"Little witch."

Bonnie was seated at Rebekah's vanity, brushing her hair, when she spotted Kol leaning against the door frame.

"Hey." The witch hoped she sounded calmer than she felt.

A weird shift had occurred between them since the previous night. He walked her home, let her go to bed without any flirtatious comments, and added her on Instagram. Later, when he approved her request, she creeped on his profile to find only pictures of himself and his siblings, his niece, and his friends.

Bonnie laughed at a picture of Hope and Kol. Chocolate was smeared all over the little girl's face and Kol stood beside her with a shirt covered in cacao powder. She 'liked' the photo and moments later, she received a direct message from him.

KingKol has sent you a photo.

She almost expected a dick pic, but instead it was a Harry Potter meme.

KingKol: "What house do you think I would be in?"

BonnieBennett: "You have to ask? Slytherin."

KingKol: "I'm torn between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor for you, little witch."

BonnieBennett: "I'm a Hufflepuff."

KingKol: "Undying loyalty to your comrades. The shoe fits."

She had slipped into a more comfortable level with him and yet somehow the tension between them had grown; it felt heavier now.

She noted his all-black look. A black henley, black jeans, and black boots. He was holding a large book tucked under his arm.

Fuck, he's sexy.

His hazel eyes gave her a once over as well. She tried her hardest not to fold beneath his gaze and put her brush down. She turned in her seat to give him her full attention. "What's up?'

"I brought something that might be of good use for you, little witch." Kol strolled across the room and placed the heavy book on top of the vanity counter. His familiar heady scent enveloped her senses.

Bonnie carefully collected the book from the vanity and stared down at its titleless cover. The book was old and dilapidated, but upon opening it, she immediately realized what it was. A grimoire. She scanned the contents for a name and Kol guided her to the bottom corner of the page with his finger.

He was leaning over her now and Bonnie grew tense from his proximity. Kol smiled as his arm lightly grazed her shoulder.

"Elesia Bennett."

This belonged to a Bennett?

He watched in the vanity mirror as her eyes lit up with realization and he felt rather happy with himself, but chose to reign it in.

"I don't understand." She whispered softly, surprised. "You're giving this to me?"

She stared at him in the reflection of the mirror with shock.

"It's with its rightful owner now." He stated plainly. "And you're certain to get better use out of it than us muggles."

She was smiling now and hugged the book close to her chest. "How did you get this?"

"I was rather friendly with the Jasper Coven in the 19th century. They gifted it to me then, but I'm not sure how they came into possession of it."

Bonnie remembered their conversation at the gala. Kol had told her he had an affinity with witches.

"Thank you." It was all Bonnie could manage to say. She was still processing the vampire's generosity.

He nodded his head and she flipped through the pages. The grimoire was filled with runes she had never seen before. It would take ages for her to understand any of it, but she was grateful to even have the opportunity to do so.

"This is all foreign to me." She admitted and he tilted his head to get a better look at what she was staring at.

"That's a contraceptive spell." He chuckled, pointing at the ruin. "To prevent pregnancy."

Bonnie blushed and narrowed her eyes. He had to be fucking with her. "And how exactly do you know this?"

"That's an ancient Norse rune. My beloved mother used these types of runes heavily." Kol explained.

"Clearly not this one." Bonnie couldn't stop the words from leaving her mouth. How many Mikaelson siblings were there again? Seven? She'd lost count after they kept showing up. She grinned sheepishly with an apology in her eyes, but Kol was far from angry. The vampire laughed.

"I suppose mother kept trying until she achieved perfection." He gestured to himself with a twinkle in his eye and Bonnie rolled her eyes.

His arrogance knew no limits. Still, it was incredibly thoughtful of him to give this to her. "Could you teach me?"

"If you insist." He smiled and walked over to Rebekah's bed. He gestured for her to join him and she brought the grimoire along with her.

Checkmate.
