A Cause for Celebration
By Kelly O'Connor

Kagome sighed as she traipsed the village. Around her, the light of torches dotted her vision and the sound of laughter filled her ears.

The cause for celebration?

Naraku had been defeated.

But there was one significant person missing from the festivities.

InuYasha…

Gasping, her thoughts were interrupted. She unexpectedly felt InuYasha's hand tug on her arm and found herself in one of the village huts.

"I've been looking for you."

"Kagome, we… need to talk."

"Huh?"

InuYasha sighed, working up the courage to discuss what preoccupied his worries.

"Now that it's over," He began, tentatively, "why… would you come here anymore?"

Kagome blinked. "InuYasha, why wouldn't I?"

"Because you don't need to," he mumbled.

There was a pause of silence before Kagome spoke.

"For you," She clarified.

"What?"

"You're more important to me than completing the Shikon or defeating Naraku," Kagome explained, voice rising as she gained confidence. "The only thing that could keep me from coming back is…" she took his hand, "if you weren't here."

"Kagome…"

With a tug on her sleeve, Kagome found herself in the bashful arms of her Hanyou companion.

And it was at that moment that she felt the celebration had truly begun.
