This was done for a drabble meme in Dawningstar's livejournal. So thank you to her for inspiring it.
Once again, yes I'm still alive. I'm slowly working on my fics-- both "A Fortuitous Blunder" and "In More Ways Than One" will be updated before the end of the month. I'm making sure of it. :)
Oh yes, this drabble goes by manga canon. Meaning, I know they kissed in the second movie. I loved it. But for story's sake this follows the manga where alas… they have not yet kissed.

Kiss

Despite popular belief, their first kiss was not planned. Their observing comrades had thought so, for surely the inexperienced pair could not be so impulsive.
However, it was not. As she wrapped her arms around him in a relieved embrace, the overwhelming emotion of the moment got the best of them. Between whispers and yells of each other's name, intermingled with reassurances that all was well...
InuYasha and Kagome's eyes met, and with what seemed like a silent understanding- they leaned towards each other.
They felt the blood rush to their cheeks as their lips made contact- innocence reflected in the unsteady awkwardness of their movements.
It was a kiss of life, of relief, of realized dreams, and of victory.
Around them, the putrid scent of death filled the air, but they ignored it. Ignored the torn battlefield, ignored the scrapes and wounds that covered their bodies. They would heal.
As they pulled away and let out a breath of suppressed air, they clasped each other's hands and smiled.
This was happiness.
Naraku was dead, and now they had what they had wanted all along--
Each other.
