Code Lyoko: Breakdown

Chapter 2

Jeremy and Ulrich went into Math class and took their seats. Ms Hertz jotted down some notes and Jeremy copied them. Ulrich saw only gibberish but copied them as well. Ms Hertz set down papers and told the class that there was a pop quiz. Jeremy, being the smartest of the group, aced it with ease.

Yumi saw headlights in the distance and gasped as a chopper set down. Five scientists stepped out.

"We need to speak with Jeremy, it's urgent. Tell him Proteus has escaped"

Yumi was confused but ran to the factory to tell Ulrich and Odd. Jeremy was at his computer. He smiled and turned to the confused girl.

"I trust you've seen my visitors. Yes, I know all about the escaped Asset. You see, over the summer I came into contact with a group of scientists working for someone called Liandra. I investigated and found that this creature was capable of far worse things than XANA. It's killed a couple of students in the US. I warned them to lock down the portal, but this is a consequence of their idiocy, it's capable of asexual reproduction. All it needs is a viable host and a blood trail. I need to work on a method of quarantine"

The computer suddenly went ape shit and spewed out a recording:

"Any stations this net, this is the Forward Unto Dawn broadcasting in the blind. My team is dead and there's something here with us. Coordinate to follow. Again, we need help, send aid. UNSC forces are en route but have encounter heavy Covenant resistance. This message will repeat every five minutes"

Jeremy sat back in his chair stunned and confused. Could it be a trap? Could there be more beyond sector 5? Questions entered his mind but he had no time to think. Blood dripped from the ceiling. As he looked up, Jeremy saw the twisted bloody maw of Proteus. It leapt upon him, nearly tearing open his jugular. Jeremy kicked it off and fled into the elevator. As he neared the top floor, the creature appeared in front of him, tearing its way out of the vents and dropping onto the ground. As it opened it maw to eat Jeremy, Yumi grabbed it by the throat with enough force to leave holes and pulled outwards. All of its blood splattered onto her. She began screaming as her clothes began to melt. Her body began to sport welts and bruises before her flesh caught fire. She screamed in agony as her hands, feet and eyes exploded in a bloody geyser. Jeremy ran to the computer and initiated a RTTP. Yumi was rushed to the ER despite this, the RTTP having done nothing for her.

"3.2.1..CLEAR!"

The doctors pressed the Defibrillator to her chest. Her body jerked but her heart did not restart. The doctors recoiled when they saw the damage. Her heart, lungs and kidneys were all burnt through. She was breathing through a tube. Her heart rate was dangerously low but somehow she wasn't dead. Jeremy went over the event in his head and asked to do a test and was allowed back into Kadic. Being careful not to injure her, Jeremy put her in the scanner and ran a test.

"Hang on Yumi!" he exclaimed.

The scan revealed a acidic liquid, highly caustic in its raw form. The substance was equal parts sulfur mixed with some otherworldly poison. It could eat through metal. Yumi was only alive due to her body rejecting the contamination but even so, her body was a shell of itself. Yumi was dying and there was nothing Jeremy could do. Her skull cavity was burnt through and her eyes were dangling out of her skull. She vomited a stream of bile and became unresponsive.

"Aelita, Yumi needs treatment, I'm sending her into the Net. Get her to a tower. Ulrich, Odd and I are coming in as well. The situation here is grave. Do not come to earth. I'm going to put a call out to the UNSC, hopefully they can help"

Aelita started the virtualization process and Yumi was materialized into the Ice sector. She was nearly dead from her injuries. Aelita carried her and ran into the tower.

She woke up confused. "what am I doing in a way tower?" she asked Aelita.

"You nearly died from poison. On earth, your body is being prepped for burial. We have to get you into the net and into another one. I'll talk to Father. If you get killed here, you won't come back. Jeremy, send us to Sector 5"

Jeremy entered Scipio and the two were off. Yumi killed what monsters she could and managed to hit the button. Aelita found a possible fix for Yumi in a new area: Shadow Quadrant. It was unlike anything in Lyoko, functioning as a 3D cube but with only four sides, two of which were blank. It was impossible from a math point of view but logic and Mathematics had no place here. A space could be infinitely small and yet be too big to fit inside a mountain or incredibly large but too small to navigate. There were other issues as well. Damage was real and losing limbs was common. Death here meant death in real life. Aelita forced her way in and managed to download the fix for Yumi, sending it to Jeremy, who began repairing Yumi's body. He noticed tiny bots in the scanner and realized what was happening. He breathed a sigh of relief.

Suddenly the computer flashed a warning and the scanner opened. Yumi walked out, her body seemingly repaired with nano-machines. Pissed at the thing that attacked her, Yumi smashed a hole in the wall and went to kill Proteus. It fell upon her only to be ripped in half. Yumi heard stomping and turned around, her eyes a mix of fire and pure hatred. It was a T-Rex, bought back from the dead. Yumi yelled and shoved the Rebar into its eyes, blinding it. She then procured a knife and began to stab it to death, spilling its guts onto the ground. Fueled by blind rage, she went into a nearby Ammo store and bought an M60. More Rexes attacked her, only to go down in a hail of bullets. She was accosted by raptors and worse. After coming to terms with the sea of blood and sensing no other option, Liandra unleashed its most dangerous asset yet: Asset 33A.

The scientists were cut to pieces when this thing made landfall. It was Massive, easily dwarfing the Kollosus in scale and rivaling Godzilla in sheer power. Yumi riddled it with holes but despite the massive blood loss, the creature would not die. Yumi finally ran out of ammo and retreated into the net. Tanks arrived and began to pepper it with shells to no avail. Buildings were smashed to pieces, cars were totaled and the streets were wet with the blood of the dead, many of them children and parents. Kadic was in emergency lockdown as bombers and artillery attempted without success to stop the mammoth creature from getting further. Finally they nuked it. It did absolutely nothing.

Odd and Ulrich escaped into Lyoko and Jeremy set the computer to scan. He also locked the computer down and shut down the Elevator. Seeing that everything was safe, he set the scanner up and was sent to Lyoko. The scanners shut off for the final time.
