True to Peggy's word, they made it to England about 7 am in the morning, and soon after reuniting with Colonel Phillips and Erskine, they started their regime of drills and training for Phillips wanted them to stay in England for two months.
The first month went rather well, with the couple staying in shape, unknowing that their secret daughter has now developed up to 5 months, staying small yet enjoying the excitement of the drills her mother's going through, with now hearing her parents' voices at last when they are together for either conversation time or making love time.
Upon seeing that Peggy and Steve have done successfully for the first month, Phillips then decided to give the couple a 3-day weekend break as a reward, with commanding them to return back for the second month of drills.
Peggy immediately knew exactly what they would do with their pass as she wanted to finally have a chance to see her parents again after so long, and especially after her and Steve's change. Sure, they more than likely knew of it, thanks to the newsreels and such, but certainly seeing their daughter in a film reel was nothing compared to seeing her in person.
After the drills of the last day was done, it was evening, yet the stars and moon is out, with Peggy and Steve exiting the camp to take a night strolling trip as they wanted to get a good start, with Steve squeezing her hand, "It's gonna be okay. They will be quite surprised, but they love you, and heck, I'm nervous to meet them officially.", dressed in their casual clothes, leaving their war outfits and their training clothes in the camp at Tilbury Fort.
Peggy's parents are living in the countryside up northwest in Gloucester, with the reason that it's two escape routes by either going up north by land to Scotland or going west by sea or air to America in case if the war gets worse. That's what Peggy's father figures, anyway.
Peggy smiled lightly, "I'm nervous too...It has been ages since I saw them...Sure, letters and such over the past few years were nice, and then since the change, letters are more rare, due to the terrain over the land to Italy, or even overseas, if U-boats hadn't caught messenger boats and such...", with a sigh.
"I'm sure they know you're alright. If not from the news, then certainly from some government visits.", Steve pointed out. "I know... it's been rough losing my brother, Michael before. SOE, lost in a mission into the continent back in late 1940. I don't want them to worry about losing both of their children.", Peggy sighed as Steve smiled.
"It'll be alright once you see them, I promise you that.", Steve reassured her. Peggy leaned on his shoulder as they walked on, smiling softly, "Once again, your optimism comes in spades. As for you, they will grow to like and respect you. If you compliment Mum's cooking, she will adopt you immediately.", with a chuckle.
Steve laughed softly, "Well, I have a thing for home-cooked food, so that wouldn't be a problem...And for your dad?". Peggy shrugged, "He usually enjoys fly-fishing and listening to the music on the radio, but every year or so, he tries a new hobby. Mum said that it is a mid-life crisis thing. Last letter that Bucky read for me, Dad had decided to try out biking up the coastline.".
"Well, not really going to be able to bond with that then since we're both too big for bikes.", Steve rubbed the back of his neck.
Peggy chuckled, "True. Perhaps you could give him a new experience. I doubt he never thought of seeing art come to life.", and Steve blinked thoughtfully, "That would work.".
"You can do it. Just don't surprise him too much, okay?", Peggy asked warmly, and Steve kissed her cheek, "Yes, ma'am.", with a smile. They kept walking on for a few hours until they stopped for a rest and some intense love making time.
Steve had noted that the love making times has become more intense if still gentle occasionally, yet he saw that it made Peggy happy, so he obliged happily, unknowing that Peggy's pregnancy hormones has gotten her slightly more sex deprived.
Within the afternoon of their first day of break, they finally made it to Gloucester, with Peggy guiding Steve to her parents' home on the outskirts. Of course, their 50ft tall height is much more noticeable, for even before they made it, her parents were waiting outside on the porch.
"Either someone sent word, or they saw us coming from a mile away.", Steve joked. "It's a pretty good spot, great visibility from a distance.", Peggy replied with a smile.
Steve nodded, "I can see why your father prefers it.", with a smile as they slowly walked up, and Peggy chuckled before exhaling as she then kneels down, looking at her parents nervously, "Hi, Mum. Hello, Dad.".
Her mom, Amanda sobbed happily as she ran down the steps, "Maggie!", her version of a nickname for Margaret, with her dad, Harrison smiling proudly and warmly as he followed his wife down the steps, "Hello, Mag-peg.".
Peggy got herself as close to the ground as she could to allow her parents to embrace her as best as they could. Peggy was already starting to tear up at the moment at finally reuniting with them after so long.
Steve's eyes misted at the sight as he sat down, smiling tenderly, knowing how Peggy feels yet sad that he couldn't reunite with Sarah, his mother...But somehow, he knows that she's looking over him, and perhaps Peggy as well, for she might possibly know that Peggy is his beloved queen of his heart, his true love, his lover, and more...
