Blind

He held him close, muscles tense and ready to move if necessary, as rage boiled his insides, as fear and worry ate at his heart. Kurogane kept his hands on him, supporting the man and -in turn- reassuring himself that he will not just disappear as the little princess did before. He stepped even closer to the blond, protective and defensive. Fingers twitched as soft locks tickled the calloused palm gently, and he buried his fingers even deeper in his hair, unconsciously finding some comfort in the sensation it provided.

Stupid mage

The wheels in his head were turning at full speed as he tried to wrap his mind around what Yuuko was calmly explaining; what she was asking of him and what he had pay this time. He could hear Fai panting, erratic breaths painfully taken as he suffered the pain with each heart throb and the blond wished for it all to just stop.

It hurt.

His whole body felt numb while his left eye burned and screamed; the pain was much greater for Fai to register as he laid still in Kurogane's arms, two large hands bringing life back, painfully, to whichever area they touched. Air stuck in his throat and he gasped, pain flaring even more, and his eye widened open while the other lid stayed closed, swollen shut over a hole that nothing could ever fill again.

He took another shaky breath as his body shivered, sweat breaking out all over his body as cold washed over him. Fai tried to listen to what the witch of dimensions was saying, but found himself zoning in and out as the pain increased, barely able to make a few words but successful in understanding what she had in mind.

No. No.

A croaked out plea was met with a roar, and Fai silently resigned to his fate, resigned to his wish, letting his eye drift shut as black spots danced before him. Graceful footsteps were heard as someone approached him and Fai furrowed his eyebrows, attempting to concentrate on what was going on, on who was around him; on anything that was not the sickening pain that made him shudder.

One of the warm hands was removed and he struggled to open his eye, which snapped open once a drop of thick liquid splashed against his dry tongue. He could see the blood dripping down a tanned wrist, and suddenly the coppery taste registered as Fai swallowed the vital fluid of two different lives.

He gasped.

It burned his throat as it slickly trickled down, and he felt the other hand push him up a bit further, one of his shoulders coming to rest on something solid, something warm. Fingers caressed his scalp and Fai screwed his eye shut as more blood moistened his tongue, his mind whirling and body on fire.

And despite of the remaining blue eye, Fai was certain of one thing...

it was just as blind to what may come.
