Summary: She always came. The silent onlooker to his vigil, quiet comfort and reassurance while a part of him relived long ago grief.

Standing back as to give him privacy, Kagome watched as he stood before a crude stone engraved with childish hiragana. His head bowed, a bouquet of hastily gathered lilies in his grasp.

She always came. The silent onlooker to his vigil, quiet comfort and reassurance while a part of him relived long ago grief.

She held flowers, white chrysanthemums. When InuYasha left, she'd lay them down. Paying tribute to who'd raised the boy she held so dearly.

Today he whispered; words Kagome couldn't hear. Of adventures, life, and she wondered… if InuYasha spoke to Izayoi of herself.

"Mother, I want you to meet someone…"

Turning, his tentative eyes met Kagome's.

"You… always come, but… you've never met each other."

She stepped up.

"Mother, this is… Kagome," he paused shyly, "I've… told you a lot about her." She's very important to me...

Question answered, a touched Kagome lay her blooms upon the gravestone. InuYasha followed suit.

Thanks Izayoi, for everything… I hope I can care for him even half as well as you did…

Linking her arm with his, Kagome smiled, the pair walking into the surrounding forest.

And on the grave the stems of two bouquets intertwined with one another.
