN!" someone yelled.

They saw a titan squeezing into the small hole. Some citizens were frozen in fear, others ran Midori grabbed Sugha's hand roughly and ran along with Noriko.

Surely a titan can't squeeze through? That was what was on everyone's mind.

It did and fear was struck into the hearts of the civilians. It was rampaging everywhere. It picked up a civilian and swallowed him. The garrison soldiers tried to subdue it.

The soldier attached to the nape Gotcha bitch. When he went to slash his blades, What…? Never in his life did he expect that to happen. The titan's hand came at him but he didn't have time to react and was violently smacked into a building.

The giant ate some more helpless civilians and it grabbed a certain black-haired person.

"SUGHA!" yelled Midori as she reached out her hand to grab her but she knew it was fruitless.

Kazuto hoped that his ears were playing tricks on him and he sped up the wall with the assistance of his gear. He reached the top and literally flew downwards towards the titan. He immediately went for the nape but had the same result as the previous soldier. If its nape doesn't work I'll cut its limb. He reloaded his blades and orbited around the titan and spun, cutting off the arm that was holding onto his sister. He didn't try to catch her as his Aunt did catch her. Noticing that the titan had glowing yellow-like veins on its arm. He decided he was gonna do the same thing to the titan that killed Sachi.

Midori grabbed Sugha and backed away and watched from a 'safe distance.

Reloading his blades after hopping on a building he now had its undivided attention. Good. He thought darkly.

"ROOOOOAR" The titan tried to grab him with his arm but he dodged it and attached to its arm and cut it off. NO ONE. He then chopped off the left & right legs respectively. All that was left was its torso. He went back and forth slashing until it was nothing. FUCKS WITH MY FAMILY. He landed gently on its decaying corpse.

Midori and the others couldn't believe what they just witnessed. Kazuto…just how did you train? The others didn't question and cheered.

"Nice!"

"Wow."

"That's Humanities Blade for ya!"

"What drugs do you take?" Of course, there was some disbelief among the crowd.

The gate closed and the Garrison commander was in disbelief, shocked and excited due to the adrenaline he still had after cleaning up the horde outside. Is this what Kayaba saw in him?

Kayaba just smiled. Eugeo stirred under the blanket, rubbing his eyes and sitting up.

"What happened?"

"You just missed the fucking show." Klein responded.

Koichiro and Diavel were also in shock at what they just witnessed. The rest of the Scouts were about to leave.

"Hey, I'm gonna go shower at the barracks ok?" Midori nodded "I'll be home for supper though."

Kazuto was showering and what he saw horrified him. Instead of water there was blood pouring on him. It hurt like hell when he tried to look up so he didn't bother and just let himself be.

"...AZU…!" He knocked on the shower stall.

"Huh?" he jumped up. "What is it Koichiro?"

"We are going to the bar after, wanna come?"

"My aunt's making dinner soon and told her I'd be there…"

"Ah..no need to apologize."

".."

"Well see ya." He closed the door and left.

Soon after, Kazuto went towards the changing room. He put on his black shirt as well as his trench coat that he left at the barracks before the mission. Taking a black plastic bag that had his uniform that he would give to his aunt to wash. Some people looked at him on the street murmuring about him and his jacket.

"Yo isn't he on Kayaba's new S.O.S"

"You shoulda been in Karanese it was crazy…."

Kazuto didn't know how to feel about the praise he didn't deserve. Probably shouldn't have been too extra? Well, it was too late to take that back now. He arrived at his doorstep and had one thing on his mind. What would his family think of this?

Koichiro was at the bar with his squadmates Lind, Diaval and their Sergeant showed up Sheyta who seemed to be talking to Fanatio and a gray-haired woman. He was also observing the S.O.S squad who seemed to be interacting with each other except for Eugeo. He was enjoying his time with Alice. Lucky bastard.

He opened the door "I'm home." Putting his trench coat in the closet. In the kitchen Midori was preparing supper. She turned around and hugged Kazuto.

"Welcome home dear!"

"Hi.." he dropped his laundry bag and immediately hugged her. Midori was surprised by this but gladly returned it. As he hugged her he was thinking back to his recent endeavor outside the wall. Kazuto killed so many titans especially when she showed up. Unconsciously he squeezed her even tighter.

"Ouch! Kazu my back!" He let go and apologized immediately. Midori noticed his laundry bag. "Do you want me to wash your uniform after supper?"

"No, I will."

"How? I haven't taught you."

"Then teach me."

"Sure."

Noriko entered the kitchen with a dejected face and let out a sigh.

"No luck?"

"Nope, she isn't gonna come down."

