Remembrance

She still remembers those last words.
The last three words he said to her, before he left.
Before they parted.

She still remembers how she kissed him, kissing him like a lover with all the time in the world.
Before the time ran out.

She still remembers the last hug he gave her, holding her as if he might never see her again.
Before she pulled away.

She still remembers the last time she caressed his cheek.
Before he moved on.

And he remembers too.

She touched him as if he was made of glass, as if he would shatter if she pushed too hard.
So he turned.

He held her like she was his lifeline, his last spark of hope in a cold, harsh world.
And she stopped.

She kissed him with a lover's passion, and a lover's tears.
Then it ended.

He whispered three words to her.

She remembered them forever.

I love you