"We honestly didn't believe about you when they first told us... after seeing you on the newsreels, of course.", Harrison chuckled. "Yeah, I thought I was done growing years ago... but, guess not.", Peggy joked.
Amanda smiled warmly, "You're just as beautiful as you were when you left for the army, just bigger and stronger.", caressing her entire cheek, and Harrison nodded, "That's right, and now you are fighting for something bigger than yourself, along with your paramour.", glancing at Steve.
Peggy blushed wildly, smiling, "He's my partner of war, Captain America, but to me personally, he's Steve Rogers, and he is my true love.", with a loving glance at Steve who gave her a warm smile, and Peggy gave him a gesture to get closer, with Steve nodding slightly as he got down on his chest, scooting forward.
"Hello, Mr. Carter and Mrs. Carter.", Steve inclined his head in a polite bow with a sincere look, mentally nervous. Steve cleared his throat there as he tried to compose himself. "Peggy has told me quite a bit about you two. Apologies that we really haven't said much in return; little hard to write personally these days.".
Peggy gently reached across the grass to rub over his hand reassuringly, smiling at him, and Steve smiled back at her, grateful to have her support, and replied, "Like Peggy said, I am her true love, though I call her my queen of my heart. If it wasn't for Peggy, I wouldn't even be here as a giant, though I must say it's advantageous to the war. Yet the war brought us together, and I love your daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Carter, with all my heart and soul.".
"Certainly can tell right now... and the newsreels certainly could see it a few times too.", Amanda chuckled as Peggy and Steve blushed. "But we're more than glad to hear that, Steve, how much you make our daughter happy.".
"I certainly try, ma'am.", Steve said with a shy, determined smile. "So, are you two here long?", Harrison asked.
"Weekend pass, Dad, just a few days then back to barracks.", Peggy explained. "At least you two aren't fighting when you leave... heard some rough stories from some of the wounded that came back. Italy was resembling Flanders according to them.", Harrison shook his head at the trauma he remembered that he went through in the trenches.
"Well, thanks to us and the combined armies of our forces, we're rushing up Italy now rather than stuck behind those defensive lines. I heard the New Zealanders and Polish divisions in the 8th Army liberated Rimini... just a day or so away from flooding into the Po Valley. Will be hard for the Germans and what's left of Mussolini's regime to stop that torrent.", Steve said.
Harrison smiled in relief, "Good, that's good to hear. Now, as the village clearly heard you coming, I suspect dinner will be shared around to make enough for both of you.", and Peggy grinned, "That's good to know. Soon, I will be very hungry from the long walk...Drills and all sure got us busy for the past month, so we had hungry stomachs almost all the time.".
Steve laughed heartily, "Let's say our CO is making sure that our parts of their plans for the war is perfect as possible.", and Harrison nodded, "I can see why.".
Amanda smiled warmly, "Time to bake and cook. I am sure I'll find something for you to help, Maggie.", and Peggy smiled, "Thanks, Mum. Steve, why don't you help Dad with fishing? The river's not far off.".
Steve smiled, "I'd be honored to help you, Mr. Carter. I can aid you with something you'd surely like to see.", and Harrison raised an eyebrow, "Well, now I am mighty curious to see. Alright, Steve, let's go fishing.", with a warm nod.
And so, the weekend went surprisingly well for Steve as he got to know Peggy's parents officially; aiding Harrison by making stone bears to catch fish side by side with Harrison fly-fishing and helping Amanda with shaking peach trees for her infamous peach cobblers while having deep conversations about everything and nothing of subject.
One such conversation couldn't leave his mind as he and Peggy are walking back during the third afternoon...It was the topic of marriage, and Harrison brought it up. Oh, sure, Steve has thought about it since Christmas, but now with Harrison bringing it up, it's more prominent in his mind than ever before.
"So how long has it been since you've known her, Steve?", Harrison asked. "Well, met her a few times prior to September but we've pretty much been inseparable since then.", Steve explained.
"I see... and... am I to guess that you and my young girl have...?", Harrison raised an eyebrow as Steve imminently knew what he was asking and froze up in fear for what might come next from Harrison's mouth.
Harrison spoke, "I see. Well, whatever has gotten you two to be giants, it must be ineffective in making my daughter pregnant for I haven't seen any clue of it all as it would have been so obvious. Pity...Peggy really wanted to be a mother...", with a sigh.
Steve froze in horror, "What?! But that can't be right?!", before widening his eyes as he accidently slipped, closing his mouth...He knew that he has been making love with Peggy since mid-November...He is literally a giant super-soldier...Is he still weak on the inside? He knew that it was impossible to make giant contraceptives for Peggy or him specifically...Gods...he failed Peggy...