"What am I missing?"

"Your sister is a bit traumatized from the recent event."

"Oh."

Suddenly Noriko had an idea pop up in her head. Well, this is the best I got. She clasped her hands. Both of them looked at her.

"Why doesn't Kazuto give it a try?"

"What? We aren't close at all."

"Don'tcha wanna get closer."

"Yeah-"

"Think about it, you're her big brother and she's going through a traumatic experience. Maybe you can help her since…" She didn't wanna say it.

"...Alright I will." He stated as he left the kitchen

Midori looked at Noriko. "This could either go wrong or right." Noriko just shrugged in response.

"Only time will tell. Come let's make supper."

Kazuto went upstairs and each time he took a step he got more and more butterflies in his stomach. He eventually ascended but paused before knocking on her door mulling on what to say.

Sugu was in her room on her bed sitting in a fetal position with her head buried in her knees. Noriko just left trying to convince her to come eat but it did not work. She then heard another set of footsteps which she assumed was her mother. What is she gonna say to me?

She didn't feel like answering it. Hopefully, her mother would leave her alone if she did respond.

"WHAT IS IT, MOTHER?! I DON'T WANNA COME AND EAT LEAVE ME ALONE…" She snapped. "...YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I'M GOING THROUGH-"

"But I do…" a masculine voice cut in. He opened and closed the door since it didn't seem like she was going to. He went up to her, sat on the bed twisted his body looking back at her.

"...I don't want to eat."

"And what kill yourself?"

Better than living with this pain. "Sugu, please…I can't help you if you don't talk to me." She looked up and her eyes were blotchy.

"When I was in the bathroom I felt like I was going to be grabbed again…I feel like if I leave the house…that titan is gonna grab me. It sounds stupid.." Kazuto listened intently after all he could somewhat relate.

"No, It doesn't. Can you keep a secret please?"

"Why?"

"Because mom's gonna fret over me if she finds out."

She nodded.

"You know…when I saw my mother get eaten…I stayed in my room because if I left...I thought I would see it again and I didn't wanna see it again so I shut myself in…" He looked away with a beet-red face embarrassed.

"..that's why I hated going to school earlier-" Kazuto quickly shut his mouth as he didn't wanna make it about him. It was his sister who was suffering.

"So how did you overcome it?"

"I distracted myself by picking up new hobbies…like cooking. Also signed up for the cadet corps."

"Oh yeah I tried your fish, It was good." She had a genuine smile. Kazuto was happy to see that she didn't laugh as cooking was more of a girl's thing.

Kazuto hugged her. "Wanna come down?"

"Give me five minutes."

He got up and left her room and went downstairs.

"So how did it go?" He was immediately asked by his aunt as he entered the kitchen.

"Give her some time she's coming down." sitting down on the chair resisting the urge to eat. Noriko set the table and Midori put out the Mac and Cheese.

"Kazuto you are a miracle worker. So how did you do it?"

He chuckled, "Guess you'll never know." leaning back on his chair.

Five minutes later Sugha came down and sat at the table. "What are we eating?"

"Mac n cheese."

They picked up their utensils and started to eat. None of them spoke a word, so engrossed in their meal.

"Kazuto, good job back there," Noriko said.

"Hm? Where?"

"In Karanese."

He immediately recalled it.

"I don't know what would have happened if you hadn't made it in time." His aunt chirped in.

He glanced at his sister. Did I tough? Sugha has trauma now because I wasn't fast enough.

"Well let's not think about that!" Noriko clapped her hands. "Sugha dear, can you help me with getting the desserts?"

"Sure." She stood up and collected the dirty plates and put them in the sink.

"Kazu.." She had a stern look on her face but he could see hints of worry.

"Yes?"

"What you did was great and all but…"

"But?"

"...don't be too reckless and-"

"I'm not planning on dying until every single one of them is dead."

"...I know but still I worry for you, I think of you as my own-"

"Don't say it. You can never replace my mother."

"That was neve-"

"Desserts here!" Noriko shouted as she entered the dining area carrying pound cakes. She could sense something was off but didn't say anything. She put down the poundcake in the middle of the table while Sugha poured everyone tea.

"So..how did you um do that?" Sugha started the convo as she looked at Kazuto from across the table.

"Hm…" He lifted his index finger as he was swallowing a piece of cake. "...I just did it.."

"But like how or when did you know you could?"

"When…" he paused. When I let Sachi die… Midori knew he was stuck on his words and chimed in.

"Sugha…do you not know he works out a lot plus mandatory training every day?"

"Oh yeah."

Thanks… "Yeah, that." They enjoyed their supper talking about various topics throughout the night.

