A/n: Hey, Dani here! Anyway, here's another Freddy/Katie fic. This is a oneshot based on the song "Replaceable" by The Killers. If you noticed, I've been basing fics on songs by them. I'm on a Killers high, basically so… if you don't like them, sorry. :p
Disclaimer: We all know it doesn't belong to me.
Looking at her from across the noise-filled room, Freddy felt a pang of pain pierce through his heart. He downed more beer and stepped outside --- away from the party, away from her and away from heartache. Unbeknownst to him, she saw him step out. She then excused herself from her company.
He was looking up, into the night sky. It looked as if he was wishing to a star; wishing something good to happen. But she couldn't tell as his back was to her.
"Freddy." As soon as he heard her voice, the memories came flooding back to him, crushing his heart even more.
"Can we – can we talk?" she continued.
No answer.
"Um," she hesitated. "How are you doing?"
"I'm hanging in there." He finally said. "I'm… I'm hanging in there." He was lying. Time taught him that. To lie, to pretend that nothing really mattered anymore. In truth, nothing was fine with him. He's broken. And she was the one who broke him.
She nodded and turned to return to Alicia's 22nd birthday party. But before she could walk out on him, he stopped her. Something he said stopped her.
"Why? Why'd you do it?"
Silence. Sobbing. And silence once more.
"Do you know that you've shattered everything? What we had, my trust, my love? Me?"
"I'm — I'm sorry, Freddy. I'm sorry, okay?" she choked back the tears, still not facing him.
"You didn't even say goodbye."
"I said I'm sorry!" she whirled around, eyes glistening from the tears, now freely falling from them.
He wanted so much to take her in his arms, kiss her and forgive her. Let things go back to the way they used to be. But he couldn't. He didn't want to get hurt again. Not by her.
He approached her, leaving his beer on the banister and placed a hand on her cheek. Gently, he wiped away her tears, just like he used to.
"Can't we be friends again?" she sobbed. "Like old times."
He held her chin and leaned in as if he was about to kiss her. But he stopped centimeters away from her face.
"I'm sorry. We can't." he whispered, tickling her face with his breath. "You made me feel useless. Look at me. I'm dying. Every time I think about you I just – We can't be friends anymore. I wouldn't heal. And I can't go on in life like this," he said as he brushed away a loose strand from her face.
"Just go back to the party now. Go back to him and act like nothing ever happened between us. Pretend that I was never your first kiss, your lover, your best friend. Make believe that I never knew you, never loved you." His voice now shaking, but he had to do this. He had to move on.
He stepped away and looked at her dead in the eye. "I can't believe you replaced me. And you know what the worst part is?" he chuckled slightly. "He looks like me."
He tried blinking away the tears, but a teardrop fell from his eye. "But I'm glad to see you're doing fine without me. Goodbye, Katie."
A/n: This one I find kind of melodramatic. What do you guys think?
