"In the beginning of time itself, there was a powerful spiritual family known as the Guardians. Vastel, their father, used his immense power to create Reigal, a world brimming with life and harmony. Then he made Vastel, a continent that resonated most strongly with his power."

"Vastel named his eight Guardian children the Vastel Guardians, entrusting them with the growth and prosperity of all life in Reigal. In order to keep Vastel's peace and harmony intact, Vastel required his eight Guardian children to take an oath."

"Honoring this pledge, the Guardians set out to help humans and the faunus create their civilizations, histories, and cultures. The continent eventually became divided into four ruling nations, each of which possessed the authority of two guardians."

The moon-lite sea's nation, Vulna, was ruled by the Guardians of Darkness and Water.

"Igarus, the land of fiery light, was ruled by the Guardians of Light and Fire."

"The storm and mountainous nation of Sokkitia was ruled by the Guardians of Thunder and Earth.

"And Staneia, the home of the frozen winds, was ruled by the Guardians of Ice and Wind."

But the Guardians' attachments to the mortal beings grew as they observed the development of both human and faunus-kind. The Guardians had become less willing to punish any mortal, whether they be human or faunus, for upsetting the balance of the world over the three hundred years since Vastel's creation.

"The Light Guardian grew tired of this and warned the other Guardians of the impending danger brought on by their compassion for mankind. She reminded them that their father had commanded them to punish mortals for any transgressions, particularly when doing so endangers the tranquility they had established.

The Dark Guardian allayed the Light Guardian's fears by establishing special mortal factions whose sole purpose was to keep the peace on their behalf by spreading the Guardians' teachings to mortals. The Pretorius were created by the Light Guardian, whereas the Therions were created for the Dark Guardian.

"However, the fire that was sparked was unabated. Pretorius and the Therions came to hate one another. The world was torn apart by numerous wars over the course of the following three hundred years, 400 years after its creation. Small differences between humankind and faunus kind led to conflict. On the once-beautiful soil, too much blood was shed. The wars were wreaking havoc on everything the Guardians had worked so hard to preserve, including the sea, the air, the plants, and the animals."

"Vastel was enraged and dissatisfied with the Guardians. This tragedy befell the world he loved because of love for the mortals. The harmony they had worked so hard to preserve was now just a distant memory...until Vastel did the unthinkable..."