Kayaba was in his office that night. Filling a ton of accident reports and adjusting the budget. He felt like shit after a newly single woman came to him and called him the worst human. Of course, it didn't bother him as he stopped feeling that emotion a while ago. The door opens and the captain appears in casual clothing, wearing a red blouse.

"Need help, Commander?"

He looked up at her taking in her figure Damn… He looked at a certain place and was caught.

"Hey, eyes up here commander."

He immediately looked up at her eyes, clearing his throat. "My apologies."

"It's ok, It's my fault for dressing up like this in the first place." She had a sullen expression on her face.

"You look like you need to get something off your chest."

"Uh..do you need help with paperwork..?" Kayaba knew she was trying to change the subject but today he did not feel like prodding Touche

"Sure-" The door opened revealing Lieutenant Corvatz who was also wearing casual clothing.

"I have a complaint about Private First Class, Kirigaya."

"Do tell?" He twirled the pen in hand.

He explained the situation of what he said to him when he was in the horde.

Kayaba was dumbfounded but did not show it. "I mean you rushed into a horde and almost died if it wasn't for him."

"But-"

"Stop being such a snowflake, He was probably frustrated at you for doing some dumb shit like that I mean come on your his commanding officer." Sortiliena interrupted.

Oh? Corvatz had an idea popped into his head.

"Right…" The Lieutenant left accepting defeat.

Kayaba put his pen under his nose and was now thinking deeply while staring at the ceiling. The female titan. Could she possibly be like Eugeo? I mean she covered her nape so she has intelligence and she knows how the gear works. A spy perhaps?

"Commander…?" having a confused expression on her face "..what you thinkin' bout..?"

He looked at her "Nothing, wanna help me fill out accident reports."

"Surrrrrrre, my favorite pastime." with a hint of sarcasm added. She grabbed a pen and got to work. They also chatted the night away.

The next morning Kazuto was heading out for morning training. As he was headed to the public wagon he was stopped by a certain redhead.

"Hey Kazuto." she waved at him coming closer and walking along with him.

"Sup Roselia."

"Wanna hang out after training?" She looked around the other way while twirling her hair in the process.

"Uh, I'm gonna finish really late."

"Doesn't training end at like five?"

"Yeah but I like to do extra"

"How about after..?"

"I'm going to Dicey's with the boys."

"Hm?" she made a confused face.

"It's a cafe we go to and I promised them…"

"Can I come along..?"

"Uh sure let me ask them."

They made it to the public station that was utilized for taking individuals who did not have access to a horse to transport them to a district or village. Eugeo and Koichiro were smoking while waiting.

"Ayo, who's that?"

"Don't look at me Koichiro, I'm just as surprised as you."

"Heyo." Kazuto and Rosalia approached them.

"Hello Kazu and…"

"Rosalia." She introduced herself.

"Hey, how are you?"

"Good."

"By the way, Koichiro she wanted to come to Dicey's. Is that ok?"

"I don't see why not."

They said their goodbyes and hopped on the public wagon. As they were riding towards Ehrmich District to go to factory city because the training forest was near there.

"Where's Eiji and Klein?"

"Eiji lives in Stohess and he uses his horse since he has a horse stall. Klein is gonna meet us at Ehrmich."

Who the hell is Klein? Thought Koichiro but he had a better question. "So her name's Rosalia?"

"Yep."

"So are you guys…"

"No no, I still need time, it's too soon and I wanna take things slowly. Need to focus on me." Looking at the floor and taking a deep breath, recalling the recent events. Holding his hand as he rubbed his left thumb over his right palm.

"Ah, I see. Yeah, my advice is to focus on yourself before getting into a relationship."

Eugeo looked at Koichiro. "Playing big brother, I see!"

They started chuckling. "Of course you guys are like family."

They arrived at their destination. Walking to the horse stalls.

"You know, since there is a horse stable outside every district, why don't we move our horses there? I mean it'd be easier." Koichiro suggested.

"Will have to inform the Commander," Eugeo suggested.

"Hey, guys!" waved Klein.

"Sup."

They conversed about their daily lives and whatnot.

"So..your sister does kendo?"

"Yeah she can beat your ass Klein so don't try anything."

"I have a girlfriend."

"I know just teasing." He chuckled. Climbing his horse and getting it ready to ride.

"Hey, let's race there!"

"You're on Koichiro!" Eugeo started galloping ahead while Koichiro followed behind. Kazuto just chuckled at the scene before him.

A couple of weeks later Kazuto and his squad were invited to a meeting by the upper command.

"...we might have some spies within the military."
