Another 'home' piece. This one is because the theme at iyfic challenge was home. Otherwise I wouldn't have done another. :)

Oh, this (obviously) takes place several years in the future. I'd say around 7-10 years.

Someone to Call Home

By Kelly O'Connor

"I'm going home now, Miroku" InuYasha stood up and brushed his backside off.

"Ah, so soon?" the older man quirked an eyebrow in reply.

"I told Kagome I'd be back when she got home from work…"

"Very well then, will you and Kagome-sama be visiting for an extended time anytime soon?" The houshi queried.

"Don't know, I'll ask…" he shifted the empty satchel onto his back.

"Thanks for the new medicine box." Miroku stood, placing his hand on the shorter man's shoulder. "Take care, InuYasha…"

Giving a half-smile, he returned Miroku's gesture. "You too."

Pushing open the hut-flap InuYasha stepped out, beginning the trek back toward the well.

Towards home…

His gaze flitted across the lush-greenery that flecked sengoku jidai. He enjoyed visiting this era, but to him it was just that, visiting.

I didn't have a home, but I did live here. Coming to the well, InuYasha paused, staring above to the afternoon sunlight. Almost everyone moves away from their original home… I'd guess.

Sliding over the well's lip, he leapt in; the velvet-blue engulfing his form.

Kagome has a home, she always has. Landing on the modern side, he climbed the ladder up and made his way out the well-house. It's here…

"You want to stay here?" She inquired, placing her hand upon his cheek.

InuYasha's eyes wandered to the golden-jeweled band on Kagome's left-hand. "I like it here," he spoke truthfully, moving his fingers up to rest on top of hers. "I've got nothing there and it'd be wrong to ask you to give this up…"

It wasn't a rash decision. He'd subconsciously made it years before- his home would never be a place, but a person.

Her era never ceased to yield new discoveries beyond his comprehension. However, over time he had grown to adjust to these unfamiliar things. He did not mind doing this in the least. InuYasha was eager to learn, eager to learn because it was her home.

"InuYasha, there you are," an affectionate voice followed by a squeeze around the waist interrupted his thoughts. "I just got back from work. Welcome home," she reached up and tapped him on the nose, continuing that gesture by leaning up for a kiss.

Returning the action fully, InuYasha slid his eyes closed. I'm home… always home.
