What the Ancients Did Not Create

"Do you want kids?"

"Hmmm? Hey!" John covered his eyes. "Warn me next time you're going to turn on the lights."

"I was just wondering," Rodney turned over in bed to look at his lover. "You seemed to really enjoy baby-sitting Elizabeth and Carson's kid today. I was just wondering if you wanted kids."

John groaned leaning back in bed. "What, did you find a device in your lab that makes men pregnant…" Rodney made a noise that sounded like gagging. "Or turns men into women long enough to get pregnant and have one?"

"Eww. I think the Ancients had more important things to do than figure out ways to make men pregnant. Where do you get these ideas?"

John rolled over on his side with his back to Rodney and turned off the light. "Let's just say the internet is a fascinating, yet scary place."

There was a long moment of silence before Rodney's voice interrupted John's slumber once again.

"You'd probably be the best one of us to carry the kid."

"Why would I be the best person to carry this kid?" John thought he must be sleep deprived to allow this conversation to continue. John turned on the lights this time getting the same irritated reaction from Rodney that he gave earlier. "Well?" John pressed.

"I have a low pain threshold," Rodney reminded him with a note of irritation in his voice.

"I don't want to be pregnant for nine months," John's voice was whining.

"Maybe you wouldn't have to be."

"Yeah right," John's voice was sarcastic.

"What?"

"The women around here would kill us if we didn't have to be pregnant the full nine months."

There was a very long silence this time.

"Rodney," John looked at his lover.

"Yeah?"

"If you ever find a device like that, I want you to dial up any gate orbiting space and throw it through the gate."

"Agreed."

"Do you want kids?" John asked this time.

"No."

John smiled hearing a nervous note in Rodney's voice and pulled him closer to his side. "I don't either. Baby-sitting Tommy was great today and there are plenty of kids around," he felt Rodney relax in his arms and turning off the light, he pressed his lips to Rodney's before they drifted off to sleep together.