"I'm sorry, sir... for a moment, I was thinking beforehand you were talking about Peggy and I even having intercourse... but...you're right.", Steve sighed as he turned his head.
"Oh.", Harrison said as he looked back to Steve. "Steve, it's alright, I understand how disappointed you must be about pregnancy; I can see it in your eyes. You're certainly not a failure for my daughter. I've never seen her so happy with another man before and there were a few suitors for a few years.".
Steve exhaled, "Thank you, sir...And yes, Peggy has told me a bit about that rebellious part of her life...And I love Peggy so much...even if it hurts her knowing that she couldn't get pregnant, I am not going to leave her...She deserves to be loved, to know that she isn't alone...I want to be part of her life forever, and if it means marrying her, to be her husband, I wouldn't even hesitate, sir.".
Harrison looks at him, "You're going to be at her side through the ups and downs, no matter what?", and Steve nods, "Yes, I will.", feeling 100% sure.
"Then I'd be glad to call you son, Steve. Will you talk with her about what I said?", Harrison replied, and Steve exhaled, "I wouldn't say anything unless it's really important, and perhaps it's best for her to hear it from me...And as for the proposal, I'd have to find the right moment...perhaps after the war...After all, she'd need stability first before I can even propose, you know?".
Harrison nodded in understanding, "Of course. And Steve, there's lots of ways to be meaningful without...being a father. I apologize for my words.", and Steve smiled softly, "There's no need to apologize, sir. And yes, I understand.".
"Good, and oh, call me Harrison from now on, son.", Harrison replied, and Steve nodded, with the conversation finished as they turned their attention on fishing.
While Steve and Harrison were having that conversation while fishing, Amanda and Peggy were having a similar one as Amanda was taking care of the dishes with Peggy right outside the window of the kitchen.
"Sorry I can't help with the dishes like I used to, Mum.", Peggy apologized. "It's alright, you have more important things to do these days than simple housework.", Amanda chuckled.
Peggy chuckled, "True. Fighting for justice and freedom in the war, using our powers for good.", with a smile, "We'll be sure to help bring the end of the war in due time. It will happen sooner or later. I just know it.".
"And after the war?", Amanda asked as Peggy had a somewhat pout to her face. "After... I'm not fully sure.", Peggy admitted. "Can't go back to before... Steve and I are permanent at this size.".
Amanda nodded, "You have been this way for months, so it's not temporary...And what about your life? Will you consider marriage?".
Peggy exhaled, "I have considered it, but I feel like it's too soon to ask him...through I know he'll be a great husband and father.", with a warm smile.
"Then you have been truly in relations with him...", Amanda said, and Peggy blushed wildly, "Yes...".
Amanda sighed heavily, "Well, I couldn't have stopped you there as you clearly have complied to it as you are an adult...Your father and I have talked, and as Steve make you truly happy, we're okay with it...I only wish I know how to help you...".
Peggy looked at her in confusion, "Help me? Mum, what are you talking about?", and Amanda looked at her straight on, "Your father has pointed out that if you have been doing it for a long time, it should have been obvious that you would be pregnant by now...".
It clicked for Peggy almost instantly as she looked down at herself. Her mother was right, with how much she and Steve had been doing it, she honestly should've been pregnant. But she wasn't...
"I don't... I don't...", Peggy started to tear up. "I don't know what has happened...", her voice cracking. "Peggy, listen to me, it's alright.", Amanda was trying to get a grip on things before Peggy would start to break.
Peggy looked at her mother in tears and surprise as it's almost rare that her mother calls her Peggy when she habitually calls her Maggie. Amanda exited the kitchen door, and laid a hand on her daughter's wrist, "It's not your fault nor Steve's. Whatever has made you two into giants, it must have focused on the outer look of you, not the inside, and I suspect the change was painful, correct?".
Peggy exhaled, "It was beyond agonizing...But Steve was there...with him, it was a bit less painful...", before sobbing as she laid her head down in the grass, "I really wanted to be a mother like you, Mum!".
"It's alright, Maggie...", Armada said before she put down her dish towel and quickly ran around to the outside so she could hug her daughter as best as she could. "It's alright... You have Steve, and you have us... and nothing but death will change that.".
Peggy can feel her mother hugging her around her cheek, and she shakily sobbed as she reached to touch her mother's back with a hand gently yet firmly in a sort of hug as well, "I love you, Mummy.".
Amanda shushed her, "I love you too, Peggy. You're not alone. If the things you've told me about Steve is right, he won't ever leave you, not for the loss of motherhood or anything else... He has been at your side, and he will always be at your side, and he will be devoted to you. Talk with him. And about marriage, that can wait when you're ready to accept, either from Steve, or either when you have a moment to propose to him.".
