It was Celine's first sunrise in 600 years, and she wanted to enjoy it. She stepped out of the castle just as the orange sphere that, for centuries, spelled death for her began to rise from the horizon. The golden light flowed over the landscape like a hazel marmalade. It warmed her flesh in a way she'd almost forgotten. Her eyes took in the sight in astonishment. What have I allowed myself to miss, she thought.
From behind her a pair of strong hands came forth to embrace her with gentle tenderness. As Michael held her and they peered into the world together she thought, Now, it is complete. She turned to him with joy.
"Let's stay here." she said, " we can make this our home. We'll rebuild this place and live out the rest of eternity here." He simply smiled.
"Michael and Celine," he said, "the first and last of their kind."
