Christine returned to her cabin late after a night of dancing and dinning with Raoul. He had asked many times that night if he might join her in her cabin for one last drink, but she refused him knowing that there may have been other motives. The night had made her uncomfortable being out, because she felt like someone was watching her and it reminded her of the old lady. She shuddered and began to undress.
It had been a month since their departure and Christine had discovered that she loved the ocean almost as much as she loved opera. She loved to watch the dolphins race the ship and see whales in the distance singing to each other. At night the moon's reflection would shimmer in the water like a giant pearl floating on the gentle waves, but no matter how much she loved the sea, she stilled loved the opera house and Erik more. She was so homesick that she felt nauseous and sometimes threw up when she woke up in the mornings. Raoul blamed it on motion sickness, but Christine knew this wasn't true.
Erik had been watching her the whole time. Everywhere she went he would be there in the shadows watching and trying to restrain himself from hurting the Vicomte. The small touches and shy glances the Vicomte gave Christine were enough to make Erik sick. It was only a matter of time before he went crazy and killed the boy. Erik noticed Christine had been turning early lately and though he was great full, he was also worried about her. He slept down below where the servants lived and where no one would question his presence. It wasn't home, but it would do. He decided that soon though, he would make Christine aware of his presence and steal her away.
Christine soon found out after going to bed that she had no desire to sleep. The motion of the ship and her dreams were too much to let her rest in peace. Giving up, she threw on her coat and headed for the deck for fresh air. It was a beautiful sky with tons of stars glittering overhead. There was a breeze, but her coat kept her warm. There was hardly anyone on the deck seeing on how it was almost two in the morning. She walked to the railing and took a deep breath and then gave a heavy sigh.
Everything was perfect, the ship, the trip, the moon, but she was not happy. She felt horrible for not enjoying herself and making Raoul worry, but she couldn't make herself stop think about Erik. He was the only thing in the world that could make her happy and she was so empty without him. It had been a month since she left him and a month since she felt his body next to her's. Every night she dreamed about the night they had shared together and longed for it to come again.
'A month,' Christine thought to herself. 'That can't be right. If it has been a month then...'
"Christine?"
